Dormition of the
Theotokos
The Holy Scriptures tell us that when our
Lord was dying on the Cross, He saw His
mother and His disciple John and said to the
Virgin Mary, "Woman, behold your son!" and
to John, "Behold your mother!" (John 19:25-
27). From that hour, the Apostle took care of
the Theotokos in his own home.
Along with the biblical reference in Acts
2:14 that confirms that the Virgin Mary was
with the Holy Apostles on the day of
Pentecost, the tradition of the Church holds
that she remained in the home of the Apostle
John in Jerusalem, continuing a ministry in
word and deed.
At the time of her death, the disciples of
our Lord who were preaching throughout the
world returned to Jerusalem to see the
Theotokos. Except for the Apostle Thomas, all
of them including the Apostle Paul were
gathered together at her bedside. At the
moment of her death, Jesus Christ himself
descended and carried her soul into heaven.
Following her repose, the body of the
Theotokos was taken in procession and laid in
a tomb near the Garden of Gethsemane. When
the Apostle Thomas arrived three days after
her repose and desired to see her body, the
tomb was found to be empty. The bodily
assumption of the Theotokos was confirmed
by the message of an angel and by her
appearance to the Apostles.

Transfiguration of our Lord and Savior
Jesus Christ
Our Lord had spoken to His disciples many times
not only concerning His Passion, Cross, and Death,
but also concerning the coming persecutions and
afflictions that they themselves would endure.
Since all these evils were near at hand, but the
enjoyment of good things which they hoped to
receive in their stead was yet to come, our Savior
desired to give them full assurance, evidently and
openly, concerning that glory which is prepared for
those who endure to the end. Therefore, fulfilling
that which He had promised shortly before, that
"there be some standing here which shall not taste
of death, till they see the Son of man coming in His
Kingdom" (Matt. 16:28), He took His three
foremost disciples and ascended Mount Tabor,
where He was transfigured before them. His face
shone like the sun, and His clothes became white as
the light. Suddenly, together with this dread and
marvelous effulgence of light, there appeared those
pinnacles of the Prophets, Moses and Elias, who
spoke with the Lord Jesus concerning His saving
Passion which was about to take place. Standing
before Him as reverent servants, they showed that
He is the Lord of both the living and the dead, for
Moses came forth from Hades, having died many
centuries before, and Elias, as it were from heaven,
whither he had been taken up while yet alive. After
a little while a radiant cloud overshadowed them
and out of the cloud they heard that same voice
which had been heard at the Jordan at the Baptism
of Christ, testifying to the Divinity of Jesus and
saying: "This is My beloved Son, in Whom I am
well-pleased; hear ye Him" (Matt. 17: 5).

Axios! Congratulations to OCMC Missionary Fr. Stephanos Ritsi who was ordained to the
priesthood on June, 2019, in Albania by His Beatitude Archbishop Anastasios.
He is worthy! I Denje! Axios!
This past Sunday, June 9, 2019, Deacon Stephanos Ritsi was ordained to the Holy Priest-
hood. He was ordained by His Beatitude Archbishop Anastasios in the Resurrection of Christ
Cathedral in Tirana, Albania. This marked a major step in Father Stephanos's journey and
ministry as a missionary.
After growing up in the mission field, Fr. Stephanos has continued to be deeply involved in
missions throughout his life. He discerned his calling to long-term missionary service after
participating on a short-term mission team to Kenya. At that point, he applied to the Holy
Cross School of Theology and graduated with both his Master's of Divinity and Certificate in
Missions and Ecumenism.
Fr. Stephanos met his wife Alexandria there at the seminary. The two of them graduated in
2012 and set out to serve in Albania together in 2013.
Since then, the couple has worked diligently to support the Church in Albania. Fr. Stephanos
has served as the first deacon at the Cathedral in Tirana, taught missiology at the Resurrec-
tion of Christ Seminary in Durres, and helped in the office of the Archbishop - all while
pursing doctoral studies in Thessaloniki, Greece. Presbytera Alexandria teaches English at
Logos University and the Protagonist School, leads a group within the Spiritual Journey Cat-
echism program at the Protagonist School, works as one of the Church’s official photogra-
phers, and also hosts a regular radio show on Radio Ngjallja.
Between the two of them, Fr. Stephanos and Pres. Alexandria have an incredible amount of
talent, and they've been doing a lot of great work for the Church in Albania. We are excited
to celebrate Fr. Stephanos’s ordination with them, and we look forward to all the good work
they will continue to do!
Please keep Fr. Stephanos, Pres. Alexandria, and their family in your prayers. To stay up-to-
date with their news or donate to support them, visit the link below:

REQUEST FOR GREETERS
Dear Parishioners,
Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God. Romans 15:7
Our wonderful greeter, Marge Adams, has moved to be near her family in Pennsylvania. We are very grate-ful and inspired by Marge, as she greeted and welcomed our parishioners and visitors, and we thank her for all the years she faithfully served on our Greeter Ministry, since 2013. We wish Marge all the best in her fu-ture home and surroundings. She will be greatly missed by all of us. We hope and pray that she will join us from time to time, which she has promised to do.
Please join us as we continue this meaningful ministry, creating more wonderful, first, and continuing impres-sions. The Great Commission of our Lord begins with us, as greeters, as we welcome everyone, sharing the love of Christ.
If anyone would like to join our wonderful Greeter Ministry, please speak to Ginny Kramvis or email [email protected]
