The Residence | Windsor
HistoryKing George IV inherited the throne of England in1820 and immediately ordered a major refurbishmentof Windsor Castle.
His master mason, James Thomas Bedborough wascommissioned to orchestrate this work, being mainlyresponsible for the extended two upper levels of theround tower.
Being of an entrepreneurial spirit, Bedborough thenturned his attentions to the area around Windsor andbecame the largest house proprietor in the Borough. He procured a significant tract of land around thearea of Clarence Crescent, Trinity Place andClaremont Road. This area was later to becomeknown as the Bedborough Estate.
He later purchased twenty acres of land at Uptonnear Slough and commenced one of the mostsignificant and prestigious projects of the day, UptonPark which was an exclusive development for theupper classes.
The ethos of James Thomas Bedborough isperpetuated in The Residence, an exclusive andquality development in the heart of historic Windsor.
Her Royal Highness Princess Christian, the thirddaughter of Queen Victoria, founded the HRHPrincess Christian’s Hospital. The original buildingwas at 4 Clarence Villas and was added to in 1894when no’s 1 and 2 were purchased by PrincessChristian and again in 1904 when no’s 3 and 5Clarence Villas were purchased.
The name of the home was changed to The PrinceChristian Victor Nursing Home in memory of PrincessChristian’s son who died in the South African war, however the original name was restored in 1926following the death of the Princess.
The former Princess Christian site is a significantbuilding, it played an historic role in national nursingand its development in the local community wascelebrated on the occasion of the hospital's centenaryin 1994.
Positioned in the heart of the historic Royal Town ofWindsor, The Residence is an exclusive, premierdevelopment reflecting the quality and status of thisprestigious location.
