ALTHOUGH numbers were down a little on Wednes-day, due to threatening weather, Kate Grover led a keen group of Wangaratta Out and About cyclists on what turned out to be a fairly fast ride to Eldorado then across to the Beechworth Road and through Tarrawingee to Mil-awa and the Cheese Factory for a morning coffee break.
Fired up by their caffeine fix and the need to beat the threatening rain, the group then rode strongly into the wind along the Oxley Flats Road.

ON Saturday the Wangaratta Bicycle User Group were delighted to have members from visiting Banyule BUG, a Melbourne group, join them for a day’s riding in the pictur-esque North East.
A fine, but at times windy day didn’t deter the riders from pursuing a 70km ride from Wangaratta to Everton, Markwood, Milawa and Oxley via rail trails, finishing with a ride on the bike tracks and bridges alongside local creeks leading to Painters Island where the visiting group were based.
Sunday was the annual Kelly Country Classic in which eight BUG members participated in the 55km and one in the 105km – all enjoyed competing in the event for a worthy cause.
It was a cloudy day, mainly fine for the ride with only a sharp shower on the return leg.
The Wednesday group of riders made their way to Glenrowan along the Oxley Rail Trail and Snow Road to the Glenrowan Bakehouse for a break before returning along Warby Range Road.

LAST Saturday, seven Warby Range Bushwalkers members walked from Taminick Gap down towards Bai-ley’s Winery and then along the national park boundary to where the Moonlight Track takes off.
The group then climbed up to the Ridge Track to enjoy lunch and superb crystal clear views from the top of Mt Glenrowan.
The amble back to Taminick Gap was highlighted once again by the exceptional Grass Tree flowering and masses of orchids.
Three walkers – Judy, Kate and Bob - headed for India last week to explore the sub continent but also to com-plete trekking in Nepal.
Future Walks:Sunday, November 24: Tuan Track and Magenta Mine
near Chiltern. The Tuan Track is a medium 7km circuit which has been developed by the friends of Chiltern. It is in a beautifully vegetated section of the national park west of the town. It passes through Bartley’s Block which be-cause it was originally cleared and has permanent water is a great birding spot. For the more energetic the walk will be extended a further 5km to visit the historic and once very productive Magenta Mine. Contact Karen Davis on 5722 2540.
Saturday, December 7: Black Range - King Valley. An undulating medium (hard at times) walk of 15km along the old forestry tracks of the Black Range. The 4-5 km ascent is rewarded with views down the King Valley and there is the likelihood of surprising lyre birds. This is a heavily tim-bered former logging area, steeped in mining history. The ‘Range’ is bouncing back from years of drought and fire. Contact Trevor Turnbull on 5721 6215.
