It is important that any changes to family details be communicated to the office to ensure information can be directed to the appropriate recipients. This may include change of address or phone number or a change in family circumstances. The correct contact information at school is a vital component in ensuring open lines of communication. Arriving on time at school and class: • Ensures that students do not miss out on important learning activities scheduled early in

the day • Helps students learn the importance of punctuality and routine • Give students time to greet their friends before class • Reduces classroom disruption Lateness is recorded as a partial absence and parents must sign their child/ren in at the office, even if your child is only 5 minutes late. Please remember that all absences must be explained. This can be done via a note, through the Skoolbag app or a call to the office. Letters will be sent home on a regular basis to follow up any unexplained absences in line with Department of Education Policy. Tim Harris Deputy Principal Message from the Ministers

Handbook The “Creating the Difference” information handbook went out last Monday, at the Parents as Partners afternoon. If you were unable to attend, the handbook was sent home the following day. This book is a comprehensive look at our school and the services which it offers. It aims to give parents an easily accessible guide to answer any questions they may have. From something as simple as putting a name to a teachers face (from pg 8) to ways of communication (pg 23) to the school’s uniform policy (pg 44). Here is what a few parents have said about the handbook:- R McCracken: “The book was very informative and I enjoyed seeing lots of lovely photos of smiling kids.”

T Curry: “The book was a great idea with lots of useful information and it’s nice to be able to put the name to the face of teachers.” Katrina: “Very good and very useful.” R Flood: “I think it is a really nice thing to have. If you have any questions you can refer to that before ringing the school. It has most of the information you need, especially for new parents.” If you did not get a booklet don’t worry, just notify your child’s teacher. Jackson Sparks Minister for Communication Technology All stage 3 classrooms have access to laptops which we use for literacy groups, maths groups, learning and research for different subjects. We also get to use the iPads for different electives, robotics lessons and we also have green screen technology for use across the school. Kindergarten and Stage 1 use iPads in their classrooms for learning groups and they also learn about logging onto computers. Students access educational websites during their class time. This year all year 4 students were allocated a laptop to use for a new online program called Maths Pathway. Mrs Walker tells me it is going great and the children love it! Bayley Stockwell Minister for Technology Creative Art It’s exciting to see lots of changes for our school with music and art. In Stage 3 electives we can participate in things such as Botanical Drawing (plants and animals), Art Attack and Mask Making. Some students are doing African Drumming and others are preparing for Wakakiri. Classes in K-4 are working with specialist teachers in music and art. The children are enjoying going to the art and music room to complete their lessons. It’s nice to see the students learning different techniques of art and music. I think it is a brilliant idea for our school to have this sort of opportunity to learn. Mackensie Wright Minister for the Arts

Parliament Earlier in the term each class nominated their class representatives for Parliament. Congratulations to those people who have been elected. Each Class Representative will receive a Parliament Representative Badge at the Week 8 Assembly. Invitations will be sent to families to celebrate this moment with their children. The Year 5 and 6 Shadow Minister positions will also be formally announced at the assembly. We are looking forward to a fantastic year with our representatives.
