Less Than ZeroNegative Numbers Posters
Poster Project Each student makes a poster featuring negative numbers. Use computers to draw, copy pictures, and type your text. Or, you can make your poster by hand with construction paper and a glue stick Work in pairs or individually
Adding negative numbersSame signadd, then keep the sign
Different signsubtract, then use the sign of the larger number

2+ 3= 52+35

Add the numbers Then, keep the sign
3+2= 1321

Subtract the numbers Then, use the sign of the larger number

The Steelers gained 8 yards on their rst rushing play. Then Roethlisberger got sacked for a loss of 6 yards. This was a total gain of 2 yards.

It was already really cold, only 4F. Then the temperature dropped by 7. It got down to 3F.

Ben Roethlisberger gained 4,077 yards this season. If you add the 269 yards he lost to sacks, he gained 3808 yards.
4077 + 269 4077 269 = 3808Adding a negative number is the same as subtracting a positive number
My electric bill is $75 per month. How much did I pay in 2011 for electricity? 12 x 75 = 900

Grading4 Design Time and Effort MathGraphics and text are an appropriate size and interesting shape and are arranged well. Design was well thought out. The work is neat, clear, and easy to read.
3Graphics and text are appropriate size and some attention was given to design. The work is organized and usually easy to read.
2The arrangement of items is not very attractive. It appears there was not a lot of planning. The work is unorganized and may be hard to read at times.
1It appears little attention was given to design. The work appears sloppy and unorganized.
Class time was used wisely. Much time and effort went into the planning and design.
Class time was used wisely. Student could have put in more effort.
Class time was not always used wisely, but student did complete the project.
Class time was not used wisely and the student put in little effort.
Correct terminology and notation are always used, making it easy to understand what was done. Explanation is detailed and clear.
Correct terminology and notation are usually used, making it fairly easy to understand what was done. Explanation is clear.
Correct terminology and notation are used, but it is sometimes not easy to understand what was done. Explanation is a little difcult to understand, but includes critical components.
There is little use, or a lot of inappropriate use, of terminology and notation. Explanation is difcult to understand and is missing several components OR was not included.
Have Fun!! Please nd a way to make this an enjoyable project for yourself. If you choose not to participate, you will not use the computer and you will be expected to work out of the textbook, completing problems 1 through 43 starting on page 32
