The Corbin Redhounds have put themselves in a posi-tion to win their fourth 50th District Title in a row after taking the number one seed in next week’s tournament.

Coach Tony Pietrowski’s team earned the number one seed by winning five of their six district games. Their only loss came at the hands of the Williamsburg Yellow Jackets 55-49 back on Jan. 6. The Redhounds were without leading scorer Travis Smith in that game.

Pietrowski is concerned about the Yellow Jackets and will not be over-looking Williamsburg.

“For us being a number one seed, it is a difficult match-up,” said the veteran coach.

“I think Williamsburg has shown the ability to play with anyone in our district. So, we know we have got our hands full. They have played us well both times that we

have played them.”“We are going to have to

key in and play well to be able to advance to the region-al tournament,” Pietrowski said.

Corbin is currently 16-10 and have been led by Smith, juniors Zach Farley, Robbie Igo, Hunter Grubb and Kaleb Maguet from a scoring stand-point along with exchange strudent Victor Berezutchi.

The first time the two teams met at Corbin the Yellow Jackets came out with the victory.

That was a big win for Williamsburg and Coach Patrick Robinson.

Robinson knows his team can play with the Redhounds and must be ready for Monday’s game.

“We need to be 100 percernt focused on exactly what we are trying to do,” Robinson

said. “Stick to the game plan and play as one cohesive unit for four quarters.”

What concerns Robinson most about the Redhounds?

“The biggest concern I have going into the game is making sure we do a nice job defensively. I want our guys to play super hard and exe-cute on offense,” he added.

“Travis Smith really hurt us the last game so hopefully we can defend him much better.”

“We play really hard and focus a lot on guarding peo-ple as tough as we can,” he said.

of the regular season against Owsley County and Pineville. Wins over both of those teams would give the Yellow Jackets a winning season, the first for Robinson.

Williamsburg put together an impressive run early in January when they won six straight games before los-ing to Barbourville 60-50 in the championship game of the 13th Region All “A” Tournament.

The Yellow Jackets have been led by seniors Jared Barton (12.4) and Cameron Smoak (8.8). Sophomore Dalton Sizemore and fresh-men Skyler Griffith, Corey Shelton, Chase Lowrie and 8th grader Andrew Griffth have played key roles in the Jackets’ success.
