7 - Looking back at your preliminary task what do you feel you have learnt in the progression

from it to the full product?

• We were set a preliminary task in preparation for our final product. We had to demonstrate basic shots such as; match on action shot, eye line shot, insert shot and try not to break the 180 degree rule. When it came to shooting the task I learnt how to use a tripod whilst shooting to keep shots steady because without it the shots looked shaky and unprofessional. This allowed me to use panning shots whilst keeping the camera steady and secure. These basic skills were essential because I knew how to set up equipment and use it effectively.

• Looking back at the preliminary task there are areas that could be improved. For example I could have chose a better location to shoot the video in to reduce the amount of echo in the film which makes it sound a little unprofessional. Also I could have used a variety of creative shots such as high/low angles and use more effects/transitions between the shots when editing the movie to make it more interesting. On the whole, I think the preliminary task was suitable as I didn't break the 180 degree rule and demonstrated the basic and important camera shots required.

• Overall my skills have improved since the preliminary task as I applied more creative camera shots in my final product such as eye level, point of view shots and panning shots. I also learnt that mis en scene plays a big role and deliberately created dark, lowkey lighting to manipulate the mood of the viewer and to add to the atmosphere and create tension. I learnt that different colours could have different connotations for example black could be associated with mystery and evil.
