I have to start by saying I had a great night on Monday at the Campbelltown Rotary Club meeting
where a few Magill members saw the returning GSE team give their presentation of their exploits in
Taiwan. They all had an amazing time over there and I am sure our very own Simone Mazengarb will
show those who were unable to attend her side of the journey at our club next Tuesday.
Now to OUR meeting, we had the pleasure of Kevin Stevens visiting us this week with his experiences in
Cambodia and the Rotary projects running over there. He had an interesting introduction to the world
of Rotary when he was asked to attend a meeting whilst getting a haircut. The meeting he intended to
spend 5 minutes at has kept him a part of Rotary ever since. As he said, the warmth and welcome he
received made him feel part of a big family – “sisters and brothers to other mothers”. He spoke of his
involvement with not just Rotary but of a group called Extraordinary Lives, a group who travel to the 7
wonders exploring ancient wisdom and how it could benefit today’s society. This gave him the
opportunity to travel to Cambodia.
These travels opened his eyes a great deal, he spoke of New Hope where a young Campucian was given
an opportunity to get an education and realized that after his education, wanted to give something
back. From here a school has been established which is run from the donations made to the New Hope
organization. He also spoke of a Rotary initiative called Sustainable Cambodia. Volunteers go over to
Cambodia and through their efforts help empower rural villagers to create self-sustaining communities
with clean water, wells, dams and schools. He told us that nearly $220,000 had been donated so far for
2 schools, 1 in Pursat, the other in Kravahn where the children were taught many life lessons and also
languages that they encourage them to take home and teach their parents.
Kevin was a really energetic speaker who has a great passion for these projects. He urged us all to find a
passion or project within Rotary, as there are so many, and get right behind it with our own passion
“Look into our own soul journey”. He said that we needed to understand emotional intelligence and
emotional intelligence factors of support. I could not remember exactly what he meant with this but on
looking it up found it is the “something” in each of us that is a bit intangible. It affects how we manage
behaviour, navigate social complexities, and make personal decisions that achieve positive results. Very
deep for 7.30am, all part of an amazing presentation from a very motivational man.
See you all next week.

1945 – Dietrich Bonhoeffer, German pastor, theologian and participant in the resistance movement
against Nazism, is executed.

for the dictator.
Thought for the Day 1:
Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.
Thought for the Day 2:
Insanity is doing the same thing, over and over again, but expecting different results.

• Ronda, for ringing my sergeant’s bell, and then using the excuse “I thought it was my job.”
• Greg, for leaving a gap in the curtains so that half of the room was blinded by the morning
sun, and for the delightful Easter Bunny photo in last week’s bulletin.
• A cross-fine for me (from Mark T) for my car park this morning – apparently my car must be
parallel to the lines at all times and a 10 degree angle is unacceptable.
• Licaria, as both of us were stuck trying to sneak into the room at the start of the Taiwan GSE
return presentation, after choosing to go to the bathroom at the wrong time.
• Mark T – For claiming that he would win a pushup challenge if that were to be made the
weekly game.
• Sue – For being in her tennis final this week.
• John C and Sue for their footy tipping success.
• Siony, for her great joke posted under a photo of Lindsay on Facebook. He was holding a
Styrofoam cup with a beaming smile at a Rotary function, and Siony’s comment was
“What’s in the cup?”
• Carol – for forgetting to put up her hand for Directors Notices.
• The back table mob, for the honour of having Chef Gary join them for breakfast.
• A variety of cross fines & happy bucks.

Mayor Simon Brewer was the big mover this week – moving from top place to last place.
Meanwhile 18 tippers had all games correct heading into the last match of the round. Seven of
those tippers made it through the last match to produce a perfect 9 – earning themselves a Hungry
Jacks Whopper (if they can locate the voucher). Well done. Top of the pack was Magill Treasurer
Sue, edging out Adel (Morialta), President Greg (Magill) and Sue’s son by the narrowest of margins.
To make it simple, this week’s prize will go to the tipper who picks the Showdown winner - with the
Friday night margin used as a tie-breaker. GOOD LUCK
