• After few minutes, I identify a weakness and the first
action items to work on it
WHAT IS MI?
• Client-centered counselling approach developed by psychologists Miller & Rollnick
• First used during an experience in the treatment of drinking problems
• Areas of healthcare, corrections and working with youths
• Facilitate and engage intrinsic motivation within the client in order to change his
behaviour
• MI is not a way to trick people into doing what you want them to do
DEFINITION OF MI
• Collaborative, goal oriented style of communication
• Attention to the language of change
• Designed to strengthen personal motivation and commitment to a specific goal
• Eliciting and exploring person’s own reasons for change
• Within an atmosphere of acceptance and compassion
