Management (TSM/HSM)

A fileset is a logical subtree of the GPFS file system

namespace

Partitions of the namespace into smaller, more manageable

units.

They are linked somewhere into the filesystem tree

The policy engine, aka Active Cloud Engine maintains

and executes the rule set

Multiple levels of rules (policies) can be applied because the

complete policy rule set is evaluated for each file

Storage pools allow you to group multiple physical

storage devices within a file system (SATA, SAS, Fibre

Channel, etc.)

There is always a system pool, up to 7 further customer pools

can be created

An External Pool Interface to TSM server exists to migrate

files to external Tape storage while keeping a pointer in the

namespace

GPFS: definições de File System & File Set

File System é um conjunto de diretórios arranjados numa estrutura de árvore.

GPFS inclui o conceito de Fileset que é um particionamento do File System

Fileset é um sub-conjunto de diretórios com regras particulares como cotas, snapshots, migração ILM e cópias remotas

Tipos do fileset• Independente

− Possui atributos individuais como cota e snapshot

• Dependente− Possui atributos do nó superior

O que é NDMP (Network Data Management Protocol) ?

Network Data Management Protocol open standard for NAS backup.

Two primary NDMP functions:– Data Server: reads & writes data to/ from disk that is part of NDMP

stream– Tape Server: reads & writes an NDMP datastream from/to a tape

device DMA – Data Management Application

Controls NDMP data movement and backup/restore

Storwize V7000 Unified contains a preloaded copy of the GPFS on Linux Hierachical Storage Management (HSM) client component of IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for Space Management (IBM Program 5608-E12) (hereinafter individually referred to as a "TSM HSM Client").

Each File Module using the TSM HSM Client to migrate files to and from an external TSM storage pool, Licensee separately must have obtained or must obtain:

• 1) licenses for IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for Space Management and • 2) appropriate Proof of Entitlement to use the applicable TSM HSM Client.
