LDawnLewis: A man named Hans Riegel invented gummy bears during the 1920's. The candymaker was the owner of the German Haribo candy company, who produced the first American gummy candies in 1982. Gummy bears are made mostly of edible gelatin.
Information about the inventor of gummy bears.
The inventor of the gummy bear is Johannes Peter Hans Riegel who was born in Bonn, Germany. His father Hans Riegel Sr. started Haribo Golden company in 1920 and started producing gummy bears or more commonly known in Germany as Gummibar at the same time. In 1922, he invented the Dancing Bear candy, which was a long lasting gum in the shape of a bear. Hans went to school in a boarding school called Aloisiuskolleg with straight A scores. He graduated in the Bonn University and did his doctorate there. Hans inherited the company when his father died. He is skilled at a German sport called badminton and was elected first president by the badminton association. Badminton is a two player racquet sport somewhat like tennis. Hans was a prisoner of war in the second World War. Hans is currently 86 years old and healthy, and he is also the 87th richest man in th world, owning a 1.7 billian dollar estate.
