I recently pulled onto Trotwood from James Campbell Boulevard, where the car in front of me went from the main lane in the left over to the right. Typically if people do that they are going to turn right, because that is the lane that has to yield to the left lane, which I was in. As I was picking up speed to go past that vehicle, they started merging over into my lane. What made it worse was when I had to react by moving to the left, where there was a vehicle coming the other way getting into the turn lane. I had to really speed up to avoid being sandwiched between these two vehicles because of the improper understanding of the other driver who thought they had the right of way. Maybe you’ve been like that spiritually. Perhaps you’ve had a close call where you could see spiritual disas- ter written all over the wall, but somehow you avoided disaster. It was a close call, and you realize how bad it could have been. Paul identified two individuals to Timothy named Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom he said “...suffered shipwreck in regard to their faith” (1 Tim. 1:20). Rest assured we don’t have to be like them, as we can avoid the wreck and come out unharmed by the evil one. Let’s take advantage of the opportunities God provides as ways out, before the damage is done (1 Cor. 10:13). P.S.as Rachel Garrett used to tell me, watch the other fella! Brotherly, Jeremy T. Butt

Close Call

Trotwood Avenue is notorious for having traffic congestion, especially out in front of the hospital where the

fast food restaurants are. One of the hazardous spots appears where the two lanes merge into one heading toward

downtown. I recently pulled onto Trotwood from James Campbell Boulevard, where the car in front of me went

from the main lane in the left over to the right. Typically if people do that they are going to turn right, because that

is the lane that has to yield to the left lane, which I was in. As I was picking up speed to go past that vehicle, they

started merging over into my lane. What made it worse was when I had to react by moving to the left, where there

was a vehicle coming the other way getting into the turn lane. I had to really speed up to avoid being sandwiched

between these two vehicles because of the improper understanding of the other driver who thought they had the

right of way.

Maybe you’ve been like that spiritually. Perhaps you’ve had a close call where you could see spiritual disas-

ter written all over the wall, but somehow you avoided disaster. It was a close call, and you realize how bad it could

have been. Paul identified two individuals to Timothy named Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom he said “...suffered

shipwreck in regard to their faith” (1 Tim. 1:20). Rest assured we don’t have to be like them, as we can avoid the

wreck and come out unharmed by the evil one. Let’s take advantage of the opportunities God provides as ways out,

before the damage is done (1 Cor. 10:13). P.S.—as Rachel Garrett used to tell me, watch the other fella!

Brotherly,

Jeremy T. Butt
