    CLASSIFICATION IN COMPLIANCE WITHEN 12004Ultraflex S2 Quick is highly deformable (S2)cementitious (C) improved (2) fast-setting (F)slip-resistant (T) adhesive of class C2FTS2.

    Ultraflex S2 Quickis CE marked, as declared inITTcertificaten 25070199/Gi (TUM)issued by theTechnische Universitt Mnchen laboratory (Germany).

    WHERE TO USE Bonding of all types (double-fired, single-fired,

    porcelain, klinker, etc.) and sizes of ceramic tileson internal and external surfaces.

    Bonding of natural stone, which is not sensitive tomoisture, to interior or exterior.

    Some application examples Bonding of ceramic tiles (double-fired, single-fired,

    porcelain, klinker, etc.) and stone material (if notparticularly sensitive to humidity) on traditionalsubstrates such as: cementitious and anhydrite screeds; heated screeds; cementitious render or lime-mortar render; plasterboard, pre-fabricated and cement-fibre

    panels.

    Laying on flexible substrates or substrates subject tovibration: marine plywood, wooden agglomerates(if sufficiently stable in the presence of water), oldwooden floors, etc.

    Quick refurbishment work where immediateinstallation is required (public buildings, transportcafes, supermarkets, airports and pedestrian areas).

    Laying ceramic and stone material on faades,balconies, terraces and slab floors exposed todirect sunlight and temperature gradients.

    Laying on pre-fabricated concrete walls andconcrete substrates.

    Laying in environments (such as hospital entrancehalls, school corridors, public buildings, etc.) whereimpact noise caused by footsteps needs to bereduced, especially if used in conjunction with the

    Mapefonic System.

    Laying ceramic and stone material directly on topof old floors (in ceramic, marble, etc.).

    Laying floors and coatings on MAPEI waterproofingand anti-fracture membranes.

    TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICSUltraflex S2 Quick is a grey-coloured powder madeup of a blend of special cements, graded sand, a highquantity of synthetic resins and micronised elastomers,according to a formula developed in MAPEIs ownResearch Laboratories.When mixed with water, it forms a mortar with the

    following characteristics:

    The innovative Ultralite TechnologyTM provides a lowdensity product which results in two key advantages:

    1) weight advantage: 15 kg of Ultraflex S2Quick weighs less than traditionalcementitious adhesives of the samevolume. Easier handling and lowertransport costs apply;

    2) increased yield: yield is approximately30% more compared with MAPEIstraditional cementitious adhesives;

    low viscosity and, therefore, goodworkability;

    highly thixotropic: Ultraflex S2 Quick maybe applied on vertical surfaces withoutsagging and there is no risk of the tilesslipping. It is also possible to lay the tilesfrom the top working downwards anddiagonally without using spacer pegs.

    excellent capacity for following deformationin the substrate and tiles;

    bonds perfectly to all materials normally

    used in the building industry.

    Ultraflex S2 Quick develops high bondingstrength after only 2-3 hours at +23C (after8 hours at +10C); therefore, floors finisheslaid using this product may be used after avery short period of time.

    RECOMMENDATIONSDo not use Ultraflex S2 Quick in thefollowing cases:

    on metallic, rubber, PVC or linoleumsurfaces;

    with marble or artificial composite materialsubject to considerable movement in thepresence of humidity.

    Do not embed electric radiating heatingelements in the layer of adhesive.

    Do not add more water to the mix once ithas started to set.

    APPLICATION PROCEDUREPreparing the substratesThe substrates must be mechanically strong,dry and free from crumbling parts, grease, oil,

    paint and wax.Generally, cementitious substrates used forlaying ceramic must not be subject toshrinkage once the tiles have been laid.Since Ultraflex S2 Quick is particularlyflexible, however, it is also able tocompensate for micro-cracks which form inthe substrate if it is not sufficiently cured.Gypsum substrates and anhydrite screedsmust be perfectly dry, sufficiently hard, freefrom dust and, in all cases, treated withPrimer G or Mapeprim SP. Areas which aresubject to high humidity must be treated withPrimer S.

    Preparing the mixBlend Ultraflex S2 Quick with clean wateruntil a smooth, lump-free paste is obtained.Leave the mix standing for 5 minutes, thenre-mix.

    The amount of water to use is approx. 5.4 l ofwater for every 15 kg sack. The mix preparedas above lasts approx. 30 minutes.

    Applying the mix

    Apply Ultraflex S2 Quick on the substrateusing a notched trowel. Use a trowel whichguarantees perfect buttering of the back ofthe tile.

    To obtain a good bond, spread a thin layer ofUltraflex S2 Quick on the substrate usingthe smooth side of the trowel. Immediatelyspread a further layer of Ultraflex S2 Quickto the thickness required using a suitablenotched trowel, according to the size andtype of the tiles.When laying floors and coatings on externalsurfaces, or for tiles larger than 900 cm2 andfloors subject to heavy loads, spread theadhesive on the back of the tile to guaranteetotal buttering.

    Laying the tiles

    It is not necessary to wet the tiles before theyare laid. Only in the case of tile backs whichare very dusty do we recommend washingthem by dipping them into clean water.The tiles must be applied with a slightpressure to guarantee that they are wellbuttered.At normal temperatures and humidityconditions, the open time of Ultraflex S2Quick is ca. 15-20 minutes. Unfavourableconditions (direct sunlight, dry wind and hightemperatures), or if the substrate is veryabsorbent, may reduce this time to only afew minutes.Continuously check the adhesive to makesure that a skin does not form on the surfaceand that it is still fresh. If a skin forms, re-spread the adhesive using the notchedtrowel. It is unadvisable to wet the adhesivewhen a surface skin forms, because thewater forms a film which prevents bondinginstead of dissolving it.Finishes laid with Ultraflex S2 Quick mustnot be washed down or exposed to rain forat least 3-4 hours, and must be protectedagainst freezing weather or direct sunlightfor at least 24 hours after laying.

    Grouting and sealing

    The tile joints may be grouted after 2-3 hourswhen laid on walls and after 5-6 hours whenlaid on floors using a special MAPEIcementitious or epoxy grout, which areavailable in a variety of colours.Expansion joints must be sealed using thespecial MAPEI sealants.

    SET TO LIGHT FOOT TRAFFIC

    Floors are ready for foot traffic after approx.5-6 hours.

    READY FOR USE

    The surfaces may be put into service afterapprox. 24 hours.
