5tone Signalling Standard 5-tone Standard You can select the type of 5tone format. After you configure the System Parameters, select the type of 5tone format for signalling encoding/decoding. Receive Gap PeriodYou can program the required silent (no-tone) time of decoding the tone after the last

valid tone has been received. The recommended value for the receive gap period is 1.5 times the duration of the tone. For example, 150 ms for CCIR 100 ms tone.

If you select "Tone" in the 5tone Standard menu, the program automatically sets the ideal value for the Receive Gap Period.

Range: 0 to 1275 mseconds (in steps of 5 ms)Default: "Period" X 1.5 times

Monitor FunctionThis function is available only when you select Feature Level = FULL in the 5tone

menu.You can program either QT/DQT or 5tone decoding to be canceled when the [Monitor]

or [Monitor Momentary] key is pressed.When the Monitor function is activated, the "MON" icon appears.

QT/DQT: Cancels the decoding in the Channel Information - QT/DQT Decode menu. The squelch is controlled by the signal carrier only.

5tone: Cancels the decoding in the 5tone - Encode/Decode Code Table - Decode - Compare Decode Type menu. The squelch is controlled by QT/DQT in "Channel Information - QT/DQT Decode" menu only. If the QT/DQT code is programmed in "Channel Information - QT/DQT Decode" menu, incoming signal must match the QT/DQT code to open the squelch.

Monitor Key ActionThis function is available only when you select Feature Level = FULL in the 5tone

menu. You can program the function of the [Monitor] key when it is pressed. Disable: No function Open: Every time the [Monitor] key is pressed, it activates (opens) the function in the

"Monitor Function" menu. Close: Every time the [Monitor] key is pressed, it deactivates (closes) the function in the

"Monitor Function" menu. Open/Close (Both): Every time the [Monitor] key is pressed, it toggles (opens and closes)

the function in the "Monitor Function" menu.Default: Open/Close (Both)Note: This "Monitor Key Action" is not applied to the [Monitor Momentary] menu.

Digit Entry MethodThis function is available only when you select Feature Level = FULL in the 5tone

menu. Receive, Selcall or Status Digit appears when you enter their entry mode, pressing the [Receive Entry], [Selcall Entry] or [Status Entry] key, or "Keypad Operation" is programmed to "Selcall Entry" or "Status Entry" and you press the [0] - [9] key.

You can select the operation of the function. Or the digit number when entering their entry mode appears. Overwrite: The new digit number will overwrite the previous digit when entering entry

mode. Replace: The new digit number will overwrite the digit that is programmed in the RX

Address or TX Address menu when entering entry mode.Default: ReplaceNote: There are 2 methods of displaying their digit.

1. Press the [Receive Entry], [Selcall Entry] or [Status Entry] key or select "Selcall Entry" or "Status Entry" in "Keypad Operation".2. Check "Selcall Digit Display" and configure it to display their digit when the channel is changed.

Busy Channel Lockout (System Parameters)You can inhibit the transmission while the channel is busy. You can program the

following different conditions. Disable: Do not use Busy Channel Lockout. Lockout 1: Do not transmit when the transceiver is receiving the carrier. Transmit when the

transceiver is not receiving the carrier. Lockout 2: Do not transmit when the transceiver is receiving the carrier and the QT/DQT

code does not match. Transmit when the transceiver is not receiving the carrier or a matching QT/DQT code.

Default: Disable

Group ToneThis function is available only when you select Feature Level = FULL in the 5tone

menu. You can select Group Tone Code 0 - 9, A - E.Default: A

Repeat ToneThis function is available only when you select Feature Level = FULL in the 5tone

menu. You can select the Repeat Tone Code 0 - 9, A - E.Default: E

Decode Single Tone FrequencyThis function is available only when you select Feature Level = FULL in the 5tone

menu. Set the Single Tone frequency that the transceiver will stand-by as Option Signalling.The 5tone - Encode/Decode Code Table - Decode - Compare Decode Type parameter

will be available when Single Tone is set as Option Signalling.For example, the transceiver can open or close the monitor function according to this

Single Tone.Range: 300 - 3000 Hz (in steps of 1Hz)Default: 2135 Hz.

Decode Single Tone Duration This function is available only when you select Feature Level = FULL in the 5tone

menu. Set the tone length of the Single Tone that the transceiver will stand-by as Option Signalling.

The 5tone - Encode/Decode Code Table - Decode - Compare Decode Type parameter will available when Single Tone is set as Option Signalling.

For example, the transceiver can open or close the monitor function by according this Single Tone.

Range: 60 - 6000 mseconds (in steps of 10ms)Default: 5000 mseconds.

Selectable Receive DigitSelect the check box to change the Receive Code (maximum 8 digits) manually when

receiving Decode Code. You cannot select Selectable Receive Digit, Store Selcall Digit and Store Status Digit at the same time.

For example, the transceiver receives the 5tone code, #59401 when you have the 4th and 5th digits checked in the Selectable Receive Digit menu. In this case, #01 is stored as Receive Code.

Press the [Receive Entry] key to enter Receive Entry mode. When you enter Receive Entry Mode, you can change the Receive Code, #01. You can receive the Receive Code after the modification.

Store Selcall DigitThis function is available only when you select Feature Level = FULL in the 5tone

menu. Select the check box to store the Selcall Digit (maximum, 8 digits) when 5tone signalling is received. You cannot select Selectable Receive Digit, Store Selcall Digit and Store Status Digit at the same time.

For example, the transceiver receives the 5tone code, #59401 when you have the 1st, 2nd and 3rd digits checked in the Store Selcall Digit menu. In this case, #594 is stored as Selcall.

If you selected "Selcall/Status List" in the 5tone - Encode/Decode Code Table - Decode - Display menu, the transceiver searches for the code, #594, in the Selcall List to display the 5tone - Selcall/Status List - Selcall Message. If the relative code is not in the Selcall List, the transceiver displays the received code on the LCD.

If you store Selcall Digit and Status Digit at the same time, press the [6] or [D] key to toggle Status (Message) and Selcall (Message) display.

Store Status DigitThis function is available only when you select Feature Level = FULL in the 5tone

menu. Select the check box to store the Status Digit (maximum 8 digits) when 5tone signalling is received. You cannot select Selectable Receive Digit, Store Selcall Digit and Store Status Digit at the same time.

For example, the transceiver receives the 5tone code, #59401 when you have the 4th and 5th digits checked in the Store Status Digit menu. In this case, #01 is stored as Status.

Press the [Selcall Entry] key or "Keypad Operation" to enter Status Entry mode. When you enter Status Entry Mode, you can change the Status Code, #67. You can transmit the Status code after the modification.

Automatic CloseThis function is available only when you select Feature Level = FULL in the 5tone

menu.It compares the selected digits of the RX Address code in the Channel menu when the

Auto ResetYou can program the permit or inhibit status of the Auto Reset Timer to every System

Parameter.When the squelch unmutes while receiving a signal or the [Monitor] key is pressed,

Auto Reset Timer in the "5tone - Encode/Decode Code Table" menu starts the countdown. When the counter reaches 0, the squelch mutes. Check: Permit Auto Reset Timer countdown. Uncheck: Inhibit Auto Reset Timer countdown.

Default: Check

Selcall Digit Display Select the display information when the channel is changed or the transceiver is turned

on.If Enhanced Display is not selected:

Check: Displays the Selcall Digit Uncheck: Displays the Channel Name

If Enhanced Display is selected: Check: Displays the Channel Name and Selcall Digit. In this case, the Channel Name

display may be shorted to allow space for the entire Selcall Digit.

Uncheck: Displays the Channel Name.Default: Uncheck.Note: There are 2 methods of displaying the Selcall Digit.

1. Press the [Selcall Entry] key or select "Selcall Entry" in Keypad Operation.2. Check "Selcall Digit Display" and configure it to display the Selcall Digit when the channel is changed.

Radio firmware versions 1.03 and earlier do not support the Enhanced Display.

Group Digit SelectablePress the [Selcall Entry] key to enter Selcall Entry mode. You can program whether

the Group Digit can be selected or not in the Selcall Entry mode. Check: Check Group Digit input. Uncheck: Disable Group Digit input.

Default: UncheckNote1: You can program the Group Digit Code in the System Parameters - Group

Tone menu.Note2: Refer to the [Selcall Entry] section for details.

Copy from TX/RX AddressThis function is available only when you select Feature Level = FULL in the 5tone

menu.The Receive Digit is programmed in the Channel Information - RX Address menu.The Selcall/Status Digit is programmed in the Channel Information - TX Address menu.You can select to copy the digit to the memory when you change the channel, using

the [Channel Up], [Channel Down] (Mobile), or [Selector] (Portable) key. The memory represents the code that is displayed by the keypad. Or Key Buffer, "^K1 ... ^K8" used by Encode Format. Check: The Receive Digit in "Channel Information - RX Address" is copied when the

channel is changed. Selcall/Status Digit in "Channel Information - TX Address" is copied when the channel is changed.

Uncheck: The Receive Digit in "Channel Information - RX Address" is NOT copied when the channel is changed. Selcall/Status Digit in "Channel Information - TX Address" is NOT copied when the channel is changed.

Default: Uncheck.Note: There are 2 methods of displaying their digit.

Default: 1.Note 1: The target 5tone code is in the 5tone - Encode/Decode Code Table - Decode -

Compare Decode Type menu.Note 2: This function is not available when the transceiver is set to Feature

Level=BASIC.Note 3: When "Special Setting" is checked (enabled) and you are using Decode

Format, this parameter is not valid.

MonitorSelect the Monitor operation when the expected 5tone is received. You can select

Monitor operation in the 5tone - System Parameters - Monitor Function menu. You can also select "5tone" or "QT/DQT" in the "Monitor Function" menu. When the 5tone matches, it opens/closes one of the above signalling. Open: Unmutes the squelch and the [MON] icon lights. Open (Blink): Unmutes the squelch and the [MON] icon blinks. Close: Mute the squelch and [MON] icon goes off. Disable: No function.

Default: Open.Note 1: The target 5tone code is in the 5tone - Encode/Decode Code Table - Decode -

Compare Decode Type menu.Note 2: This function is not available when the transceiver is set to Feature

Level=BASIC.Note 3: When "Special Setting" is checked (enabled) and you are using Decode

Selectable Call Alert LED(5tone)Select the LED status when the expected 5tone is received.

Blink: Call LED (Orange) blinks. Clear: Call LED (Orange) is turned off. Disable: Do not change the LED status.

Default: BlinkNote 1: The target 5tone code is in the 5tone - Encode/Decode Code Table - Decode -

Compare Decode Type menu.Note 2: This function is not available when the transceiver is set to Feature

Level=BASIC.Note 3: When "Special Setting" is checked (enabled) and you are using Decode

Transpond CodeSelect to transmit the Transpond Code when the expected 5tone code is received.

When 5tone - Encode/Decode Code Table - Decode - Transpond is selected: Transmit the Transpond Code every time the expected 5tone code is received. When 5tone - Encode/Decode Code Table - Decode - Transfer is checked: Transmit the selected Transpond Code while the [Transfer] key is pressed.1 - 24: Transmit the selected Encode Code.Disable: Do not transmit the Transpond Code.

Default: Disable.Note 1: The target 5tone code is in the 5tone - Encode/Decode Code Table - Decode -

Compare Decode Type menu.Note 2: When "Transpond Code" is disabled, 5tone - Encode/Decode Code Table -

Decode - Transfer cannot be set.Note 3: If "5tone - Encode/Decode Code Table - Decode - Clear to Transpond" is

enabled, the transceiver waits for the transmission until the channel becomes open.Note 4: When "Special Setting" is checked (enabled) and you are using Decode

Horn AlertWhen the target 5tone code is received, you can activate the Horn Alert function. The

duration of Alert and Logic State can be configured in the "Optional Features" menu. Horn Alert is activated when the [Horn Alert] key is depressed and the target 5tone is received. The hardware modification may be required to work. Refer to the service manual for details.Check: Activate Horn Alert when the target 5tone code is received.Uncheck: Do not activate Horn Alert

First Digit ExtendedYou can change the duration of the first digit of the specified Encode Code.

The duration can be programmed in the 5tone - Encode/Decode Code Table - Encode - First Digit Length menu.Check: Transmit longer than is specified in "First Digit Length". Actual length of time for the 1st Digit is "Period" + "First Digit Length".Uncheck: Do not change the length of time. Transmit the code specified in "Period".

Default: Uncheck.Note: When "Special Setting" is checked (enabled) and you are using Decode Format,

this parameter is not valid.

Decode Options

Special Setting(Decode)You can select how to decode the 5tone code. When “Special Setting” is not checked

(disabled), you can select the Decode Code setting from #1 to #8 in the 5tone - Encode/Decode Decode menu.

The transceiver tries to decode the checked Decode Code setting at the same time.In this way, you can have a maximum of 8 different decode tone settings. When "Special Setting" is checked (enabled), you can select the Decode Format setting from #1 to #32 in the 5tone - Encode/Decode Format menu. Check: You can select the Decode Format name, configured in Decode Format menu. Uncheck: You can select Decode Code.

Default: Uncheck.

Special Setting(Decode)When “Special Setting” is not checked (disabled), you can select the Decode Code

setting from #1 to #8 in the 5tone - Encode/Decode Decode menu.The transceiver tries to decode the checked Decode Code setting (maximum of 8

different settings) at the same time. When the code matches in the "5tone Code" menu, the transceiver operates as programmed in the "Decode Code" menu.

Decode Format(Decode) When "Special Setting" is checked (enabled), you can select the Decode Format

setting from #1 to #32 in the 5tone - Encode/Decode Format menu. When the code matches in the "Decode Format" menu, the transceiver operates as programmed in the "Decode Format" menu. Decode Format name: Decode Format number 1 - 32. None: No function.

PTT Press Options

Special Setting(PTT Press) You can choose the code to encode when PTT is pressed.When “Special Setting” is not checked (disabled), you can select the Encode Code

from #1 to #24 in the 5tone - Encode/Decode Encode menu.When "Special Setting" is checked (enabled), you can select the Encode Format from

#1 to #32 in the 5tone - Encode/Decode Format menu. Check: You can select the Encode Format name programmed in Encode Format menu. Uncheck: You can select Encode Code.

Default: Uncheck

Monitor (PTT Press)Select to unmute the squelch when the [PTT] key is pressed.

Open: Unmutes the squelch when the [PTT] key is pressed. Disable: Do not unmute the squelch when [PTT] key is pressed.

Default: Disable

Encode Code (PTT Press)Select the Encode Code to transmit when the [PTT] key is pressed. You can select up

to 3 codes to transmit the 3-frame 5tone code. The Encode Code is transmitted from Left to right. 24 different Encode Codes are available for the 5tone - Encode/Decode Encode menu. 1 - 24: Encode as a programmed number. None: Do not encode

Encode Format (PTT Press)Select Encode Format name when the [PTT] key is pressed. You can select the

Encode Format from #1 to #32 in the 5tone - Encode/Decode Format menu. Encode Format name: Encode the code number. None: No function.

Default: None.

Number of Passes3-frame 5tone, programmed in the “PTT Press” menu, is transmitted when [PTT] is

pressed. You can also program the number of times to repeat transmitting. Infinite: Never ends 1 to 255: The number of times to repeat the transmission.

Default: Infinite.Note: When "Special Setting" is checked (enabled), you cannot program this

parameter.

Interval Time (PTT Press)You can program the interval time between the transmission when you enabled the

Number of Passes function.Range: 0 - 255 seconds (in steps of 1 sec.)Default: 3 seconds.

PTT Release Options

Special Setting (PTT Release) You can choose the code to encode when the [PTT] key is released. When "Special

Setting" is not checked (disabled), you can select the Encode Code from #1 to #24 in the 5tone - Encode/Decode Encode menu. When "Special Setting" is checked (enabled), you can select the Encode Format from #1 to #32 in the 5tone - Encode/Decode Format menu.Check: You can select the Encode Format name programmed in Encode Format menu.Uncheck: You can select Encode Code.

Default: Uncheck.

Special Setting(Call1-6) Press the [Call 1-6] key to select which Encode Code to transmit. When “Special

Setting” is not checked (disabled), you can select the Encode Code setting from #1 to #24 in the 5tone - Encode/Decode Encode menu.

When "Special Setting" is checked (enabled), you can select the Encode Format setting from #1 to #32 in the 5tone - Encode/Decode Format menu. Check: You can select the Encode Format name programmed in Encode Format menu. Uncheck: Select Encode Code.

Default: Uncheck

MonitorSelect to unmute the squelch when the [Call 1-6] key is pressed.

Open: Unmutes the squelch when the [Call 1-6] key is pressed. Disable: Do not unmute the squelch when the [Call 1-6] key is pressed.

Default: Disable.

The checked digit, "5", "9", "4" is stored as Selcall code. If 5tone - Encode/Decode Code Table - Decode - Display is set to "Selcall/Status List", the transceiver searches for the stored code, #594 for Selcall List in "5tone - Selcall/Status List" to display the message (Blinking). If no message is programmed in "5tone - Selcall/Status List", the blinking code number, itself, is displayed.

Encode/Decode Format

Encode FormatYou can use the Encode Format script function when you select Feature Level=FULL

and "Special Setting"=Check. In order to write the Encode Format script, you need technical

knowledge of 5tone signalling functions. Of course, you can write the script to perform all the functions that you can do with "Feature Level"=BASIC and FULL and "Special Setting" = Uncheck. (Menu driven method)

In addition, you can write the original script to control various functions and signalling timing.

Refer to each function of Encode Format Code for details. Sample scripts are also available. You can create 32 different types of Encode Formats. You can assign a name up to 12 characters for each Encode Format.- Press the [Add] or [F9] key to create a new Encode Format.- Press the [Delete] key or [SHIFT] + [F9] key to erase the Encode Format displayed on the LCD.- Press the [Rename] or [F6] key to change the name of the Encode Format.- Press the [Next] or [F7] key to display the next Encode Format name.- Press the [Prev] or [F8] key to display the previous Encode Format name.- Press the [List] or [F2] key to display the list of Encode Format names.- Press the [Compile] or [F10] key to check the error(s) in the Encode Formats you created.

ALERT numSounds the Alert tone number. You can select one of 8 different Alert Tones in the

BKTONSends a Background Tone while transmitting. The tone frequency is approximately

1630Hz. BLTOFTurns off the display backlight. This can be used in Emergency Mode to pretend that

CLOSEClose the Selcall Mute state (Reset Selcall Mute). The next instruction is executed

CTTPActivate when the transceiver is in the Clear to Transpond state. The transceiver does

not send an Ack signal when the signal is received on the channel. DEL xtimeWait for the programmed time before executing the Encode Sequence. DEL

represents the "Delay". DIFIXFreezes the displayed items on the LCD and the transceiver enters Emergency Mode.

In Emergency Mode, the transceiver repeats the Encode and Decode operation in the Selcall menu. The speaker is muted. Entry Mode, Channel Entry Mode, and Queue Entry Mode. non-operatable. "ERROR" appears on the LCD. To revive the transceiver, it must be reprogrammed by the FPU. RSMS stimeThe transceiver stops the Encode sequence and waits the duration of "stime". The

RSTUNWhen "RSTUN" is executed, the transceiver changes to the Remote Stun state.

Unless the transceiver receives the Revive Code or new programming data is written by the FPU, it becomes non-operational. "LOCK 2" appears on the LCD. The Remote Stun status is backed up. TPDDeactivates the transparency mode that is activated with TPE.

TPEEnables the transfer of a large packet of data using selective call tones, without

causing other units to be called because of matching sequences. When the transparency mode is activated by TPE, a D-digit will be inserted after every four transmitted digits, which will prevent other units from being called. After this function has turned the power Off, use the power switch to operate the transceiver again. Program the parameter in the Timed Power Off Encode format (System Parameters/ 5tone). REPOFYou can repeat the command using the REP command in the Encode Format menu.

When the "REP" is active and the sequence matches, this command stops the "REP" operation. It is used with the Encode/Decode Format when an Acknowledgement Message is necessary (Like the Emergency Call).<Example>Encode format: REP 10 TXS DEL 100 TSET EEA LEN 40 SEND #59499 DEL 50 RX RACK 2500 DecAck RSML 5DekAck: CMP #54321 REPOF BEEP 16 MONF<Operation>Wait 100 mseconds after the transmission is activated, then transmit the EEA tone #59499. Each tone duration is 40 mseconds. After you finish sending tone #59499, the transceiver waits for 50 mseconds before it returns to receive mode. It then waits for an ACK signal. The transceiver waits for receiving #54321 within 2500 mseconds from the end of the transmission. If it does not receive the code within that time period, it re-transmits #59499, 5 seconds after the previous transmission. The transceiver repeats the above operation up to 10 times. If the transceiver receives #54321 within 2500 mseconds after the transmission, it stops the repeat operation. Beep 16 sounds and the squelch unmutes.

This Remote Stun function is used for security purposes when a transceiver is stolen or lost.
