We can pray that they are happy and are at one with God, and hope that is so. What we can also do is be there for them when they are alive. We all have imperfect human lives, in both physical and spiritual senses. That means our lives are not as fully free or human as they could be. When Jesus gets to his friend, Lazarus is already dead and buried. Jesus brings him back to life. We will all have friends who will die. We may be desperate to do for them what Jesus did for Lazarus, but our prayers may not be granted in the manner we would like. We can pray that they are happy and are at one with God, and hope that is so. What we can also do is be there for them when they are alive. We all have imperfect

human lives, in both physical and spiritual senses. That means our lives are not as fully free or human as they could be. If we have friends who help heal those imperfections and if we do the same for them, then everybody concerned has a fuller human life closer to what God intended.’ Fr David McLean

SPECIAL INFORMATION AND WIDER COMMUNITY EVENTS

NEW WEEKDAY MASS TIMES: Please note new WEEKDAY Mass times on front of Bulletin.

TUESDAY 8th APRIL MORNING MASS: Year 5 children from St Brigid’s will be attending Mass at 9.15 am with Reconciliation afterwards. Parishioners are welcome to “sleep in” and come to that Mass instead of 8.00am.

RITE OF ENROLMENT COMMITMENT MASS: Children will make a commitment to the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Holy Communion and Confirmation this weekend (April 5th and 6th) during Mass. Please pray for these children as they make commitment to their preparation for receiving the Sacraments.

MARRIAGE BLESSING: Congratulations to all those celebrating their Wedding Anniversaries this month. Please stand up when requested if you are here in this Mass, and we will give you a blessing.

POT-LUCK DINNER CANCELLED: There WILL NOT be potluck dinner at the Parish Centre this month due to the Fete being held on the first Saturday (this weekend). MORNING TEA: There is a special Morning Tea in the Parish Centre this Sunday 6th after the 9.30am Mass to celebrate the Commitment Mass. Everyone is welcome!

CARITAS: We are now more than half way through Lent. How are you going with your Project Compassion collections? There are still some boxes and envelopes available for you on the table at the back of the church. The Pope said recently: “It is not Charity unless it hurts to give.” Maybe it is time to give a little extra for those who have so very little. CHRISM MASS: The Annual Chrism Mass will be concelebrated in the Cathedral on Tuesday 15th April 2014 at 7pm by Archbishop Costelloe and the priests of the Archdiocese. Parishioners are invited to attend this Mass where all the Holy Oils are consecrated for the year, Priests renew their ordination vows and the Laity is invited to renew their commitment to holiness of live and service. See Flyer on pin-up board.

THE RECORD: Dear Parishioners—please note that our Catholic paper is not a free publication. Sadly, our Parish is not in a financial position to subsidise free copies. ELECTRICITY: Just something to keep in mind. What did your current household electricity bill come in as? Wow! Your Parish’s last Synergy bill amounted to $1229.85. For the Parish Centre alone the consumption charge came in at $544.70! Let us all try to become better stewards of our resources. RECENT DEATHS: Antonina Conti and Antonino Radice. Please pray for them. Grant them eternal rest and perpetual light.. EASTER ROSTER: If you would like to participate in the Liturgy of Easter on the various days in Holy Week please write your name down on the Easter Roster sheet at the back of the church. Your volunteered time and service will be very much appreciated. WALK FOR JUSTICE for Refugees—Palm Sunday: Carad (Compassion in Action) will begin the walk from the grounds of St George’s Cathedral, St Georg’es Terrace Perth at 1pm 13th April 2014. EASTER CUPCAKE HOLIDAY ACTIVITY: On Tuesday 15th April for children 5 years and over at the Parish Hall. Please contact Eleanor on 0433 392912 or email [email protected] for more information. Cake Decorating Classes also available for adults.

THANK YOU: I would like to thank the many parishioners that helped me celebrate my birthday last week. A special thanks go to the members of St Vincent de Paul. Matt Bruekers. THANK YOU to the mini-fete organisers, stall holders and contributors. Great job!! Thank you also for recent events where the usual willing helpers put themselves to work in setting up and washing up in the kitchen. We DO notice your selflessness and your work. Thank you very much. Your Bible Questions Answered: “It’s always a bit awkward when Father reads that Gospel passage about calling no-one on earth your father (Matt 23:9). How can we justify calling priests ‘Father,’ given what Jesus said?” For the answer, or to ask your own Bible question visit www.thebiblicalfoundation.org.au You can also like us on Facebook! READINGS FOR THIS SUNDAY

Next Week’s Readings: Palm Sunday of Lent Entrance: Matthew 21:1-11 First Reading : Isaiah 50:4-7 Second Reading: Philippians 2:6-11 Gospel: Matthew 26:14 –27: 66

When Martha heard that Jesus had come she went to meet him. Mary remained sitting in the house. Martha said to Jesus, ‘If you had been here, my brother would not have died, but I know that even now, whatever you ask of God, he will grant you.’ ‘Your brother’ said Jesus to her ‘will rise again.’ Martha said, ‘I know he will rise again at the resurrection on the last day.’ Jesus said: ‘I am the resurrection and the life. If anyone believes in me, even though he dies he will live, and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?’ ‘Yes, Lord,’ she said ‘I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, the one who was to come into this world.’ Jesus said in great distress, with a sigh that came straight from the heart, ‘Where have you put him?’ They said, ‘See how much he loved him!’ But there were some who remarked, ‘He opened the eyes of the blind man, could he not have prevented this man’s death?’ Still sighing, Jesus reached the tomb: it was a cave with a stone to close the opening. Jesus said, ‘Take the stone away.’ Martha said to him, ‘Lord, by now he will smell; this is the fourth day.’ Jesus replied, ‘Have I not told you that if you believe you will see the glory of God?’ So they took away the stone. Then Jesus lifted up his eyes and said: ‘Father, I thank you for hearing my prayer. I knew indeed that you always hear me, but I speak for the sake of all these who stand round me, so that they may believe it was you who sent me.’ When he had said this, he cried in a loud voice, ‘Lazarus, here! Come out!’ The dead man came out, his feet and hands bound with bands of stuff and a cloth round his face. Jesus said to them, ‘Unbind him, let him go free.’ Many of the Jews who had come to visit Mary and had seen what he did believed in him.

First Reading Ezekial 37:12-14 I shall put my spirit in you, and you will live. The Lord says this: I am now going to open your graves; I mean to raise you from your graves, my people, and lead you back to the soil of Israel. And you will know that I am the Lord, when I open your graves and raise you from your graves, my people. And I shall put my spirit in you, and you will live, and I shall resettle you on your own soil; and you will know that I, the Lord, have said and done this – it is the Lord who speaks. Responsorial Psalm Psalm129. R. v.7 (R.) With the Lord there is mercy and fullness of redemption 1. Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord, Lord, hear my voice! O let your ears be attentive to the voice of my pleading. (R.) 2. If you, O Lord, should mark our guilt, Lord, who would survive? But with you is found forgiveness: for this we revere you. (R.) 3. My soul is waiting for the Lord, I count on his word. My soul is longing for the Lord more than watchman for daybreak. (Let the watchman count on daybreak and Israel on the Lord.) (R.) 4. Because with the Lord there is mercy and fullness of redemption, Israel indeed he will redeem from all its iniquity. (R.) Second Reading Romans 8:8-11 If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, then he will give life to your own mortal bodies. People who are interested only in unspiritual things can never be pleasing to God. Your interests, however, are not in the unspiritual, but in the spiritual, since the Spirit of God has made his home in you. In fact, unless you possessed the Spirit of Christ you would not belong to him. Though your body may be dead it is because of sin, but if Christ is in you then your spirit is life itself because you have been justified; and if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, then he who raised Jesus from the dead will give life to your own mortal bodies through his Spirit living in you. Gospel Acclamation John 11:25. 26 Glory and praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ! I am the resurrection and the life, says the Lord; whoever believes in me will not die for ever. Glory and praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ! Gospel John 11:3-7, 17, 20-27, 33-45 I am the resurrection and the life. The sisters Martha and Mary sent this message to Jesus, ‘Lord, the man you love is ill.’ On receiving the message, Jesus said, ‘This sickness will end not in death but in God’s glory, and through it the Son of God will be glorified.’ Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus, yet when he heard that Lazarus was ill he stayed where he was for two more days before saying to the disciples, ‘Let us go to Judaea.’ On arriving, Jesus found that Lazarus had been in the tomb for four days already.
