Sermon Outline

Acts 1:9-11 (MSG), “As they watched, he was taken up and disappeared in a cloud. They stood there, staring into the empty sky. Suddenly two men appeared in white robes! They said, ‘You Galileans, why do you just stand here looking up at an empty sky? This very Jesus who was tak-en up from among you to heaven will come as certainly and mysteriously as he left.’” Revelation:1:3, “Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near.” Aaron Brockett, “When the apocalyptic dust settles, make certain you’re standing with Jesus.” Question #1… Do you know where you are going? Max Lucado writes, “Some people want nothing to do with God. He speaks; they cover their ears. He commands; they scoff. They don’t want Him telling them how to live. They mock what He says about marriage, money, sex, or the value of human life. They regard His Son as a joke and the cross as utter folly. They spend their lives telling God to leave them alone. And at the moment of their final breath, He will honor their request… “Get away from me, you who do evil. I never knew you.” (Matt. 7:23 NCV). Biblical references to hell: “blackest darkness” (Jude 13) “everlasting destruction” (2 Thessalonians 1:9), “weeping and gnashing of teeth” (Matthew 8:12) Option #1… We can embrace eternal separation from the Father in hell Billy Graham, “If there was more hell taught in the pulpits there would be less hell practiced in the pews.” An old time revival preacher said… “Just because you don’t believe in Hell doesn’t lower the tem-perature there one degree.”

Sermon Notes

 Hell is a real place

Matt. 10:28 (CEV), “Don't be afraid of people. They can kill you, but they cannot harm your soul. Instead, you should fear God who can destroy both your body and your soul in hell.”

It’s a real place that’s located “outside” Matthew 22:13 (CEV), “So the king gave orders for that person to be tied hand and foot and to be thrown outside into the dark. That's where people will cry and grit their teeth in pain.”

It’s a real place that will last forever Matthew 25:46 (NLT), “And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous will go into eternal life.” C.S. Lewis in “The Great Divorce,” “There are only two kinds of people in the end: those who say to God, ‘Thy will be done,’ and those to whom God says, in the end, ‘Thy will be done.’ All that are in Hell…choose it.” Option #2… We can embrace eternal life with the Father in Heaven 1 Corinthians 2:9 (NLT), “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.”

John 14:2-3 (MSG), “There is plenty of room for you in my Father’s home. If that weren’t so, would I have told you that I’m on my way to get a room ready for you? And if I’m on my way to get your room ready, I’ll come back and get you so you can live where I live.”

It’s a place where we will be with God for eternity Verse 1-3 (NCV), “Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth. The first heaven and the first earth had disappeared, and there was no sea anymore. And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God. It was prepared like a bride dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, ‘Now God’s presence is with people, and he will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them and will be their God.’”

It’s a place without sorrow, sadness, sickness or death Verse 4 (NCV), “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death, sadness, crying, or pain, because all the old ways are gone.”

It’s a place of incomparable beauty Verses 10-11 (NCV), “And the angel carried me away by the Spirit to a very large and high mountain. He showed me the holy city, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God.

Sermon Outline/Notes

It was shining with the glory of God and was bright like a very expensive jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal.” Verses 18-19(NCV), “The wall was made of jasper, and the city was made of pure gold, as pure as glass. The foundation stones of the city walls were decorated with every kind of jewel.” Verse 21(NCV), “The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate having been made from a sin-gle pearl. And the street of the city was made of pure gold as clear as glass.”

It’s a place of purity and holiness Verse 27(NCV), “Nothing unclean and no one who does shameful things or tells lies will ever go into it. Only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life will enter the city.” Question #2… Are you ready to go there?

First, We have to be honest about our spiritual condition Secondly, Admit that you’re a sinner in need of a Savior and surrender your life to Him

Revelation 3:20-22a (MSG), “Look at me. I stand at the door. I knock. If you hear me call and open the door, I’ll come right in and sit down to supper with you. Conquerors will sit alongside me at the head table, just as I, having conquered, took the place of honor at the side of my Father. That’s my gift to the conquerors! Are your ears awake? Listen.” Revelation 22:17 NCV, “The Spirit and the bride say, ‘Come!’ Let the one who hears this say, ‘Come!’ Let whoever is thirsty come; whoever wishes may have the water of life as a free gift.”

CENTRAL INDIA CHRISTIAN

MISSION (CICM) Ajai and Indu Lall started CICM in December 1982 with a dream to obey Jesus’ Great Com-

mission by establishing a mission center in their homeland. From the very begin-ning they focused on evangelism, church planting and leadership training. What started with these two faithful servants has grown into a multifaceted mission helping thousands of people each year through evangelistic and benevolent minis-tries.

Evangelism: From CICM’s beginning their outreach has grown and now extends to 11 states of central and northern India, and the neighboring countries of Bangla-desh, Bhutan and Nepal.

Church Planting: With God’s help, CICM’s evangelists have planted and lead many churches. Within these churches are people whose lives have been changed by the Gospel message. People have discovered a new way of living, filled with hope and faith in the Living God and grounded in the truth of His Word.

Leadership Training: CICM provides training for their evangelists. Some earn a theology degree from Bible colleges in India. Most complete evangelist training at our Biblical Academy at the CICM campus.

Benevolent Ministries include a Children’s Ministry, a Medical Ministry and an Emergency Disaster Service.

On April 25th & 26th, our youth group will participate in World Vision’s 30

Hour Famine. Between now and then, they’re raising money to help World

Vision fight hunger.

If you haven’t done so already, please consider how you can support our stu-

dents by donating to the 30 Hour Famine. Every $35 we raise can help feed

and care for one child for a month.

And don’t forget to join our “Kiss the Cow” challenge! Donate $35, desig-nate the funds as either “Adam” or “Jerry” - whoever gets the most money donated in their name will have to “Kiss the Cow!” (or camel, or pig, or what-ever barnyard animal can be located). Want to learn more about our youth group’s Famine and how you can help?

Call (703) 971-0277 or e-mail [email protected].

JOURNEY MEALS TO GO Journey Meals To Go is an area of our church ministry that directly touches those in need. Currently, we provide meals to those that have had a new baby, had surgery or had any other circumstance arise that put them in need of meal sup-port. The meals are coordinated through the Meal Train website, making it sim-ple for the Journey Meals supporters and recipients to get all the important de-tails. If you or someone you know within the church is in need of support, or if you would like to help provide meals, please contact Abby Bulliner at [email protected] or Lisa Steedsman - [email protected] via email.

LABELS FOR EDUCATION - MOUNTAIN MISSION SCHOOL Please save the UPC code/lids from the products listed in the flyer on the shelf in the mailroom. Also save the “Box Tops for Educa-tion” coupons on various products, including Kleenex tissues, cake mixes, and frozen products. Place them in the box also provided on the shelf in the mailroom. They will be sent to the Mountain Mission School in Grundy, Virginia. These labels are greatly appreciated by them as they can use them to get a variety of different supplies & equipment that the school couldn’t get otherwise! One thing to keep in mind - don’t hold onto your “Box Tops” too long - they do expire and they can’t use them if the date on them is past.

COMMUNION PREPARATION FOR 2014 Have you been looking for a place to serve at the Journey? We need people to prepare communion. We need people to prep & set up before 1st service and between services, someone to clean up after 2nd service, and someone to do prep, set up and clean up for the 3rd service! You’ll see a sign up sheet in the lobby reflecting these three areas. Normally sign up is on a monthly basis, but if you can only serve one or two weeks in a month, that’s OK, too! Easy to follow instructions and all supplies are provided. If you can help, sign up on the sheet in the lobby, or just talk to Judy Davis. For more information, contact the Jour-ney office.

Opportunities to Serve

CROPS FOR KOINONIA - VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! One Journey outreach ministry to the community is a group of volunteers who plant a garden on the church grounds every spring. The produce that is grown is given to Koinonia, an area

food bank to help feed those in need. Last year we gave over 1,300 pounds of tomatoes, squash, melons, beans, peppers, eggplant, cucumbers, and okra. Koinonia is very thankful for fresh produce to supplement their canned goods. This spring we plan to start planting the garden around the beginning of May. No special skills are needed. We have several expert gardeners who can show you what needs to be done. After we plant, most of the help needed is to harvest and transport the produce to Koinonia. If you are interested in volunteering for this special ministry that gives back to the community we serve; please contact Dennis Corcoran at 703-644-6331 or by e-mail [email protected]
