Students 12 years and up with strong reading skills and teacher recommendation are also eligible.

Students may attend with their already formed chamber groups or as an individual. Individuals will be placed in chamber groups according to age and ability levels.

Music will be selected specifically for each chamber group and mailed to individuals ahead of time. Students are ex-pected to be familiar with their individual parts before classes begin.

Advanced String Chamber Camp will be in the same building as student classes but will operate on their own schedule and begin classes Monday morning. Participants will work closely with members of the Phoenix Quartet throughout the week in large and small group chamber classes and be coached individually in their ensemble.

The week will end with a final chamber performance on Friday afternoon. This is one of the highlights of PPSI!

Enrollment is open to students studying violin, viola, cello, piano, or harp with a Suzuki teacher using the Suzuki Method. Students are expected to come prepared with memorized repertoire (see website). PPSI is designed to be a family ex-perience and parents should attend classes with their child and help them prepare for each days assignment. Each stu-dent’s registration admits an accompanying adult, free of charge, to all student and parent activities during the week. Pre-Twinkle: For beginning students who do not yet play all of the twinkle variations fluently. Tuition includes 3 classes; a master class, a group class and Dalcroze.

Twinkle and above: Tuition includes 5 classes; a master class, a repertoire class, a technique class (if appropriate, oth-erwise, Dalcroze or music mind games) and 1 or 2 enrich-ments. Cellists late book 3 and above will be placed in cello choir.

All students will perform in a final concert at the end of the week. Daily repertoire classes will prepare pieces for this concert as well as individual ensemble groups. All piano stu-dents will perform in a solo recital. Concert dress is black bottom and white top for string students and dress clothes for all other instruments.

Institute participants have the opportunity to perform in two Student Honors Recitals, Wednesday and Thursday at the noon concert. If you would like to be considered as a soloist for the student recital, you are invited to audition by submitting a videotape or DVD of a well-polished and memorized piece with accompaniment (if applicable). Con-sideration will be given to various ages, levels and instru-ments. Application and videotapes/DVD must be post-marked by May 1, 2008. Students will be notified by the end of June if accepted. An accompanist will be provided but students must supply their own music and accompaniment part. If selected, practice time with the accompanist will be arranged. Dress clothes are required for Honors recital performances.

Complete the Honors Solo Recital Application and mail with labeled video tape or DVD to PPSI, 6331 Glenmoor Rd., Boulder, CO 80303

Prerequisite to Training: Every Child Can!® (ECC) is required prior to taking Book 1.

2. Course Order: Courses must be taken in order through Book 2. 3. Audition Requirement: “To qualify as a participant in training

courses rather than auditor, applicants must submit a videotape audi-tion of specified repertoire to the SAA, preferably prior to enroll-ment. Tapes should be submitted at least 8 weeks prior to the course start date, with the required fees and a completed applica-tion form. If submitted later than 8 weeks before the course start date, audition results determining participant eligibility may not be available prior to the course, and will requires late audition fees. For courses occurring during summer 2008, applicants submitting tapes later than March 31, 2008 may not re-ceive audition results prior to the course, even if meeting the above deadlines. An applicant may enroll late as “tape pend-ing”, but will incur late audition fees, and audition results determin-ing eligibility for participant credit will probably not be available until after the course. If auditions from “tape pending” applicants are not accepted, their course work will not be eligible retroactively for SAA credit registration as a participant, only as an auditor—even if course work was completed. For further information, please see the SAA website at www.suzukiassociation.org, in the teacher sec-tion under training, the downloadable video audition application form (with instructions); or call the SAA toll free (888) 378-9854 for this form.”

4. Required Course Preparation: All workshop participants are

asked to prepare the repertoire to be studied to the point of fluent performance. Memorization is not required but is recommended. Additionally, participants should be conversant with the ideas pre-sented in Dr. Suzuki’s Nurtured by Love .

All participants will be performing in class. Strings and woodwinds are expected to provide their own instruments. It is recommended that participants bring a tape recorder and a notebook to all sessions. 100% attendance is required for registering the course. A minimum of 4 teacher trainers are required to offer the class. Harp Unit 1A and 1B teacher training is an 8 day class and will begin on Sat. July12 and end on Sat. July 19. Details will be forthcoming with registration confirmation

Harp Practicum—Delaine Fedson

The SAA Practicum Unit™ is a short-term unit developed to enhance the SAA's system of short-term workshop training. While unit core training mainly focuses on Suzuki repertoire and instrumental technique, the emphasis of the Practicum is on hon-ing the art of teaching. Topics include communication skills, teaching strategies, diagnostics and observation. In a nurturing and supportive environment of peers, using video footage from their home studio and on-site teaching, participants practice self-assessment skills to identify their strengths in teaching and those areas in need of improvement. In keeping with the SAA’s commit-ment to life-long learning, the Practicum provides teachers with an invaluable opportunity at any stage in their development.
