I. SUBMISSION OF ENTRIES
Note: Nominees must be present at the Regional Conference or provide evidence of inability to attend.
The Awards-at-a-Glance table specifies which categories are to be submitted by graduate and undergraduate chapters.

Checklist B - Award Category 29 – Chapter Attendance
This award will be based on attendance recorded at the Conference Registration Desk.
Attendance will be recorded up to the close of registration on Friday, March 23, 2017.
Chapters must submit the Nomination Form to the Awards Committee no later than
• Friday, March 23, 2018 at 7PM
• Chapters must apply for this award in order to be considered.
The form must be submitted at the Awards/Exhibits Area.
Winners will be based on the percentage of active chapter membership present at the Regional Conference.
Checklist B - Award Categories 32 through 40
Entries must be submitted along with Checklist B and Binder Cover Sheet at the Regional Conference.
All entries must be received in the Awards/Exhibits Area by the Awards Committee during the following time:
• Thursday, March 22, 2018 3PM to 7PM
II. DISPLAY AND CHECKOUT OF ENTRIES
All award entries that meet the qualifications will be displayed during the Regional Conference.
All entries must be picked up no later than Saturday, March 24, 2018 before 2:00 p.m.
The Awards Committee will not be responsible for entries left after 2:00 p.m.

III. GENERAL GUIDELINES
Except where specifically instructed, each entry should include only activities, accomplishments, awards, etc., from February 1,
2017 – February 1, 2018.
Points will be deducted if the above guidelines are not followed.
All supporting material must be postmarked no later than February 18, 2018.
Entries that do not meet the following specifications will not be accepted.
Size Guidelines: All entries must meet the required size and weight as indicated below:
Individual Scrapbooks: * must not be larger than 15” x 15”, 3” thick and weigh no more than 20 pounds
Chapter Scrapbooks: * must not be larger than 18” x 18” and 5” thick and weigh no more than 30 pounds
Exhibits: * must not be larger than 3’ x 3’ x 3’
Checklist A must accompany entries that are mailed.
Checklist B must be mailed. The postmark deadline is February 18, 2018. A copy of Checklist B must also
accompany entries that are submitted at Regional Conference.
The Eligibility Form must accompany mailed entries. The postmark deadline is February 18, 2018.
Chapters that are not submitting mailed entries must also mail the Eligibility Form. The postmark deadline is February 18,
2018. A copy of the Eligibility Form must also accompany entries that are submitted at Regional Conference.
Each entry must be bound securely. The binder type (notebook, scrapbook, folder, etc.) is the Chapter’s choice. Do not
bind the Checklist or the Eligibility Form.
The Nomination Form must accompany each entry, and it should be filled out completely.
Only one category should be included in a binder.
Do not use the same entry for more than one category.
Points will be deducted if the following specifications are not met:
For Categories 1 through 28, the Nomination Form must be securely attached to the first page or to the inside front
cover of the binder.
Guidelines on the Nomination Form must be followed. Organization of entry is up to the Chapter, but each section
must be clearly labeled with headings listed on the Nomination Form.
There should be no loose pages.
Chapters are encouraged to send entries by certified mail (return receipt requested, with no signature requested) so that they can verify
receipt of materials.
If two or more packages are mailed from the same chapter, Checklist A should be in the first package. Please
indicate the number of packages on each package (example: 1 of 3, 2 of 3, and 3 of 3). It is not necessary to mail more than one
copy of Checklist A.
Regional Conference Hostess Chapters are not eligible to compete for awards with the exception of the following:
Golden Soror of the Year Award, Form 24; and LAUNCHING NEW DIMENSIONS OF SERVICE AWARDS.
IV. AWARDS
Awards will be given to first and second place winners in each category, unless specifically noted.
No undergraduate awards will be based on chapter size, unless specifically noted.

General Guidelines:
The International Program Committee is pleased to present the 2018 LNDS awards for the regional conference
season. All award criteria is being sent to each Regional Director to share and to guide the Regional Awards
Chairman and the Regional Awards Committee in the selection of recipients. Each region is responsible for the
selection of award recipients using the criteria herein. Information in this packet should be included in the
Regional Awards Booklet or via appropriate communications as approved by each Regional Director.
The following 2018 Regional Conference Award Winners will be acknowledged at the 2018 Boule in Houston
– First Place Winners for Target 1 – ASCEND, One Million Backpacks, HBCU Hall of Fame and Overall
LNDS Achievement Awards.
Key factors to note:
Award selections will be handled by the respective Regional Award Committee and will follow
the process set forth by the Region.
The International Program Committee will NOT be involved in the selection of Regional
Award Winners.
Each Region should determine Small, Medium and Large Chapter Categories
Track 1 (North Atlantic, South Atlantic, South Eastern, South Central and Central) - Each
award will have one Graduate Winner and one Runner-Up Winner among Small, Medium and Large
Chapters. Award judges should utilize guidelines in the program resource guide as well as the criteria
herein to determine winners.
Track 2 (Mid-Atlantic, Great Lakes, Mid-Western, Far Western and International) - Each
award will have one Graduate 1st Place, 2nd Place, 3rd Place Winner among all chapter applicants.

Target 1: Educational Enrichment Achievement Awards
ASCEND Signature Program – To be completed by Graduate Chapters Only
The sorority will prepare 5,000 students each year (20,000 by 2018) to transition from high school to college, a
vocational/technical school or work. Graduate and undergraduate members where appropriate will work collaboratively to
improve the college and career readiness of 9-12 graders.
Judging Criteria (100-point scale):
Overall presentation of program activity – creativity, visual appeal, and neatness (10 points)
Provide number of students enrolled and the number graduated in Cycle 2 based upon the suggested
in the Program Resource Guide. (10 points)
Provide number of students enrolled in Cycle 3 based on the number suggested in the Program Resource Guide.

One Million Backpacks
The sorority will collect and distribute 1,000,000 backpacks to children in need across the country. Members will collect
backpacks throughout the year to be distributed to community partners including local agencies, school districts, and
community centers.

activities will receive this award. Note: One small, medium and large chapter from each Region will
receive this award.

Target 2: Health Promotion Achievement Award
All Activities in Alzheimer’s Disease/Caregiver Support, Stoke/Heart Disease Prevention, and Mental
Health/Wellness Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. will continue its strong health awareness focus through
programs in three areas that disproportionately affect the African American community: Alzheimer’s disease;
stroke and heart disease prevention; and mental health and wellness. The focus will be enhanced by working
with the following national partners: the
Alzheimer’s Association, American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, and the National Alliance
on Mental Illness (NAMI). Graduate and Undergraduate Chapters that effectively execute health programs
based on Alpha Kappa Alpha’s health partnership goals including impacting a large number of local
community residents will be awarded.

Alpha Kappa Alpha will reach 250,000 families to help end childhood hunger, assist 20,000 families in
obtaining appropriate seasonal clothing and educate over 40,000 families on financial literacy during (2014-2018) to support and empower families to live better their lives.

Target 5: Global Impact Achievement Award
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. has a strong international partnership with the United Nations Association of
the United States of America (UNA-USA). Many of the key activities are promoting global awareness via
Global Classrooms (model UN) and educating local communities on global issues. The Chapter that
demonstrates the most unique ways in raising awareness of global issues, engaging ASCEND students, and
educating our communities including executing programs related to the UNA through Model UN, UN
Intergenerational Conferences, on Campus activities including GenUN, UNA- USA memberships, UN Day
observances, and all activities engaged in as a way to increase the global perspectives for the individuals living
in the communities we serve will be awarded.

General Guidelines:
The International Undergraduate Activities Committee is pleased to present the 2018 Flourish awards for
the regional conference season. All award criteria are being sent to each Regional Director to share and to
guide the Regional Awards Chairman and the Regional Awards Committee in the selection of recipients.
Each region’s Regional Awards Committee or representatives to the International Undergraduate Activities
Committee as well as any visiting committee members are responsible for the selection of award recipients
using the criteria herein. Information in this packet should be included in the Regional Awards Booklet or
via appropriate communications as approved by each Regional Director.
2018 Regional Conference Award winners and undergraduate applicants for the International Program and
Flourish Awards will be eligible to earn additional points towards 2018 Flourish Boule Awards entries.
Key factors to note:
Award selections will be facilitated by each Regional Awards Committee and respective International
Undergraduate Activities Committee representative and will follow the process set forth by the Region
Each Region should determine Small, Medium and Large Chapter Categories
Each award will have one Winner and one Runner-Up Winner among Small, Medium and Large
Chapters. Runner-Up Winners will be verbally recognized.
Award judges should utilize guidelines in the program resource guide as well as the criteria herein to
determine winners
Chapters must have representation at Regional Conference to be recognized
The attached cover sheet should accompany each award submission. Award submissions should follow the
guidelines of the region. All solely electronic submissions (PDFs, PowerPoints, etc.), must be submitted to

and tool kits to increase international Launching New Dimensions of Service® program participation amongst

With a vision that began in 1907 and became a reality in 1908, Soror Ethel Hedgeman envisioned that Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority’s undergraduates would lead with service as their guidepost and be a voice for the marginalized and underserved in our community. Given the current geopolitical landscape, we are
pleased to recognize undergraduate contributions to social justice, progress of minority populations, and protection of human rights. Chapters will be
recognized for their demonstrated commitment to exemplifying international leadership as well as educating and preparing others to lead. Chapters are
encouraged to apply if there are any chapter members who are scholarship recipients, hold leadership positions, and/or have been recognized in some

Award 3: Best Reporting Chapter Award
Program reporting is an extremely important. There are many misconceptions regarding the importance of chapter reporting such as: no one regionally or internationally cares about the programs your chapter hosts, Corporate Office isn’t paying attention to whether your chapter reports annually, and you can always do it at a later date. When, your programs are being documented on a consistent basis not only internationally, but regionally as well. Reporting your chapter's programs helps the sorority by assessing your chapter’s program progress and enables our sorority to better document, assess, and report its service record accurately to the public.
Chapters with the most timely and frequent reporting throughout the year will be recognized.
Judging Criteria (100-point scale):

Award 4: Leaving Your Mark Award
For almost 110 years, undergraduate sorors have been catalysts for positive change through programs of service
vital to our communities. As demonstrated by our Founders, undergraduates possess the ability to engage with
communities that we serve, empower others to use their voices for the greater good, and elevate the African-
American community. Recognizing the tradition of sisterhood, scholarship, and service, we are acknowledging
chapters for recurring semester/quarter or annual implementation of one specific target program or event
throughout the Launching New Dimensions of Service Administration.
Examples of events: Annual fundraising gala or ball, significant A.S.C.E.N.D. program, ModelUN, Acts of
Green programs, Homecoming service events, speaker series and community forums, etc.
Judging Criteria (100-point scale):
✓ Overall presentation of program activity – creativity, visual appeal, and neatness (10 points)
✓ Provide documentation of the activities
