CHAPTER 2
PRODUCT FEATURES
2.1 DescriptionThe AEMC® high-current Micro-ohmmeter Model 6290 is a portable,microprocessor-controlled instrument. It has optimized filters andprotection formeasurements inelectricalsubstations.TheModel6290canbeusedtoaccuratelymeasureverylowcontactresistancesofhighvoltage circuit breakers, switches, busbars, etc., with test currents upto 200A. It employs the four-terminal Kelvinmethod to prevent errorscausedbytestleadsandtheircontactresistances.
Measurement accuracy is guaranteed through a state-of-the-art signalamplificationsystem,offset-freewithhighlong-termstability.Resistancereadings are shown in the alphanumeric display with up to 4½-digitresolution with display of measurement resistances up to 20mW, andresolution down to 0.1µW.
Testcurrentsmaybeadjustedbytheoperatorandaremeasuredusingananalogbargraphindicatoranddigitaldisplay.
TheModel6290hasaninternalmemoryforstoringupto200readings.TheUSB interfacemaybe connected to a computer todownload thestoredvaluesusingtheincludedapplicationsoftware.
Thehigh-currentgenerationsystemisbasedonmoderntechnologythatallows for a significant decrease in bothweight, 24.25 lbs (11kg), andsize.Thecaseismadeofhardplastic, makingithighlyresistanttoimpactand environmental conditions. Internal thermal sensors, in all sensitivecomponents, preventdamagetotheinstrumentcausedbyoverheating.
Thisisaruggedbutlightweightinstrument,andmaybeeasilycarriedbyoneperson.Itiswater-resistantandcanbeusedundersevereweatherconditions (IP54 with case closed) offering an excellent performanceworkingbothinthelaboratoryandoutinthefield.
