Disk brake wheels
Disk brakes have become standard on modern glidersand power gliders with their high all-up weights.
The somewhat greater space requirements and theadditional engineering for a complete hydraulics systemis compensated by the benefits: the superior heatdissipation of disk brake wheel results in higher ther-mal rating than on a shoe brake wheel, brake fade isnegligible and braking power is greater and bettercontollable.
The components of a hydraulic system are: hub withbrake disk and brake calliper, master brake cylinder, hydraulic hoses and connectors.
We have also developed retrofit kits for many glidersand motor gliders that are not factory-equipped withdisk brakes. For the shoe brake wheels Kobold andStandard we offer alternatively a hydraulic actuation.
Our manufacturing programm includes disk brakewheels for 3 1/2, 4, 5 and 6 inch tires.
The most important quality features of Tost wheels:
• Small dimensions combined with high loadcapacity and durability
• The Tost-specific crumple zone system for the„Standard“ wheel series reduces the danger ofinjury or damage during hard landings
• Emergency rolling characteristics maintained• Maintenance-free groove ball bearings guarantee
a long service life• Wheel mounting without axial distortion• Spare parts availability and repair service assured
for models several decaeds old
All Tost wheels are supplied with EASA Form 1.
For 60 years we have been manufacturing wheels foraircraft: for gliders, Ultralights and light aircraft andhelicopters. Over the years we didn’t reinvent the wheel;instead we have concentrated to improve and developfurther our product range to meet growing expectationsand requirements. Sample are the new wheel seriesTria and Penta. New production methods result in aweight saving of up to 40 % and even more serviceabilitythanks to easy handling.
A broad range of braked and brakeless 3" to 10" hubsfacilitates the choice for a particular application. In caseyou do not find what you’re looking for, we willmanufacture an aircraft wheel with mounting width andball bearing diameter to your specifications, eg. forvintage gliders. Axles and brake disks can be made assingles pieces according to a drawing or sample.
We manufacture custom wheels for your aircraft
New: wheel product line 4“Tria, 5“ Penta, 6“ Ultralite
The new wheels stand out with a especially light andtight construction. All wheel hubs are anodised onrequest in blue, silver, red or black. Also availalbe aslanding wheels without brake. The 5“ disk brake wheels Penta are mounted in seriesin the glider types EB 29, ASH 31, DG 1001, S10;optional in Arcus and further types. For other gliderswe can provide TMs.

Aircraft wheels
For a large number of gliders the Simplex shoe brakecontinues to be the right choice. Advantages: simpleconstruction, reduced space requirements, low weight, lower force on the brake lever because of the servoaction, mechanical actuation with cable and lower price.
We offer a new solution with the friction loss freehydraulic actuation, please see description on page 5.

nAircraft wheels • Aircraft tires and tubes
We are the specialist for aircraft tires for sizes from3" to 10". All tires with suitable tubes are available exstock.
Please find all technical data, dimensions anddescriptions of the tires and tubes in the Wheel Catalog.
TOST AERO
For 30 years we manufacture aircraft tires exclusivelyunder the brand TOST AERO in the dimensions:4.00-4, 260 x 85 and 200 x 50. Characteristics are:long lifetime, very robust, for high loads and speeds.
Further tire brands
Michelin Air and Aviator, Condor, Mitas, Aero Classic,Specialty Tires, Goodyear.
All Tost wheels are mounted with tube type tires. Thisenables you to change the tire on the airfield withstandard tools.Advise: always change the tube when changing the tire. The tube enlarges during operation; an enlarged tubein a new tire will get foldes which can rubb throughuntimely.
Wheel accessories and spare parts
• Tost brake disks• Brake assemblies and torque plate sets• Master Cylinder for brake fluid and hydraulic fluid• Brake linings and rivets• Gasket sets• Hydraulic hoses / linings• Hydraulic fittings and couplings• Filling gun for hydraulic systems• Stahlbus bleeder valves• Anchor plates for shoe brake wheels• Set of brake shoes and springs• Brake lever and brake cam• Axles, axle sets complete

CRG
The tow cable retractor winch with guillotine (CRG)allows the tow cable to be retracted during descent, and, in the event of danger, to be chopped. This hassubstantial safety and cost benefits compared with con-ventional aero tow:
• No cable drop with potential risk to people or aircraft• Considerably diminished noise levels since aircraft
can land right away
The retractor winch is installed in the fuselage (bag-gage compartment); the load is taken up by the towsupport in the aircraft tail. Once the glider pilot has re-leased the tow cable, the tug pilot retracts the cableand is ready for the next towing job.
Since 1981, circa 700 of these CRGs (previously knownas System Feuerstein) have been successfully deplo-yed all over the world. Refer to the tables for a list ofEASA-approved installations.
CRGs are installed as standard by aircraft manu-facturers, but retrofitting older aircraft is also possibleand is done very often by gliding clubs. We consultyou profondly.
The requirements of the regional authorities for airfieldapprovals can be fulfilled with the installation of a CRGin the towing aircraft.
CRG for motor gliders
We modified the CRG related to the certification ofmotor gliders for aero tow. Winch and tow support areoptimized in terms of size and weight.
The CRGs are installed as standard in the followingmotor gliders and approved.Retrofit in coordination with the manufacturer.
• More economical operation through elimination ofthe cable drop and reduced flight time
• No delays in aircraft starts because of tracing andretrieving tow cables
• In the event of danger, the tow cable can be chop-ped anytime to sever the link between glider andtug, also under high loads and large cale angles
Basically, our CRG can be installed in every tug whichis certified for towing. We make out an offer and con-sult you about the installation and the approval.

Tow cable retractor winch with guillotine
Electric switch unit
Rewinding the cable is started by means of a toggleswitch fitted with a control light. The switch unit (switch, fuse and cable set for standard 12 V on-board voltage)is prewired and assembled on an aluminium plate formounting on the instrument panel in the pilot's line ofsight.
Once the glider has been released, the electrical switchunit starts the retractor winch. Operation can be checkedin the rear-view mirror. After the cable has been fullyrewound – red marking on the end of cable is visible –an overload switch switches the motor off automatically.
Tow cable
The tow cable with 6.1 mm diameter has a standardlength of 50 m. The cable is terminated by an aluminiumend piece, complete with weak link and connecting ringpair. Breaking load of the weak link to your requirements.Unless otherwise specified with the order, we supply astandard 500 daN white weak link.A cable with higher breaking load is in testing procedure.
Options
Cable retraction sensor with cut-off 300200
It is not always possible to observe the cable retractionin the rear-view mirror. Our solution: an approximationswitch permits contactless detection of the end pieceand a control light indicates that the cable is completelyretracted. The drive switches off immediately and cannotbe switched on again. Benefits: increased safetybecause of monitored cable retraction, longer motorservice life. Easy to upgrade on all systems.
Cable stop plate with guillotine
For tugs of type Robin and Morane, or for motor glidersor ultralights, the new cable stop plate is bolted to theexisting tow support. For tail wheel aircraft, eg, Piper,Maule or Husky, the system is supplied with a new towsupport on which the cable stop plate with guillotine ismounted.
The guillotine is activated by the existing release cable. The cable is simply transferred to the guillotine lever. Atow release can be used optionally, eg, for banner towsor double tows by transferring the cable from theguillotine back to the tow release. Please note: onlyone of the two towing devices may be used at one time.
The cable load is taken up by the stop plate via a sleevescrewed over a knot in the tow cable. The cable load isnot taken by the winch unit. The permitted cable load isequivalent to the permitted towing capacity of the tug.
A rubber funnel takes up the conical end-piece whilerewinding the tow cable. The fuselage is protectedagainst damages.
Retractor winch
Depending on the model, the retractor winch ismounted either on a base plate or a motor support andinstalled in the fuselage of the tug, either behind theseat or in the baggage compartment. If necessary, thewinch unit can be dismantled quickly. The maincomponents are a 12 V (standard) or 24 V (optional)motor with a worm gear, motor bracket, cable drumand cable cover.
The kit is ready-to-tow, ie, you receive all necessaryparts for the installation. You can commence operationimmediately after the acceptance. The aluminium cableis not supplied as part of the standard kit due to thehigh transport cost. We can include this item on requestin the scope of delivery correctly flared.

Tost weak links in optimized format combine thefollowing improvements:
• Longer service life• Correct marking with load group and manufacturer’s
name• Made of high-quality certified aircraft steel• Clear differentiation from inferior copies• Manufacturing tolerance 5%
Like our type-approved equipment, also our weak linksare manufactured according to the EASA-approvedproduction methods. Each batch is tested oncomputerized test equipment and the results aredocumented. This guarantees consistent high qualityand traceability.
Notes• Weak links protect your aircraft against
overloading.• Use only the weak links stipulated in your aircraft
TCDS or aircraft manual.• Checking the cable preamble is mandatory
according to SBO (German Gliding OperationRegulations); this includes the inspection ofweak links.
• Replace the weak link immediately in the case ofvisible damage.
• We recommend that the weak link insert arereplaced after 200 starts:an insert exchanged in time is always saferand cheaper than an aborted launch.
• Always use the protective steel sleeve.• Use only the correct shackles: they prevent the
weak link and the steel sleeve from twisting, leading to an increase of the breaking load.
• Never use two equal inserts, eg, both with roundholes, in a reserve system weak link, since thiswould double the breaking load.
• Warning: using combinations of weak link insertsfrom different manufacturers can double thebreaking load because of the elongation of inferiorinserts.
• Refer to our Weak Link Application List forchoosing the right weak link.
Protective sleeve 111000 / 111200The steel sleeve protects the weak link against de-formation, premature wear and tear and uncontrolledchange of the breaking load.Tost protective sleeves are made from stainless steel. They have inspection holes on both sides which let youcheck the condition of the weak link and whether youare using the correct weak link insert (colour).Single-insert weak link (1 weak link) 111000Reserve-insert weak link (2 weak links) 111200

Connecting ring pairConnecting ring pairs are vital for the safe connectionand reliable separation of tow cable and tow release. The type certification stipulates that every Tost towrelease must be operated only with a ring pair meetingthe aeronautical standard LN 65091.Such a ring pair must be stamped with the manu-facturer's name and the standard number. Welded ringpairs are generally prohibited. Their use voids ourwarranty for the release. Welded rings damage therelease. More-over, undersized or deformed rings cancause the ring pair to jam the release and inhibit correctoperation under load.Ring pairs must be visually checked and measured atregular intervals to ensure correct operation. Ring pairsthat deviate from the standard dimensions must bereplaced. You can obtain the standard dimensions fromus.

Rope-down securing units • Helicopter equipment
Helicopters have proved themselves the world over asa fast and safe means of transport. It is also thepreferred mode of transport for moving fire-fightingteams or police task forces quickly into an operationalarea. They can reach sites which are inaccessible forsurface transport, or where access would take too long.Landing in tight spaces, however, entails great risks fora helicopter.
To expand the mission scope of helicopters wedeveloped our rop-down securing unit to ensure thesafe descend of rescue teams. They rope down to aprecise location, while the helicopter hovers in positionoverhead.
During the rope-down operation, either using rope-downequipment or fast roping, members of the task forceare safely attached to the helicopter via the Tost rope-down securing unit.
On completion of the rope-down operation, the pilot ora crew member disconnects the rope to release theteam members, either singly or in groups. The helicopteris ready for the next mission immediately.
The one-person unit serves also as redundancesecuring unit.
Rescue cages 190210 / 190211The rescue cage is used to drop or pick up people (alsoinjured people) in difficult terrain. Also suitable for useon cranes or building sites. The cage mesh of poly-propylene rope, colour bright orange. The frame is madeof nonrusting, acidproof tubing.1 person 190211 2 persons 190210
