• Declining crop prices due to overproduction (deflation)
• Railroad monopolies
• Debt to banks

• National farm organization
• Worked to solve the problems of farmers
• Lobbied for laws to help farmers

• Cooperatives: nonprofit stores owned by farmers
• State laws setting maximum railroad rates, called “Granger Laws”
