Product InformationPursuit® herbicide is a soluble liquid herbicide tocontrol and suppress many broadleaf and grassweeds and sedges, as listed in this label.Pursuit kills weeds by root and/or foliage uptakeand rapid translocation to growing points.Adequate soil moisture is important for optimumPursuit activity. When adequate soil moisture ispresent, Pursuit provides residual control of sus-ceptible germinating weeds; activity on estab-lished weeds depends on weed species andlocation of its root system in the soil.Occasionally, internode shortening and/or tempo-rary yellowing of crop plants may occur afterPursuit application. These effects occur infre-quently and are temporary. Normal growth andappearance should resume within 1 to 2 weeks. When organophosphate (such as Lorsban®

insecticide) or carbamate insecticides are tankmixed with Pursuit, temporary injury may result tothe treated crops.Use of Pursuit is expected to result in normalgrowth of rotational crops in most situations; how-ever, various environmental and agronomic factorsmake it impossible to eliminate all risks associatedwith use of this product and, therefore, rotationalcrop injury is always possible. Under some condi-

tions (such as heavy texture soil, high organic mat-ter, low pH, or low rainfall), Pursuit may causeinjury to subsequent planted crops. Vegetablecrops and particularly sugar beets are sensitive toPursuit residue in the soil.

ReplantingIf replanting is necessary in a field previously treat-ed with Pursuit, the field may be replanted to anylabeled crop for this product. Rework the soil nodeeper than the treated zone. DO NOT apply asecond treatment of Pursuit.

Resistance ManagementNaturally occurring biotypes* of some weeds listedon this label may not be effectively controlled bythis and/or other products with the ALS/AHASenzyme-inhibiting mode of action. Other herbicideswith the ALS/AHAS enzyme-inhibiting mode ofaction include sulfonylureas (e.g. Accent®

herbicide), imidazolinones (e.g. Beyond®

herbicide, Raptor® herbicide), triazolopyrimidine sulfoanilides (e.g. FirstRate® herbicide), sulfonylaminocarbonyl triazolinones, and pyrimidyl benzoates. If naturally occurring ALS/AHAS-resistant biotypes are present in a field, Pursuit and/or anyother ALS/AHAS enzyme-inhibiting mode-of-actionherbicide should be tank mixed or appliedsequentially with an appropriate registered herbicidehaving a different mode of action to ensure control.* A weed biotype is a naturally occurring plant

within a given species that has a slightly different, but distinct, genetic makeup from other plants.

Use Area RestrictionIn New York State - Not for Sale or Use onLong Island.

Mixing InstructionsPostemergence applications of Pursuit requirethe addition of an adjuvant AND a nitrogen fertiliz-er solution.NOTE: Fertilizer solutions may not be used inCalifornia.

AdjuvantsWhen an adjuvant (or specific adjuvant product, such as a drift control agent) is to be used with thisproduct, the use of a Chemical Producers andDistributors Association (CPDA) certified adjuvantis recommended.Crop Oil Concentrate (COC). Petroleum-basedor vegetable seed-based oil concentrate may beused. Methylated seed oil (MSO) is recommendedwhen weeds are under moisture or temperaturestress. Use methylated seed oil at 1.0% volume/volume (v/v) (1 gallon per 100 gallons of spray solu-tion), or use crop oil concentrate at 1.25% v/v(1.25 gallons per 100 gallons of spray solution). DONOT include COC when applying Pursuit®

herbicide to edible legume vegetable crops.OR

Surfactant. Use nonionic surfactant (NIS) con-taining at least 80% active ingredient. Apply sur-factant at 0.25% v/v (1 quart per 100 gallons ofspray solution). An organosilicone surfactant or drysurfactant may be used in place of NIS.

AND(all states except California)

Fertilizer Solution. Recommended nitrogen-based fertilizers including liquid fertilizers (such as28%N, 32%N, or 10-34-0) may be applied at 1.25to 2.5 gallons per 100 gallons of spray solution. Usethe higher rate when weeds are under moisture ortemperature stress. Instead of liquid fertilizer, spraygrade ammonium sulfate (AMS) may be used at12 to 15 lbs per 100 gallons of spray solution.NOTE: Fertilizer solution is not required in Pursuitapplications in use areas south of InterstateHighway 40, except in the states of New Mexico,Oklahoma, and Texas.

Tank Mix InstructionsWhen applying Pursuit as the only herbicide:1. Fill spray tank 1/2 full with clean water.2. Use a calibrated device to measure the required

amount of Pursuit. While agitating, addPursuit to the spray tank.

3. Add adjuvants.

4. Fill remainder of spray tank with water. If other herbicides or other spray tank componentsare tank mixed with Pursuit, while agitating, addcomponents in the following order and thoroughlymix after adding each component.1. Fill spray tank 1/2 full with clean water.2. Add soluble packet products and thoroughly mix.3. Add WP (wettable powder), DG (dispersible

granule), DF (dry flowable), or liquid flowable for-mulations not in soluble packets.

4. Add Pursuit and thoroughly mix.5. Add other aqueous solution products.6. Add EC (emulsifiable concentrate) products.7. Add surfactant or crop oil to the spray tank.8. Add liquid fertilizer.9. While agitating, fill the remainder of the tank

with water. When Pursuit is used in combination with anotherherbicide, refer to the respective label for rates, methods of application, proper timing, weeds con-trolled, restrictions, and precautions. Always use inaccordance with the most restrictive label restric-tions and precautions. DO NOT exceed labelrates. Pursuit cannot be mixed with any productcontaining a label prohibiting such mixtures.

Cleaning Spray EquipmentTo avoid injury to sensitive crops, spray equipmentused for Pursuit applications must be drainedand thoroughly cleaned with water before beingused to apply other products.

Spraying InstructionsDO NOT apply when wind velocity is greater than10 mph, or when spray may be carried to sensitivecrops. Pursuit should only be applied when thepotential for drift to adjacent sensitive areas (e.g.residential areas, bodies of water, known habitatfor threatened or endangered species, or nontar-get crops) is minimal (e.g. when wind is blowingaway from the sensitive areas).

Ground ApplicationUniformly apply with properly calibrated groundequipment in 10 or more gallons of water per acre.A spray pressure of 20 to 40 PSI is recommended. To ensure thorough coverage, use a minimum of20 gallons of water per acre when applyingPursuit® herbicide to minimum tillage or no-tillcrops. Use higher gallonage for fields with densevegetation or heavy crop residue. Adjust the boomheight to ensure proper coverage of weed foliage (according to manufacturer’s recommendation).Use only flat-fan nozzle tips for post emergenceapplications. Avoid overlaps when spraying.

Aerial ApplicationPursuit may be applied by air to crops listed inthis label unless otherwise noted.Uniformly apply with properly calibrated aerialequipment in 5 or more gallons of water per acre. When applied postemergence, the addition ofNIS AND fertilizer solution are required for opti-mum weed control. Apply NIS at 1 quart per100 gallons of spray solution OR COC at 1.25 gal-lons per 100 gallons of spray solution AND a liquidfertilizer at 1.25 gallons per 100 gallons of spraysolution. See Postemergence in ApplicationInformation section.Avoiding spray drift at the application site is theresponsibility of the applicator. The interaction ofmany equipment-related and weather-related fac-tors determines the potential for spray drift. Theapplicator and the grower are responsible for con-sidering all these factors when making decisions. The following drift management requirements mustbe followed to avoid off-target drift movement fromaerial applications to agricultural field crops.1. The distance of the outermost nozzles on the

boom must not exceed 3/4 the length of thewingspan or rotor.

2. Nozzles must always point backward parallelwith the airstream and never be pointed down-ward more than 45 degrees.

Where states have more stringent regulations, they must be observed. The applicator must be familiar with and take intoaccount the information covered in the followingaerial drift reduction advisory information.

Information on Droplet SizeThe most effective way to reduce drift potential isto apply large droplets. The best drift managementstrategy is to apply the largest droplets that pro-vide sufficient coverage and control. Applying larg-er droplets reduces drift potential but will notprevent drift if applications are made improperly orunder unfavorable environmental conditions (seeWind; Temperature and Humidity; andTemperature Inversions).

Controlling droplet size:• Volume - Use high flow rate nozzles to apply the

highest practical spray volume. Nozzles withhigher rated flows produce larger droplets.

• Pressure - DO NOT exceed the nozzle manu-facturer’s recommended pressures. For manynozzle types, lower pressure produces largerdroplets. When higher flow rates are needed, use higher flow rate nozzles instead of increas-ing pressure.

• Number of Nozzles - Use the minimum num-ber of nozzles that provide uniform coverage.

• Nozzle Orientation - Orienting nozzles so thespray is released parallel to the airstream pro-duces larger droplets than other orientations andis recommended practice. Significant deflectionfrom the horizontal will reduce droplet size andincrease drift potential.

• Nozzle Type - Use a nozzle type designed forthe intended application. With most nozzletypes, narrower spray angles produce largerdroplets. Consider using low-drift nozzles. Solid-stream nozzles oriented straight back producethe largest droplets and lowest drift.

Page 8: 76529 book art.qxp layout - Washington State University For use on alfalfa, beans and peas, birdsfoot trefoil, clover, edamame, peanut, and soybean Active Ingredient: ammonium salt

Boom LengthFor some use patterns, reducing the effectiveboom length to less than 3/4 of the wingspan orrotor length may further reduce drift withoutreducing swath width.

Application HeightApplication must not be made at a height greaterthan 10 feet above the top of the largest plantsunless a greater height is required for aircraft safe-ty. Making applications at the lowest height that issafe reduces exposure of droplets to evaporationand wind.

Swath AdjustmentWhen applications are made with a crosswind, the swath will be displaced downwind. Therefore,on the upwind and downwind edges of the field, the applicator must compensate for this displace-ment by adjusting the path of the aircraft upwind.Swath adjustment distance should increase withincreasing drift potential (higher wind, smallerdroplets, etc.).

WindDrift potential is lowest between wind speeds of 2to 10 mph. However, many factors, includingdroplet size and equipment type, determine driftpotential at any given speed. Application shouldbe avoided below 2 mph because of variable winddirection and high inversion potential.NOTE: Local terrain can influence wind patterns.Every applicator should be familiar with local windpatterns and how they affect spray drift.

Temperature and HumidityWhen making applications in low relative humidity, set up equipment to produce larger droplets tocompensate for evaporation. Droplet evaporation ismost severe when conditions are both hot and dry.

Temperature InversionsApplications should not occur during a tempera-ture inversion because drift potential is high.Temperature inversions restrict vertical air mixing,

which causes small suspended droplets to remainin a concentrated cloud. This cloud can move inunpredictable directions because of the light, vari-able winds common during inversions. Temperatureinversions are characterized by increasing tempera-tures with altitude and are common on nights withlimited cloud cover and light-to-no wind. They beginto form as the sun sets and often continue into themorning. Their presence can be indicated by groundfog; however, if fog is not present, inversions canalso be identified by the movement of smoke from aground source or an aircraft smoke generator.Smoke that layers and moves laterally in a concen-trated cloud (under low wind conditions) indicates aninversion, while smoke that moves upward and rap-idly dissipates indicates good vertical air mixing.

Sensitive AreasPursuit® herbicide should only be applied whenthe potential for drift to adjacent sensitive areas(e.g. residential areas, bodies of water, knownhabitat for threatened or endangered species, ornontarget crops) is minimal (e.g. when wind isblowing away from the sensitive areas).

Applicator is responsible for any loss or damagewhich results from spraying Pursuit in a mannerother than recommended in this label. In addition, applicator must follow all applicable state and localregulations and ordinances in regard to spraying.

Application InformationPursuit may be applied as a preplant, preplantincorporated, preemergence, or postemergencespray. Refer to Use-specific Information forapplication recommendations and restrictions.

Preplant IncorporatedApply Pursuit following land preparation andthoroughly incorporate to a depth of 1 to2 inches. If crops are planted on beds, apply andincorporate after bed formation using PTO-drivenequipment or a rolling cultivator. Maintain Pursuitin the surface 1 to 2 inches of the finished beds.

Page 9: 76529 book art.qxp layout - Washington State University For use on alfalfa, beans and peas, birdsfoot trefoil, clover, edamame, peanut, and soybean Active Ingredient: ammonium salt

Application may be made up to 45 days beforeplanting soybeans. When Pursuit® herbicide is soil applied to con-trol nutsedge in peanuts, incorporate with twopasses of the incorporation implement. Make thesecond pass at an offset angle to the first pass tominimize potential for streaking.

Preemergence (Surface)Use Pursuit in all production tillage systems. Itcan be applied before planting (up to 45 daysbefore planting); at planting in conventional, mini-mum tillage, or no-till production systems; or afterplanting and before crop emergence.

No-till or Minimum TillageApply Pursuit treatments before, during, or afterplanting. To ensure thorough coverage, use a min-imum of 20 gallons of water per acre. Use highergallonage for fields with dense vegetation or heavycrop residue. For maximum grass control, tank mix Pursuit withOutlook® herbicide, Prowl® H2O herbicide, orZidua® herbicide. To kill existing vegetation, glyphosate or 2,4-D (early preplant; see 2,4-Dlabel for limitations) may be tank mixed withPursuit alone or in combination with Outlook,Prowl H2O, or Zidua. Remove glyphosate or 2,4-Dfrom the tank mixture if vegetation is absent at thetime of application.NOTE: Adjust planters to ensure adequate soilcoverage of seed.

Soil ApplicationPursuit provides effective weed control in conser-vation tillage systems designed to meet conserva-tion compliance requirements. Pursuit can beapplied as an early preplant, preplant incorporat-ed, or preemergence treatment in soybeans. It canalso be applied in conventional, minimum tillage, and no-till production systems. The applicationmethod of choice depends on the anticipatedweed spectrum and preference of the applicator.

Adequate soil moisture is required for optimumactivity. Rainfall or overhead irrigation is necessaryto move Pursuit into the weed germination zone. The amount of rainfall or irrigation required follow-ing application depends on existing soil moisture, soil texture, and organic matter content. Sufficientwater to moisten soil to a depth of 2 inches is nor-mally adequate. If adequate moisture is notreceived within 7 days after treatment, cultivationis recommended to control escaped weeds. When adequate moisture is received after dry con-ditions, Pursuit provides residual control of sus-ceptible germinating weeds; activity on establishedweeds depends on weed species and location ofits root system in the soil.Pursuit controls weeds by uptake by weed rootsand translocation to the growing points where itstops weed growth. Susceptible weeds mayemerge; growth will stop; and weeds will die or arenot competitive with the crop.

Soil Application with LiquidFertilizerPursuit can be applied to the soil in liquid fertiliz-ers, alone, or in combination with Outlook orProwl H2O to soybean. Mixtures including triflu-ralin may be applied to soybean only. Follow allPursuit label recommendations about incorpora-tion, timing of application, special instructions, andprecautions. Apply treatments in 20 or more gal-lons of liquid fertilizer per acre with ground equip-ment. Always test the compatibility of Pursuit withthe liquid fertilizer before mixing in the spray tank.

PostemergencePursuit is effective in controlling weeds in conser-vation tillage as well as in conventional productionsystems. Apply Pursuit as an early post -emergence treatment when crops and weeds areactively growing and before weeds are more than3-inches tall, unless otherwise indicated. Delayapplication until the majority of weeds are at thespecified growth stage. Base application timing onweed size and not crop growth stage.

An adjuvant (crop oil concentrate or surfactant)and nitrogen-based fertilizer must be added to thespray solution for optimum weed control activity.See Adjuvants section in Mixing Instructionsfor specific instructions. When Pursuit® herbicide is applied post -emergence, absorption will occur through bothroots and foliage. Susceptible weeds stop grow-ing and die or are not competitive with the crop.Pursuit not only controls many existing broadleafand grass weeds when applied post emergence, italso controls susceptible weeds that may emergeafter application.Unusually cool temperatures (50° F or less) reducephotosynthesis and transpiration and thus reduceuptake, translocation, and efficacy of Pursuit inweeds. Delaying a Pursuit application for48 hours from the time temperature increasesabove 50° F, if air temperature has been below50° F for 10 or more hours, will improve weedcontrol and reduce crop response. For maximum weed control, cultivate 7 to 10 daysafter a post emergence Pursuit application. Thistimely cultivation will enhance residual weed con-trol, especially under dry conditions.Apply Pursuit a minimum of 1 hour before rainfallor overhead irrigation.

No-till or Minimum Tillage andDouble Crop SoybeansPursuit controls existing weeds and providesresidual control of most weeds when applied earlypost emergence in no-till or minimum tillage soy-bean and double crop soybean production sys-tems. Apply before or after emergence of the crop.Refer to postemergence application information inWeeds Controlled (Soybean) tables for weedscontrolled and specified weed size.If Pursuit is applied before emergence of the crop, and weeds exceed the specified size, add a con-tact herbicide to Pursuit to enhance control. Seeinstructions for No-till or Minimum Tillage in thePreemergence (Surface) section of this label.

Use-specific Information

Alfalfa and Clover

Application InstructionsApply Pursuit postemergence only at 3 to 6 flozs/A to seedling or established alfalfa or clovergrown for forage, hay, or seed.• Seedling Alfalfa or Clover. Pursuit must be

applied postemergence to seedling alfalfa orclover. Apply Pursuit when seedling alfalfa orclover is in the second trifoliate stage or larger andwhen the majority of weeds are 1 to 3 inches. When applied to alfalfa or clover grown for seed, apply Pursuit before bud formation. For low-growing weeds (such as mustard), apply Pursuitbefore the rosette exceeds 3 inches. WhenPursuit is applied to seedling alfalfa or clover, there may be a temporary reduction in growth.

• Established Alfalfa or Clover. Pursuit can beapplied to established alfalfa or clover in the fall, inthe spring to dormant or semi-dormant alfalfa orclover (less than 3 inches of regrowth), orbetween cuttings. Make any application beforesignificant alfalfa or clover growth or regrowth(3 inches) to allow Pursuit to reach target weeds.

Pursuit is effective in controlling a broad spec-trum of broadleaf and grass weeds. Alfalfa andclover are tolerant to post emergence applicationsof Pursuit after the second trifoliate leaf hasexpanded. Minor height reduction or slight leaf yel-lowing may occur soon after application.Apply Pursuit as an early post emergence treat-ment when weeds are actively growing. Weedsare generally easier to control before they exceed3 inches in height. Weeds under stress are lesssusceptible to control in cold or drought stressconditions. If applied to alfalfa or clover under cool conditions(40° F or less), temporary stunting and yellowing ofthe crop may occur.

Stand EstablishmentApply Pursuit® herbicide after the alfalfa orclover has 2 fully expanded trifoliate leaves.Weeds must not exceed the size listed in theWeeds Controlled (Alfalfa and Clover) tables.Pursuit may be applied to summer-seeded, fall-seeded, or spring-seeded alfalfa or clover.

Inter-seeded OatsOats inter-seeded with alfalfa or clover will reducesoil erosion and allow alfalfa or clover to establish.Oats, however, can compete with alfalfa or clover. An application of Pursuit will kill or significantlyreduce the growth of oats and allow alfalfa orclover to establish with minimal erosion or compe-tition from oats. Apply Pursuit to oats when oatshave 3 to 4 leaves.

Dormant Established Alfalfa orCloverPursuit may be applied to dormant alfalfa orclover in the fall following the last cutting. Pursuitmay also be applied in the spring to dormant alfal-fa or clover or as alfalfa or clover breaks dorman-cy. Apply spring treatments before excessivealfalfa or clover growth (less than 3 inches) toreduce spray interference.

Growing Established Alfalfa orCloverFor weed control during the season, applyPursuit following alfalfa or clover cutting. Removehay from the field and apply Pursuit before exces-sive alfalfa or clover regrowth.

Perennial Grass SuppressionIf perennial grass (such as orchardgrass, fescue, brome, or timothy) is present in an alfalfa or cloverstand, Pursuit will reduce the growth and com-petitive effect of the grass.

Crop-specific Restrictions• A maximum of 6 fl ozs/A of Pursuit (0.094 lb

ae/A of imazethapyr) may be applied per year toalfalfa or clover.

• DO NOT apply Pursuit at more than 4 fl ozs/Ain North Dakota or Minnesota north of Highway#210.

• DO NOT apply more than 4 fl ozs/A of Pursuitto alfalfa or clover during the last year of thestand.

• DO NOT feed, graze, or harvest alfalfa or cloverfor 30 days following an application of Pursuit toalfalfa or clover.

• Replanting - If replanting is necessary in a fieldpreviously treated with Pursuit, DO NOT plantalfalfa or clover for 4 months after Pursuit appli-cation. Refer to Rotational Crop Restrictionssection for plant-back interval of various crops.

Weeds ControlledWhen applied as directed, Pursuit will control orreduce competition from the following weeds.Refer to Mixing Instructions section for additiverecommendations when weeds are at the maxi-mum specified growth stage or are under stress.NOTE: R = Reduced Competition** Suppressed by Pursuit. For best results, apply

before weeds exceed size indicated in the follow-ing table.

Grass Weeds1 and Sedges (continued)1 Pursuit® herbicide is active against many grass

species. However, when heavy grass pressure isanticipated, use Pursuit in a sequential applica-tion with a registered post emergence grass her-bicide such as Poast® herbicide for optimum control.

2 Pursuit controls emerged woolly cupgrass only.3 Quackgrass will be suppressed only when

actively growing and before it exceeds 7 inchesin height.

Tank Mix HerbicidesTo control weeds not listed on the Pursuit label,Pursuit may be tank mixed with other approvedherbicides. When Pursuit is used in combinationwith another herbicide, refer to the respective labelfor rates, methods of application, proper timing, weeds controlled, restrictions, and precautions.Always use in accordance with the most restrictivelabel restrictions and precautions. DO NOTexceed label rates.

Birdsfoot Trefoil

Application InstructionsApply Pursuit postemergence only at 4 fl ozs/A toseedling or established birdsfoot trefoil grown forforage or hay. Apply Pursuit to birdsfoot trefoilwith nonionic surfactant (NIS) and urea ammoniumnitrate (UAN) or ammonium sulfate (AMS) only.DO  NOT use crop oil concentrate (COC) ormethylated seed oil (MSO) in place of NIS whenapplying Pursuit to birdsfoot trefoil.• Seedling Birdsfoot Trefoil. Pursuit must be

applied postemergence to seedling birdsfoot tre-foil. Apply Pursuit when seedling birdsfoot trefoilis in the third trifoliate stage or larger and whenthe majority of weeds are 1 to 3 inches. For low-growing weeds (such as mustard), apply Pursuitbefore the rosette exceeds 3 inches. WhenPursuit is applied to seedling birdsfoot trefoil, there may be a temporary reduction in growth.

• Established Birdsfoot Trefoil. Pursuit can beapplied to established birdsfoot trefoil in the fall, inthe spring to dormant or semi-dormant birdsfoottrefoil (less than 3 inches of regrowth), or betweencuttings. Make any application before significantbirdsfoot trefoil growth or regrowth (3 inches) toallow Pursuit to reach target weeds.

Pursuit is effective in controlling a broad spec-trum of broadleaf and grass weeds. Crop-specific Restrictions• A maximum of 4 fl ozs/A of Pursuit® herbicide

(0.063 lb ae/A of imazethapyr) may be appliedper year to birdsfoot trefoil.

• DO NOT feed, graze, or harvest birdsfoot trefoilfor 30 days following an application of Pursuit tobirdsfoot trefoil.

• Replanting - If replanting is necessary in a fieldpreviously treated with Pursuit, DO NOT plantbirdsfoot trefoil for 4 months following a Pursuitapplication. Refer to the Rotational CropRestrictions section on this label for plant-backinterval of various crops.

• Not for use in California.

Weeds ControlledRefer to list of weeds controlled at the 4 fl ozs/Arate in Alfalfa and Clover in Use-specificInformation section on this label.

Pursuit is effective in controlling many annualbroadleaf and grass weeds in ConservationReserve Program (CRP) and Agricultural ReserveProgram (set-aside) land seeded to forage legumecover crops: alfalfa, birdsfoot trefoil, clover, crownvetch, kudzu, lespedeza, lupin, milk vetch, sain-foin, trefoil, velvet bean, and vetch.NOTE: Cover crops may also be planted intofields previously treated with Pursuit for weedcontrol in soybeans. In this case, DO NOT applyPursuit to the cover crop until the followingspring.Pursuit application may result in temporaryreduction in growth of legumes. Plants overcometemporary effects and become well establishedbecause of reduced weed competition.

Pursuit may be applied postemergence at4 fl ozs/A to seedling legumes (with at least 3 fullyexpanded trifoliate leaves) or to establishedlegumes. On established legumes, Pursuit maybe applied in the fall or spring before weedsexceed the maximum specified size for control.DO NOT make more than one application ofPursuit per year.Refer to Soybean section in Use-specificInformation for weeds controlled.

Edamame(Vegetable Soybean)

Application InstructionsPursuit use on edamame may lead to crop injuryor loss. Users or growers should evaluate Pursuitfor crop response on the varieties being grown todetermine if Pursuit use is acceptable.Preplant, Preemergence, or Early Postemer-gence. Apply 4 fl ozs/A of Pursuit (0.063 lb ae/Aof imazethapyr) to actively growing crop andweeds. Base application timing on weed size andcrop growth stage. When applying Pursuit early postemergence, apply Pursuit between the first and third trifoliatestage when weeds are less than 3-inches tall.NIS containing at least 80% active ingredientshould be used at 1 quart per 100 gallons of spraysolution.

Crop-specific Restrictions• DO NOT make more than one application of

Pursuit per year.• Replanting - If replanting is necessary in a field

previously treated with Pursuit, the field may bereplanted to edamame. Rework the soil nodeeper than 2 inches. DO NOT apply a secondtreatment of Pursuit.

• Rotational Crop Restrictions - Edamamemay be planted anytime after applying the spec-ified rate of Pursuit for a labeled use.

Reduced crop growth, quality, and yield, and/ordelayed maturity may result from a Pursuit®

herbicide application to edible legume vegeta-bles. Because crop maturity may be delayed, timingof harvest may need to be adjusted accordingly.DO NOT apply Pursuit if planting is delayed andchance of frost before maturity is likely.

Apply Pursuit only if proper agronomic practiceshave been used, including good soil fertility, prop-er crop rotation, disease and insect management, and tillage practices that eliminate compactionand hardpans. Plant lentils, lima beans, or peas atleast 1/2-inch deep to reduce risk of crop injury.DO NOT apply Pursuit if cold and/or wet condi-tions are present or predicted to occur within oneweek of application.DO NOT apply Pursuit postemergence to chick-pea, lentil, lima bean, or white lupin. DO NOTapply Pursuit postemergence before crop has atleast one trifoliate leaf or peas are at least threeinches in height or crop injury (reduced cropgrowth and/or delayed maturity) may result.DO NOT apply Pursuit post emergence after crophas begun to flower or crop injury may result.Refer to specific legume vegetable crop for specif-ic application timings.Use only nonionic surfactants as a spray additivefor postemergence applications. DO NOT usecrop oils, methylated seed oils, or petroleum oils. Some varieties may be more sensitive to applica-tions of Pursuit. Verify with the seed supplier thecrop tolerance of the variety to be planted.

Maximum Leaf Stage column indicates themaximum number of leaves to spray weeds post -emergence. DO  NOT count cotyledon leaveswhen determining weed stage of growth.At-crack Application refers to the time when soilcracks because of the emerging peanut seedling, which usually occurs from 10 to 14 days afterplanting. At this time weeds have generally notgerminated or are in the seedling stage. If weedshave more than 2 true leaves, refer to thePostemergence weed control column for weeds controlled. In west Texas and New Mexico, wait until latecracking (most of the peanuts have emerged)before applying Pursuit® herbicide.Pursuit is active against many broadleaf andgrass weeds. However, when heavy grass orcommon lambsquarters pressure is anticipated, use Pursuit in combination with a registered soil-applied grass herbicide. When Pursuit is soil applied to grasses, moreconsistent control can be obtained from preplantincorporated treatments. When Pursuit is soil applied for control ofnutsedge in peanut, incorporate with two passesof the incorporation implement. Make the secondpass at an offset angle to the first pass to minimizethe potential for streaking.

Tank Mix HerbicidesControl of additional grass and/or broadleafweeds requires a tank mix or sequential use withanother herbicide. Pursuit® herbicide may betank mixed or used in sequence with herbicidesapproved for use in soybean, such asOutlook® herbicide, Prowl® H2O herbicide, orZidua® herbicide. Read and follow applicablerestrictions and limitations and directions for useon all products involved in tank mixing. Always fol-low the most restrictive label use directions.

Grass WeedsA selective post emergence grass herbicide suchas Poast® herbicide may be tank mixed withPursuit to control volunteer corn or grasses notcontrolled by Pursuit. For best results, use cropoil concentrate AND liquid fertilizer with grass her-bicide tank mixtures.Tank Mix with Poast. Apply Pursuit at 4 flozs/A. Refer to the Poast label for the appropriaterate of Poast for enhanced grass control and foradditional weeds controlled, sizes, and rates. If amixture of grass weeds is present, use the highestrate for the grass weeds present. The addition ofPoast to Pursuit at labeled rates will control thefollowing annual grass weeds.

The addition of Poast to Pursuit enhances grasscontrol, especially when heavy infestations of grassexist. It also provides control of grasses not con-trolled by Pursuit. In some cases, the activity ofPoast may be reduced when mixed with Pursuit. The reduction in activity may be overcome bydelaying the application of Poast 7 days followingthe application of Pursuit. If Poast is applied first, wait 3 days before applying Pursuit. For optimum control, apply the tank mixture toactively growing weeds at the sizes indicated in thepreceding table. For sequential applications, referto application rates and weeds sizes indicated inthe Pursuit and Poast labels. Refer to the Poastlabel for additional information about applicationrates, restrictions, precautions, weeds controlled, adjuvants recommended, and other information.

Rotational Interval following Pursuit®

herbicide Application (continued)

* Following forty months after a Pursuit applica-tion and before planting any crop not listed else-where in Rotational Crop Restrictions, asuccessful field bioassay must be completed. The field bioassay consists of a test strip of theintended rotational crop planted across the pre-viously treated field and grown to maturity. The

test strip should include low areas and knolls, and include variations in soil such as type andpH. If no crop injury is evident in the test strip, theintended rotational crop may be planted the fol-lowing year.Sugar beet production can be reduced whengrown in soil conditions with a pH less than 6.5.If the field is limed to adjust pH before plantingrotational crops not listed in the RotationalCrop Restrictions, apply the lime at least12 months before planting the rotational crop.

Use of Pursuit in accordance with label directionsis expected to result in normal growth of rotationalcrops in most situations; however, various envi-ronmental and agronomic factors make it impossi-ble to eliminate all risks associated with the use ofthis product and, therefore, rotational crop injury isalways possible.

Exceptions to Rotational CropRestrictionsAll CropsFull-rate application of products containing chlo-rimuron ethyl (Classic® herbicide, etc.), chloran-sulam-methyl (FirstRate® herbicide), flumetsulam(Hornet® herbicide), imazaquin (Scepter® 70 DGherbicide), or products containing imazethapyr thesame year as Pursuit may increase the risk of injuryto sensitive followcrops. Consult labels for recom-mended uses of these products in combinations.Only rotational crops harvested at maturity may beused for feed or food.
