“Mexico, Mexiiiiiiiicooo!» This Luis Mariano tune is what springs to mind for French people whenever anyone mentions this great and beautiful country.

For its sixth international queer tango festival, LA VIE EN ROSE is taking you on another journey. After “From Russia with queer love” in 2017, we are inviting queer tango Mexico to join us in Paris this year.

A five-day event attended by dancers from all over the world, complete with wild milongas and workshops given by the finest teachers from Mexico, Argentina and France. Viva la vida y viva la libertad !

Once again, this festival celebrates the freedom to choose your role and change it at your leisure, the freedom and pride of being lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual, queer, uncertain or asexual and the pleasure of sharing our dance and honouring our allies without whom our victories would be very forlorn indeed. It will be the joy of seeing old friends and meeting new dancers, exploring Paris together and dancing tango at some of the capital’s more unusual landmarks, showing our queer tango to passers-by with pride.

On the agenda: la vida en rosa mexicano, festive and colourful milongas with Frida Kahlos dancing proudly with Chavela Vargases, Mexican wrestlers holding each other in passionate embraces and Adelitas poised to start the ecological revolution. You are sure to find mariachis with a little too much make-up and the tattooed Mexican gangsters might well seem very feminine, not to mention infinitely tender. Together, we will celebrate our diversity and, in keeping with Mexico’s autumn tradition, we will pay homage to the dead at the Milonga de los muertos because Argentine tango would not exist without those who came before. We will waken Juan D’Arienzo, Carlos Di Sarli, Anibal Troilo, Osvaldo Pugliese and many more to dance with them until dawn.

Paris and the LA VIE EN ROSE International Queer Tango Festival will clothe themselves in light to bring you Mexican queer tango, giving you, once again, a unique and unforgettable event.

VIVA LA VIDA « Mexico, Mexiiiiiiiicooo ! »

C’est ce refrain de Luis Mariano qui vient à l’esprit des Français quand on évoque ce grand et beau pays qu’est le Mexique.

Pour sa 6e édition, le Festival International de Tango Queer LA VIE EN ROSE vous emmène une nouvelle fois en voyage. Après la Russie «with queer love» en 2017, cette année nous invitons le tango queer du Mexique à nous rejoindre à Paris.

5 jours de rencontres internationales, de milongas endiablées et de cours de tango argentin avec les plus grand.e.s professeur.e.s du Mexique, d’Argentine et de France. Viva la vida y viva la libertad !

Une fois encore, ce festival célébrera la liberté de choisir son rôle et d’en changer à loisir, la liberté et la fierté d’être lesbienne, gay, bisexuel.le, trans, queer, incertain.e ou asexué.e et le plaisir de partager nos danses et d’honorer nos allié.es sans qui nos victoires seraient bien tristes. Ce sera la joie de se retrouver tou.te.s ensemble et de rencontrer de nouveaux.elles danseurs.euses, de parcourir Paris et de danser le tango dans des endroits insolites de la capitale française avec la fierté de montrer notre tango queer aux passants.

Au programme : la vida en rosa mexicano, des milongas festives et colorées avec des Frida Kahlo démultipliées dansant avec des Chavela Vargas fières de leurs origines, des abrazos fougueux entre des lutteuses ou des lutteurs coloré.e.s, des Adelitas prêtes à faire la révolution écologique. Vous trouverez sûrement les mariachis un peu trop maquillés et les gangsters mexicains tatoués vous paraîtront probablement d’une grande féminité et d’une infinie tendresse. Tou.te.s ensemble, nous fêterons notre diversité et, comme en automne au Mexique, nous célébrerons nos morts à la Milonga de los muertos, car il ne peut y avoir de vie et de tango argentin sans ceux qui nous ont précédés. Nous réveillerons Juan D’Arienzo, Carlos Di Sarli, Anibal Troilo, Osvaldo Pugliese et bien d’autres pour danser avec eux jusqu’à l’aube.

Paris et le Festival International de Tango Queer LA VIE EN ROSE mettront leurs habits de lumière pour vous faire rencontrer le tango queer du Mexique et vous offrir, une fois de plus, un festival unique et inoubliable. Bienvenue et Viva la Vida !L’équipe LVR.

MERCREDI 3 juilletWEDNESDAY 3 JULYPour les festivaliers qui arriveront un jour avant, Vincent Hodin vous propose de prendre l’air du soir en dansant dans Paris. Nous nous retrouverons le mercredi 3 à 18h et partirons à 18h30 pour suivre un parcours dans le centre de la ville. Il y aura

plusieurs haltes qui donneront lieu à une ou deux danses. Ce sera l’occasion des premiers abrazos, pour certains des retrouvailles et d’autres de faire connaissance. Le parcours se terminera vers 20h30 au Jardin Tino Rossi - Quai Saint Bernard - Jussieu/Quai de la Rapée, à deux pas de l’église de Notre-Dame de Paris, où se déroule les soirs d’été une Milonga queer friendly au bord de l’eau. Vous pour-rez aussi nous y rejoindre.For those coming a day early, Vincent Hodin will take you on an evening stroll and dance through Paris. We will meet on Wednesday 3 July 2019 at 6 p.m. and set off at 6.30 p.m. on a tour of the city centre. We will make several stops for a couple of dances, giving you the chance to experience your first abrazos of the festival with old friends and new. We will finish at around 8.30 p.m. at the Jardin Tino Rossi, not far from Notre-Dame Cathedral, where a queer-friendly milonga is held by the river on summer nights. You can also join us there. Cette année, Dita et Rasputina vous proposent un espace de transformation ouvert à tou.t.e.s avant la milonga du Vendredi soir. Elles donneront des tips de maquillage et de transformation pour ceux.celles qui souhaitent se transformer en Drag Queen. Rasputina immortalisera le moment par une petite vidéo reportage.This year, Dita and Rasputina will be opening up a space for you to drag up before the Friday night milonga. They will give you tips on the make-up and clothes you need to transform into a drag queen. Rasputina will also immortalise the event in a short film.

“Nous avons remarqué l’an dernier que certain.e.s cherchaient un espace pour se transformer sur le lieu du festival. Alors autant le faire à plusieurs, c’est plus fun”.“We noticed last year that some people were looking for an area to drag up at the festi-val venue. So let’s do it together this year - the more the merrier”.

13h30 à 16h00C’est une tradition pour le festival la Vie en Rose, une marche à travers Paris qui donne l’occasion d’abrazos dans de magnifiques décors offerts par la capitale.

Olivier Varlet et Kevin Barron vous invitent à parcourir ensemble la ville pendant deux heures et demi avec des pauses dansantes. Un moment un peu subversif et militant où nous faisons découvrir le tango argentin queer aux parisiens et aux touristes. Une occasion aussi de partager ensemble un moment inoubliable qui vous donnera envie de vous retrouver l’année prochaine.

Pour les gourmands : nous trouverons un bon glacier sur le p a r c o u r s pour partager aussi le plaisir des papilles. Prévoyez de bonnes chaussures, la marche peut représenter 2 à 3 km.

1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.In keeping with what has become a tradition at La Vie en Rose, Olivier Varlet and Kevin Barron will take you on a walking tour of Paris so you can enjoy some abrazos in the magnificent setting of France’s capital.

We will visit part of the city on a walk lasting for two-and-a-half hours, interspersed with breaks for dancing. It will be a subversive and militant time too as we will be showing the lo-cals and tourists what queer tango is. All in all, it will be an unforgettable event, making you all the more eager to come back next yearto meet new friends and old.

As always, the route will be carefully selected to include a stop for ice cream. And take appropriate footwear with you - the walk can be 2-3 km.
