LET US PRAY THE ROSARY!

The challenges our world is facing, as well as our beloved Church, call us to DO something! The best remedy, need-less to say, is prayer. We will pray the holy Rosary at 10:30 AM each Sunday in the Chapel. The Rosary is a very pow-erful sacramental. When Our Lady appeared to the chil-dren at Fatima she told them: “There is no problem, I tell you, no matter how difficult it is, that we cannot resolve by the prayer of the Holy Rosary.” So, come join us here at St. John’s each Sunday as we pray the Rosary for peace and an end to strife in our world, our Church, our city, and our homes.

Icon Presentation This Weekend!

Jack Pachuta, a member of St. John’s parish and ico-nographer, will present a talk on icons this Sunday, March 17 at 12:45 here in Church. He will speak about his icons which are on exhibit in Church and will describe the actual technique of writing an icon. This promises to be a most enlightening talk. All are welcome to attend!

EMMAUS JOURNEY LENTEN GATHERINGSThe Gospel readings during the beautiful season of Lent are so rich with God’s message to us that, like the men on the road to Emmaus, we too need to hear again how God’s Word impacts our lives. Please consider attending a small group sharing every Wednes-day during Lent at 7 p.m.. Each week a group discussion on the following Sunday’s readings will be explored with relevance to our lives today.

Meetings will be facilitated by Ann Swierkiewicz and Sister Marganne

at the home of Ann and Akos Swierkiewicz87 McConkey Drive

Washington Crossing, PA 18977

Flyers and sign-up sheets are available in the Church vestibule.

The official 2019 Catholic Charities Appeal is underway! Programs and services provided by Catholic Charities benefit because of the outstanding generosity of many caring individu-als. The goal this year is 12.5 million dollars and the theme for the 2019 Appeal is “Help your neighbor find HOPE.” Saint Faustina Kowalska, a 20th century Polish nun who received visions of Jesus and inspired the Church's devotion to Divine Mercy, is the patron saint of this year’s Catholic Chari-ties campaign. More information and donation materials are available in the vestibule of the Church. May God bless you for your generous spirit!

FAST AND ABSTINENCEAND OTHER ACTS OF PENANCE FOR 2019

The Bishops of the United States prescribe, as mimimal obligation, that all persons who are 14 years of age and older are bound to abstain from eating meat on Ash Wednesday, March 6, 2019, on all Fridays of Lent and Good Friday. Fur-ther, all persons 18 years of age and older, up to and including their 59th birthday, are bound to fast by limiting themselves to a single full meal on Ash Wednesday and on Good Friday, while the other two meals on those days are to be light.

All the faithful are encouraged, when possible, to par-ticipate at Mass and to receive the Holy Eucharist daily, to celebrate frequently the Sacrament of Penance, to undertake spiritiual reading, especially the study of Sacred Scriptures, and to participate in parish Lenten devotions as well as Lent-en education programs. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is especially recommended.

All are encouraged to participate in Operation Rice Bowl, which has aided countless hungry persons here in the Arch-diocese as well as throughout our nation and our world.

What Bartimaeus Can Show Me!No doubt we are all quite familiar with the story about Bartimaeus in the Gospel of Mark and the wonder-ful miracle that Jesus performed for this blind person. Well, do you think Bartimaeus has something he needs or wants to tell each one of us during the Season of Lent? Plan to join Sister Marganne, our presenter, here at St. John’s on the following Mondays: March 25, and April 1. Each one-hour session will be held in the Pastoral Life Center beginning at 1 p.m. and repeated again at 7 p.m. All are welcome – so why not come and SEE!

Our monthly food drive for March will be taken up this weekend. Blessings to all for helping the needy in our community!

Mrs. Deborah Purowitz

HEALTH AWARENESSIf you are an organ donor or know of someone in need of an organ donation, please contact:

Jefferson Hospital - 1-800-Jeff-now National Kidney Registry: www.kidneyregistry.org

It is with pleasure that I introduce our third CONFIRMATION teacher; namely, Mrs. Deborah Purowitz heeds the message of the Risen Lord to go out and teach all the message of the Gospel. There is so much love for the Catholic faith that Deborah brings to her students that they cannot help but understand the importance of their receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation. She and her hus-band Mark celebrated their 31th wedding anniversary this summer. St. John the Evangelist has been their church home since moving to Morrisville 27 years ago. They have two sons: Michael and Jonathan. All of the sixth grade teachers work together and follow the same curriculum. They find it helps our 6th grade families. Email updates are sent to the parents informing them of the weekly assignments and of the material that was covered in class. Should a student need to miss a class on Sunday, for example, they complete the assignments that the teacher provides with these weekly emails to the parents. This enables them to be right on track with the other students. This year, the teachers of all sixth grade classes continue to incorporate from the Ascension Press video series: CHOSEN into the existing curriculum. The catechists delve into the Old Testament to learn the importance of the tenets of this sacrament. Sixth grade curriculum focuses on Confirmation preparation. Be-cause the sacrament will be received in the seventh grade, the cat-echists have more time to present the theme: “Walk in the Footsteps of Jesus.” The Person of Jesus is explored and taught as a study of the life of Christ (from the Annunciation to Pentecost) and to show how everything we do as Catholic Christians comes back to Him – the sacraments, the Mass, works of mercy, everything! Mrs. Purowitz has found the most rewarding experience for our student scholars is for them to undertake the Confirmation service projects. This will continue in Grade 7 and the service projects are meant to empower our young people. Through their hands-on par-ticipation in helping others, students understand that they really can make a difference in the world! She wants all students to continue to grow and practice their Catholic faith. It’s a life-long journey for all of us. Over the years, the sixth graders have chosen to help “veterans, nursing home and cancer patients, inner-city and special needs children, the homeless, the hungry, as well as family, friends and neighbors.” Mrs. Purowitz’s classes are energized by her witnessing this same faith that she wants her student to understand and love. She belongs to the parish faith-sharing groups. Mrs. Purowitz is always ready to go that extra mile to clarify the tenets of faith that the sixth grade students are required to understand. She is instrumental is assisting in generating a Confirmation curriculum that will span Grade 6 and Grade 7. We are so grateful for all her dedicated work.

Whoever makes himself lowly, becoming like this little child, is of greatest importance in that heavenly reign."Matthew 18:1-5

Adopt-A-Family for Easter St. John the Evangelist Knights of Columbus Council 7515 is happy to announce the “Adopt-A-Family” program for food dona-tions for this year’s Easter Food Baskets. Here is how the program works:• During the weekends of March 23 – 24 and March 30 - 31 the Knights of Columbus will have a table in the vestibule of the Church. At the table we will have a list of the families that can be adopted.• If you would like to Adopt-A-Family, simply decide the size fam-ily for which you would like to provide dinner (we have families that range in size from 1 to 15 people) and come to the table. • We will then help you select a family from our list of about 100 families. We will also provide a list of suggested items to pur-chase. The Knights of Columbus will provide a ham and bread.• You bring your food to the school before and after the Masses the weekends of April 6 – 7 and April 13 – 14. It would be great if you could put your food in boxes. Thanks for supporting this activity. Please contact Tom Rossi (215.295.1654) if you have any questions or if you know of any families that may need some assistance this year.
