Letter from the Secretary-General
MMUN Delegates, Faculty Advisers, and Friends,
Thank you for your participation at the 60th Midwest Model United Nations. Your
diligent work in preparation and willingness to tackle global issues were critical to
making this conference a success. The negotiations over the last four days resulted in a
set of proposals that not only constitute a high-level of academic accomplishment, but
also an optimistic and solution-oriented view of the future. It is my hope that each of
you will think about the conference’s outcomes and act on them in your ongoing quest
to become global citizens.
I first attended MMUN in 2012, where I represented Bangladesh in the General
Assembly Second Committee. Before that year, I had never participated in a model UN
and had no idea that what I learned here would change the course of my life. For the
past five years, I have had the privilege of providing similar experiences to students and I
am honored to be serving as the Secretary-General for MMUN 61.
We have selected committees and topics for next year with the goal of addressing some
of the world’s most pressing issues. We will be simulating the Commission on the Status
of Women and the United Nations Development Programme and considering a broad
slate of topics that will give participants a new challenge and perspective. We are
incredibly excited to invite you to participate in MMUN 61 and I look forward to seeing
you all again next year.
Please take a moment to fill out our MMUN 60 Conference Feedback Survey, so we can
continue to provide the best experience possible: bit.ly/MMUNFeedback
Best,
Chase Mitchell
