9 Learning outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, studentsshould have the ability to:
(a) identify legal terminology and apply the rules ofstatutory interpretation in reading law (LO2-P1);
(b) describe the historical background of thepresent Malaysian legal system (LO6-P1); and
(c) discuss the sources of law and describe theprocess of enacting law (LO9-A2).
10 Transferable skills Students should be able to develop good writtenand interpersonal communication skills,teamwork, leadership and problem-solving skillsthrough a process of lectures and tutorials.
11 Teaching-Learning andAssessment Strategy
Teaching-learning strategy:The course will be taught through a combination of
formal lectures, exercises, group work, usingauthentic materials, informal activities and varioustextbooks. Practical experience and collaborativeteamwork will be fostered throughout the course.The use of examination and internal reportingassessment will assess the students ability to applytheoretical concepts in context.

12 Synopsis This course is intended to teach students thedifferent legal schools of thought, classifications oflaw and the terms and phrases that are commonlyused in law. Students will also be taught thehistorical background of the Malaysian legal systemand the sources of law including the FederalConstitution, statutes, common law, equity, judicialprecedents, Islamic law and customary laws.
