6th Grade Keyboarding/Basic Word Processing Remind @ff3426In this course students will learn how to "Touch-Type" & Basic Word Processing Skills. Students will also learn how to use software programs and hardware devices properly. These tools help learners finish tasks such as homework, quizzes, conduct research and essays. Microsoft Word is the major software application used in this course.
Students will also learn Digital Literacy through Everfi; which teaches students how to be good Digital Citizens.

In this class you will: ● learn about the design process, how to collaborate with groups to design and accomplish
productive outcomes, and how to perfect the soft skills that EVERY Charlotte engineering company we visited said was the MOST important thing they look for when hiring and evaluating candidates.
Specifically, you will: ● design worlds and create group solutions in Minecraft: Education Edition.● work in groups to design puzzle cubes and fidget spinners that will then be built and 3D printed.● experience real world application of various forms of measurement including standard customary as
well as the metric system, culminating in the creation and competitive racing of an air skimmer.● practice various forms of sketching and dimensioning resulting in the design of your own theme park.● have lots and lots of fun as you practice skills that will translate directly to future career fields.

Automation and Robotics6th Grade

In this class you will: ● Students trace the history, development, and influence of automation and robotics as they learn
about mechanical systems, energy transfer, machine automation, and computer control systems. Students use the VEX Robotics® platform to design, build, and program real-world objects such as traffic lights, toll booths, and robotic arms.
Specifically, you will: ● design robots● work in groups ● Code using RobotC (basic C Language)

This year we will be learning all about how to live a healthy active lifestyle! From appropriate communication within the relationships we have in our lives to dealing with bullying. We will also learn about Reproductive Health and Safety Education, Mental and Emotional Health and how this can impact us in so many different ways. During our time in health we will also have a Guest Speaker from Mecklenburg ABC join us in class to teach a lesson where students will learn about the impacts of Alcohol tobacco and other Drugs on their lives and the consequence that can come with using these items.
Much of the course work will be assigned and collected through Canvas, but will be broken down in the classroom for them to work on and learn about the different topics within each unit.
Physical Education
6th graders are almost complete with their testing and goal setting.
First units include:
6th - Team Handball
Writing Prompts● Students are being assigned WEEKLY writing prompts to be turned in to their
teacher in their PE notebook.
● The purpose of these prompts is to bridge the gap between what we teach them in the classroom and what we are unable to cover due to time.
● Each grade level will receive a different prompt based on units and information.
Health
● Health units will begin during the 2nd Quarter● Units will run through Canvas ● Students will do work inside and outside of Canvas● Units will include:
○ Alcohol, Tobacco and other Drugs○ Reproductive Health and Safety Education○ Nutrition
Fit for Life Curriculum

● Class is Fitness Focused○ Core○ Cardiovascular Endurance○ Muscular Endurance and Strength○ Flexibility

6th grade OrchestraMrs. Erica Daly
[email protected] will be learning to play on stringed instruments and will learn to play music to perform in concerts.
Our first concert is October 22, at 6:00pm
Chorus ● Students will gain a sense of
music appreciation through performing various genres of music.
● Students will learn to write and sing music in class.
● Students will have 1 mandatory concert per semester.
● Students are to practice solfege and lyrics at home!
