Birth/Early Life He was born on June 26, 1974 in
Pequannock, NJ. Derek moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan when he was 4. During the summers he stayed with his grandparents in New Jersey. He would go with them to Yankee games. It was his favorite team.He went to Kalamazoo Central High School and played on the baseball and basketball varsity teams.
EducationHe graduated high school in 1992. He had a collage scholarship to the University of Michigan but instead was drafted by the Yankees and played four seasons in the Minor Leagues (1992-1995).
Adult Life/Career
Yankees shortstop Tony Fernandez got hurt so Derek got called up to the major leagues on May 29, 1995. He played his entire career with the Yankees. He led them to 5 World Series victories. He is considered one of the greatest players in baseball.

Impact on the World With all the money Derek made he
started the the Turn2 Foundation. It helps children and teena teenagers avoid drug and alcohol addiction. It also awards students who do well in high school.
He retired from baseball in 2014. He gave up his home in NYC. He currently has a home in Marlboro, NJ, Greenwood Lake, NY, and Tampa, FL. He started the website ThePlayersTribune.com. It is a site that helps players talk directly with fans. He is also opening a restaurant in the Tampa airport named after the website.
