This becomes a challenging task as long overdue degradation issues vary in dierent types of components (i.e. pressurized, non-pressurized and structural facilities), arising from in-service fatigue, corrosion/ero-sion, stress corrosion cracking and even direct exposure to tropical marine environment and UV radiation attacks.

In response to this challenge, IMM Miri Regional Chapter is organising the 5th Regional Materials Technology Conference(5thRMTC) in Miri as a platform for the sharing of experience and knowledge relating to issues in materials & corrosion, welding technology, inspection and asset integrity in the eort to sustain these aging facilities and to enable safe production environment for our future generations.

Many Oil & Gas operators in the country have onshore reneries and oshore platform facilities that have been in service for several years and operated continually beyond their original design life. Operators may be required to continue operating these aging assets contractually for another 30 years or beyond.
