Year 10 Progress Evening took place on Monday and we would like to thank all parents and carers for their ongoing support. Home-school links are absolutely key and our recently formed Parent Council will further develop the school's relationship with all of our families. Progress Evening attendance was lower than that of recent events which is disappointing. It is such a great opportunity for parents and carers to show support for the value of education. Attendance and support of pupils at Y10 Progress Evening directly correlates to outcomes and post-16 success so we would encourage any parents who couldn't attend to contact the school to arrange an appointment with the Key Stage 4 Assistant Headteacher Mrs Worswick.

Christmas Jumper Day
Broadoak School will be supporting the Save
the Children ‘Christmas Jumper Day’ on
Friday 14th December. Pupils can wear a
Christmas jumper instead of their blazer for a
£1 donation which will be sent to Save the
Children. Normal shirt and tie are to be worn
underneath their jumpers.
Also, we will be having our Christmas dinner
on this date so everyone will look very festive
at lunchtime.
Year 10 Hospitality & Catering Trip to the Christmas Markets
This week both Year 10 Hospitality and Catering groups were able to spend their morning
at the Manchester Christmas Markets. This was in order for them to gain a valuable
insight into the hospitality and catering industry. Pupils were able to walk around the
markets and sample some of the international cuisine that was on offer. Although it was
wet and rainy, the pupils really took the opportunity to consider how the course that they
are studying contributes to the career paths that they could consider.
School Uniform
As the days get colder I would like to remind all parents that children are not permitted to
wear hoodies to school. Coats and school jumpers should be worn instead. Gloves, scarves
and woolly hats are also recommended to keep your child warm. Children wearing hoodies to
school next week will have them confiscated and returned at the end of the week. This also
applies to non-school jumpers worn underneath the school blazer. Many thanks for your
support on this matter and on our continued drive to raise standards across Broadoak
School.

Year 10 Winter Netball League
Throughout last term, our Year 10 netball team played in the Trafford Schools’ Netball League ‘C’ against Altrincham College of Arts. The team played against tough opposition, where a number of ACA’s team were of club standard, including their shooter and goal defence. Unfortunately, Broadoak lost both of the fixtures against ACA yet they can hold their heads up high as the team played some very good netball and refused to give up. Outstanding performers were selected by ACA’s netball team and they chose Josie Pickens and Megan Holroyd. Well done to all players.
Year 9 Winter Netball League
On Thursday night, our Year 9 girls’ netball team went to Sale High School to play their second fixture night of the season. In the previous fixture night the team performed outstandingly well, beating the other three teams to put them at the top of Trafford Schools’ League ‘C’. This put them in a great position coming into the final round of matches. The team did not perform as well on the night however, they performed well enough, including a 7-0 beating of Lostock School which put them joint first with St Anthony’s. This meant that it went to goal difference and the goals scored against Lostock was all that mattered. With a difference of 3 goals, the Year 9 girls have become Trafford Schools’ ‘C’ League Netball Champions for 2018/19. Outstanding performers over the two nights were the two formidable shooters Amy Fong and Aimee Wallwork. Well done to all players.
‘AS WE GATHER TOGETHER’ By The Urban Poet
As we gather here together
In spirit and in strength
A community that forever
Will go to any lengths
To get behind and support
those who are in need
Yes, we believe in the saying
‘A friend in need is a friend indeed’
This time we are here
at a special time of year
A time to put aside all things
And concentrate on cheer
A time to feel the joy
that Christmastime does bring
And across the land
church bells ring out
as a choir of angels sing
High up in the clouds above
They worship the King of Kings
So as we think about our families
The gifts, food and celebrations
Nothing at all is wrong with that
In all things moderation
Let’s join together as we light this tree
In a time of contemplation
On the real reasons for Christmas time
As acknowledged across all nations
A time when Jesus Christ was born
In a stable rough and crude
In order to bring us near to God
As a Saviour for me and you!
