The Knights of Columbus are sponsoring a Red Cross Blood Drive TODAY, Sunday, June 5 from 8:45 am-1 pm in our Par-ish Center. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Avoid hot/iced tea. Individuals 16 and older may donate with written parental permis-sion. Help us save lives...it just takes about an hour. There will be a random drawing for $100 in tuition assistance for St. Ann School parents who give blood.

June 5: Dynamic Catholic, Alive! – Divine Power The raising of the widow’s son helps us understand the person of Christ, who is true God and true man (two natures united in one per-son). This miracle shows that Christ has power over nature, while

pointing towards Christ’s resurrection and the general resurrection. Through His passion, death has been transformed by Christ. We can also rise from spiritual death through the Sacrament of Reconciliation, especially during this Year of Mercy. Have you experienced rising from spiritual death into life? archstl.org/dynamic

From the Pastor’s Pen: Of many things… For some people, the way to their heart is through their stomach. For me, it has always been my ears. I remem-ber crying one night on a drive home when I heard the Celtic Women’s version of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” the first time. It was so incredibly beautiful. Music has always had that power over me. I was one of the few boys in my grade school choir. My brothers would make fun of me for singing while I was doing the dishes. I took up guitar so that I could accompany myself and others in that favorite pastime of singing. And I am heir to a huge gift liturgically here at St. Ann in our various choirs. I close my eyes and I can still hear the 11 am choir singing that old spiritual: “Over my head, I hear music in the air; there must be a God somewhere!” For so I do – I hear the music and know the goodness of God. For 16 years, the parish family of St. Ann has been blessed with an amazing volunteer choir. And an even more amaz-ing volunteer Choir Director – Mrs. Kathy Reid. The ener-gy and enthusiasm and prayer she brings forth from the choir as they lead us in sacred song simply takes my breath away. How well you sing with them brings a smile to my heart. And the things she has our Children’s choir doing is equally outstanding. She is an example of what happens when you let God use you. And, after 16 years, she is stepping down from that role of 11 a.m. volunteer Choir Director at the end of this month. That will be a huge director’s wand to fill. I have begun a search process. Part time choir directors are not always the easiest to find. In the short term, Mrs. Kate Garrett and Ms. Catherine Tobben will be filling in on most of the Sundays in June. There will be some times when Don Muckerman and Barbara Jackson will be filling in. Yet, I do trust that God is preparing exactly the right person to step into this role. Just as He has with new prin-cipals and new secretaries and new teachers and every-thing that has been necessary to keep this parish alive and growing and vibrant. I will work with Fr. Winker throughout the process, and, God willing, we will have another amaz-ing director in place soon… Kathy, from the bottom of this pastor’s heart – thank you for your years of service. What a gift you have been to all of us!!!

There will be a soccer camp for boys and girls of the par-ish ages 5-12 this summer, at Heman Park in University City, June 27 through June 30, from 6 pm until 8 pm. For more information please contact Marty at 314-393-1164

The Men’s Club’s 29th annual golf tournament is sched-uled for Saturday, June 18th. Check-in is at 12:30, 1:30 shotgun start. Registration forms are on the table in the back of church. The cost is $100 per person and includes lunch, golf, cart, dinner, prizes, beer, soda, and water prior to and during your round. Please consider sponsoring a hole ($100.) Questions, contact Charlie Giraud (799-5799 or [email protected]) or Patrick Britt (591-9457 or [email protected].)

ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL: We are trying to finalize the ACA drive for 2016. Because we must return all cars to the Archdiocese, we have mailed the ACA cards to parishioners who did not pick up their card. Please return the card as soon as possible. If you are unable to contribute this year, you may just indicate that on the card and sign it. Return the card to the rectory or you may drop it in the Sunday collection basket. If you did not get a card and want one mailed to you, please call the rectory (314-385-5090). Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
