BAA BAA Announcements
Hello Goblins and Ghouls!
The Chapter A Halloween Party is coming up very quickly. This is a potluck and I really would appreciate everyone to
reply to me at [email protected] and let me know what you are looking to bring for dinner. The Chapter will not be
providing the main dish this year.
Hope you are planning to attend for lots of laughs and food. Rumor is Randy has a 'game' for everyone. That could be,
well, um, fun!
Thank you so much for letting me know. If you do not want to email, you can call or text to my cell 515-979-4248
Thank you and be ready to have fun October 28th Planning to eat at 6!
We will need people to help decorate during the afternoon of October 29th, and a clean up crew after the party. Let us
know if you want to help on the decorations, Diane Tingle has volunteered her Halloween decorations again, but we
have to get them put up. We will have a time soon. Thanks
Christmas Party
I know, we have not had Halloween and I am talking about Christmas Party. Want you to know, the Christmas Party
date has been moved to December 2, 2017, and at the same building in Carlisle, flyer will be out soon. Christmas Party
will be a potluck, and we want to do the 'Dirty Bingo' like we did last year. It would be awesome if you could round up a
couple things, white elephant type things or something nice, whatever you might find. We are not wanting people to go
out and buy anything. This can be food (hey you great cooks - cookies, cakes or???) motorcycle parts, hey even a car
part, lol. This is just to have fun with. You can bring them, or get them to us and we will wrap them. You can be creative
in your wrapping. Just keep your eyes out for more information and mark your calendar. We will need decorations, and if
you want them back, please let us know, other wise we might make something with what you have. Thank you!

Chapter Individual of the year
Congratulations
Tim Pherigo
I would like to take this time to say "Thank You" to the Black Sheep for giving me the honor of being the
Individual of the Year for Chapter A. Since 1982 GWRRA has been a big part of my life. It is with great
pride that I have the chance to represent our great chapter and the wonderful people in it as your IOY for
2017. I will do my best to fill the expectations that go with this honor. Again, thank you all for the honor
you have imposed on me.

Chapter Shepherds
Well here we are November. I have noticed as I get older the time seems to fly by. We need to take a quick minute and send
our condolences to all of our chapter members who have lost a family member, there have been several in the past few
months. Deb and I would also like to say thank you to all of our members who are veterans. Thank you for your service and
sacrifice. Saturday Nov.11th, we are having a veterans thanksgiving dinner. Details to follow soon.
We have new District Directors, let`s welcome John and Yvette Moravec. They have announced a few things for next year.
The Crazy Supper will be returning. Deb and I went to this, what a fun time it is. Also next years District Rally will be in Fort
Dodge. Stay tuned for more info on these and other events coming up for the District. I think John and Yvette will do a great
job for the Iowa chapters.
Wing Ding will be in Knoxville Tenn. next year. Deb and I plan to go to this Wing Ding. If you are planning on going, start
making your motel reservations now, 2 motels have already filled up.
Don`t forget to look for the lost Black Sheep. It has not been found in a couple of months. Don`t forget our progressive
drawing is up to $70.00 and you MUST be present to win. Just think you might get paid for coming to chapter gathering. We
will have suggestion box set up at the next gathering. We are looking for new ideas for dinner rides, things to see, places to
go, chapter challenge, etc. We may not get to use all ideas, but all suggestions are welcome.
From Deb and myself we would like to wish you and your families a Happy Thanksgiving

We have done it again, come to the fork in the road where the decision must be made to winterize or wait. I know we all
have a process we go through to keep our machines at peak performance for summer and winterizing is part of that.. So
since my riding season has come to an end, I am offering my assistance to help you winterize your bike, trike, and/or trailer.
We are planning a maintenance day next spring date tbd. Good winterizing makes it easier for the machine to wake up next
spring.
Diane and I would like to thank everyone for their, help, thoughts, well wishes, and prayers and food during my knee
replacement.

On October 4, 2017, the RAMS had a ride. We had planned to go south but the weather forecast called for rain in the
southern part of the state. So being experienced riders, we went north.
We met at the Cozy Cafe in Johnston for breakfast. There were 12 of us present. Mike and Carol led us to the apple
orchard in Fort Dodge. Some of us had lunch and some of us went straight for the desert(hot apple pie and ice
cream). John and Pam led the ride back. It was a great day for a ride.
The only issue that came up was Carol lost her cell phone. It fell off the back of the bike where she mistakenly laid it
and left it there. With a little effort on her and Mike's part, they found the phone by the side of the road near Big
Creek. All ended well.
We currently do not have any more rides scheduled for this year. That does not mean we cannot schedule a ride in a
short time. If we decide to have a ride, we will post it on Facebook.

This month, I’d like to talk about staying safe while riding this time of year. Some of us have quite a bit of riding we will still
do, others will be putting theirs away for the winter before too long.
This time of year, we are subjected to some issues that we don’t have during the rest of the riding season or are not as
prevalent.
Days are getting shorter so if you don’t like riding in the dark, which is a problem for some of us, you need to plan your day
accordingly to get back before the sun goes down. It helps to stay in an area you are familiar with if you are going to ride
after dark.
Deer are a potential problem all year long but this time of year when farmers are clearing fields and the deer go into rut
makes them even more of a problem.
Speaking of farmers, this is the time of year they are out and about on slow moving equipment moving from field to field to
get their work done. We all like to ride the county roads where all the scenery is and we must be careful because you can
encounter farm equipment around any corner.
We can see some extreme changes in weather so prepare your gear accordingly. Be prepared to add or strip layers off to
control your body temperature. Have gear with you to protect you from fall precipitation. Remember also, you need to stay
hydrated even though you might not be sweating as much. Still take your breaks and get some fluids in you from time to
time. If you become dehydrated, many things are affected. Vision, mental alertness, hunger and a whole host of other things
are affected when you become dehydrated.
Lastly, this time of year, along with grass clippings we have been dealing with all year, we also have to watch out for the
leaves that are now falling. Leaves can be hiding other hazards and they, when dry, can be pretty slippery. When wet, they
are extremely hazardous so be very careful.
Everyone, please be careful out there. We want to see you whenever we get together.
