The Scoop Dates: June 1st – June 4th (4 days, 3 nights)

What: 7th and 8th Grade Trip to Washington DC

Transportation: Motorcoach to and from the school

Cost: $475 per student

Tour Company: Go Educational Tours

What’s Included: All transportation, tour guides, 3 lunches, 3 dinners, 3 breakfasts in the hotel, lodging, admission to all sites and attractions, overnight security in the hotel, all taxes and gratuities

Itinerary: Monday, June 1st 6AM Student check-in at the school

6:30AM Buses pull out of parking lot and head to Washington DC

Lunch on route to Washington DC (students responsible for cost of lunch)

1:45PM Arrive in Washington DC and meet tour guides

2:00PM Head to the White House for walking tour around the home of the President since 1800.

2:45PM Walk to the National Mall from the White House. Head to the Smithsonian Museums.

As time permits, explore: The American History Museum The Natural History Museum The Air and Space Museum

5:30PM Leave for dinner at Buca di Peppo

7:15PM Monuments and Memorials Tour Part I

8:30PM Meet up with the Motorcoach to head to the hotel

9:00PM Arrive at the Comfort Inn and Suites Gunston (near Mt Vernon) Students will sleep 4 per room – rooms

assigned by staff Chaperones will sleep 2 per room Overnight Security will be provided by

tour company

10:00PM Settle in to hotel

7:30AM – 8:30AM Breakfast at the hotel 8:30AM Load buses and head to Arlington

Cemetery 9:30AM – 11:30AM Arlington National

Cemetery Observe the final resting place of those who have served our

nation with dignity and honor. See the hallowed Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, high atop a hill; and witness the beautiful & reverent ceremony of the Changing of the Guard, with the landscape of D.C. in the background. Pay your respects and see the eternal flame at the gravesite of U.S. President John F. Kennedy. Visit Arlington House, The Robert E. Lee Memorial.

12:00 – 1:00PM Lunch at Union Station Students will be given vouchers to choose from variety of

restaurants

1:15PM Walk to the U.S. Capitol Building Dive into the world of an American politician on a tour of the home of

Congress, the U.S. Capitol Building. Gather on the steps for a class photo.

3:00PM Head to the Library of Congress Take in the structural beauty and liturgical collection in the oldest federal

cultural institution in the United States.

3:45 Supreme Court Building Visit the Supreme Court building, the highest tribunal in the nation for all

cases and controversies arising under the Constitution or the laws of the United States.

4:45PM Monuments and Memorials Tour Part II Walk through the remaining monuments that are better seen during daylight

hours

7:00PM: Dinner at Mellow Mushroom

8:30PM Head back to hotel to swim and relax after a long day!

7:30 – 9AM Breakfast and load buses

9:30AM Arrive at the International Spy Museum Learn about spy techniques such as invisible ink, bugs,

microdots, buttonhole cameras, submarine recording systems, and disguises developed by Hollywood for the CIA

12:00PM – 1:00PM Lunch in the Ronald Reagan Building Meal vouchers provided so students can choose from

variety of restaurants

1:15PM Bureau of Printing and Engraving Learn all about US Currency and how money is made. See

millions of dollars being printed as you walk through the gallery

3:30PM Walk to the National Archives Building See the building that houses the US Constitution and the

Declaration of Independence

5:30PM Head to Dave and Busters for dinner and games

8:00PM Head back to the hotel to relax at the pool and go to bed!

8AM – 9:30AM Breakfast and Pack Up

10:00AM Mount Vernon Learn more about the life and legacy of George Washington at his

Mount Vernon estate.

12:15 – 1:15PM Lunch at Old Country Buffet Indulge in a home-style southern comfort meal, choosing between

a wide variety of delicious entrees, sides and desserts.

1:45PM Explore Old Town Alexandria

2:45PM Head back to Bradford Prep Stop for dinner along the way (students will pay for)

9:30PM is estimated time of arrival

Packing List Packing list (all items should be clearly labeled)

Navy blue uniform shirts for 4 days including one logo shirt

Sweatshirt or fleece

All necessary personal effects (toothbrush, toothpaste,facial cleansers…)

Swimsuit (modest)

Pajamas

Water Bottle

All meals will be provided with the exception of the meal on the way up and on the way back.

Do NOT send your child with cell phones, games, iPad, etc. We will have an emergency cell phone available in the event of an emergency and will keep parents up to date throughout the trip. Cameras will be allowed – digital or film.

Medications Please drop off ANY medication your child takes regularly to the front

office by May 25th.

All medication must be accompanied by a signed doctor’s note and a completed Medical Authorization Form available on our website or in the front office.

Any child requiring medication at any point throughout the day will need to have a signed doctors order and a clearly labeled prescription bottle. This also pertains to over the counter medications such as vitamins, nasal

spray, Tylenol, etc.

If you have any questions please email our school nurse at [email protected].

Your child will not be allowed to carry medicine with them during this trip. A staff member will be available during the trip to dispense any necessary medication.

NO MEDICATION WILL BE GIVEN WITHOUT A DOCTOR’S ORDER.

Chaperones 10 -12 staff members will be on hand as

chaperones including at least one member of the admin team

We can bring up to 13 parent chaperones on the trip. If you would like to chaperone, please email [email protected] by March 5th. If necessary, we will have a chaperone lottery to determine the chaperones

All chaperones must have a full background check through Bradford Prep

Chaperones will sleep two per hotel room
