National Radio Club is pleased to announce the appointment of William R. “Bill” Hale to fill the vacancy that was created with the passing of Paul Swearingen. Bill served admirably in the past and brings a wealth of knowledge to the Board on the working of the Club. The NRC’s New Internet Home: With the
changes to the volunteers that are working with our Internet presence, it was decided to take our website to a more user‐friendly format that does not require extensive use of the HyperText Markup Language (html) to maintain. We are now using WordPress for the site and effective with the masthead date of this issue our new address is www.nationalradioclub.org. All the content that was located at the old site is still available and the new site. This includes all the services to Join and/or Renew membership in the club and online ordering NRC Publications.
At this time the new site is being maintained by Wayne Heinen, however, if we have any members that are familiar with WordPress that may want to assist with this site please contact Wayne at [email protected]. Help Wanted: In addition to help with the
web site, we are still looking for a member who would be willing to edit DDXD‐West, on either a temporary or permanent basis. And we are also hoping to find a member to compile the periodic College Sports Networks column.
If interested in either opening, please contact David Yocis at [email protected]. Also, for the time being, please send DDXD‐West submissions to the same address. Convention: If you have any interest in
considering whether to make a bid to host the convention next year, please contact Ernie Wesolowski at [email protected] or 13312 Westwood Lane, Omaha, NE 68144‐3543. Ernie will give you all the information you need as to what is involved in hosting a convention. [NRC‐AM]: To be added to the newly moved
[NRC‐AM] Google Group listserve, moderated by Russ Edmunds, just e‐mail Wayne Heinen at his new address [email protected] from the email that you wish to subscribe to the list with and he’ll get you added.

92.3 Deleted Groups Grp= NewsRadio 680 Grp= Sunny Radio (RD) From Radio Insight The FCC has given its approval to the Entercom/CBS Radio merger clearing the final regulatory
hurdle the deal needed to cross the finish line. The approval comes with the grant of two waivers towards the ownership limits in a market and is contingent on the divestiture of the nineteen stations being divested. Entercom has been given a six month waiver of the Radio/TV cross‐ownership limits due to overlap in Miami and San Francisco, to permit CBS Corp’s Leslie Moonves and Joseph Ianniello to serve as temporary members of the Entercom Board of Directors for six months, and a continuation waiver for Entercom to continue to operated expanded band AM 1660 KXTR and its originally paired 1250 KXTR Kansas City. Petitions to deny by Ed Stolz and Deborah J. Naiman were rejected in the process.
-
6 Update 11/16: The FCC voted to approve the ownership rule changes on a party line by a 3‐2 vote
with one addition not previously revealed that will impact the sub‐markets in the New York and Washington DC metropolitan areas. The approved changes are:
Eliminating the newspaper/broadcast cross‐ownership rule preventing a company from operating a newspaper and a broadcast outlet in the same market.
Eliminating the radio/television ownership subcaps so a television station no longer counts towards the limit of eight radio stations (maximum of five on each band) that a company can own.
Eliminating the requirement that at least eight independently owned television stations must remain in the market following the combination of two television stations in a market
Modifying the ban against common ownership of two top‐four rated tv stations in a market to allow waivers on a case‐by‐case basis
Eliminating the JSA Attribution Rule requiring television stations to count a station it sells more than 15% of ad time for under the ownership cap.
The FCC is also going to allow waivers in certain circumstances for companies to exceed the eight‐station limit in embedded markets of New York and Washington DC. For example, Connoisseur Media who pushed for this modification, must count its 2 AMs and 4FMs in the Nassau/Suffolk market towards its cap in the New York market and is concurrently blocked from purchasing stations in similar embedded markets like Monmouth/Ocean NJ.

Hello everyone. I have been an NRC member for over 30 years, but a miserably difficult and stressful job (60‐90 hours a week or more) combined with deteriorating DX conditions here in the San Diego area really limited my DXing the past 20 years. Now Iʹm retired and jumping back into the hobby with enthusiasm. I have a tiny backyard but Iʹve set up a 560 foot mini‐BOG behind the cinder block wall that lines the backyards of the houses on my street ‐ itʹs aimed down the coast roughly toward Guadalajara but also picks up signals up the coast and even a few TPs off the back end. This new antenna brought me 50 new catches last DX season. Thatʹs a big surprise given that Iʹve DXed in this area 41 years! My real fun comes from an annual trip to the Border Inn, a roadside motel on US 6/50 that straddles the Nevada/Utah border. I set up beverage antennas in many different directions (using extra‐strength duct tape for the northern wires which have to cross the highway!) and get tons of interesting catches, especially if conditions are weird, as they certainly were this year. Iʹve sent a partial report to DDXD‐W and IDXD so you can see what I mean. Itʹs difficult for me to submit my tips on a timely basis for DX club columns, since Iʹm using a Perseus and usually have several monthsʹ recordings waiting to be reviewed, but Iʹm going to make more of an effort to submit the best catches while theyʹre still timely. As I try to come back up to speed Iʹve been spending lots of time cataloging the web sites, live streams, and Facebook pages of stations in the western states, western Canadian provinces, and all of Mexico. Iʹve spent the past few months listening to live feeds and chatting with Mexican stations on Facebook to determine which Mexican stations are still on AM and which have finished moving to FM. As I wrap up this research (trying to find info for about 50 stations with little or no web presence, or defective web streams), it looks like roughly 55‐60% of Mexican AM stations are gone. Thatʹs sad, but it also opens up a lot of DX opportunities, as youʹll see in my Border Inn loggings. All the info Iʹve gathered has been sent to Neil Kazaross who is editing the next edition of the IRCA Mexican List. My other passion is graveyard DX. I have taken a radio with me on almost every vacation and business trip for the past 30 years. You never know when youʹll stumble into a GYDX record. The Border Inn is a paradise for graveyard DX. Back to my recordings! 73 and good DX.
