  • The Mission of Holy Family Catholic Parish is to be a welcoming faith community grounded in Gospel values and

dedicated to making God known to our members and all who enter our doors. We foster positive relationships with

God and one another through active participation in the ministries of worship, education, celebration, and service to all.

    WELCOME OUR NEW PARISHIONERS

New to Holy Family? Register by stopping in at the Parish Center or pick up a registration form in the vestibule.

    LENTEN SACRED SPACE

On your walk through Lent this year you can build a sacred space using an object that is a reminder of the Gospels that will be read each of the six weeks of Lent. Starting on Ash Wednesday you will get a piece of burlap as a reminder to step out of your "comfort zone". It is also a call to repentance. Your Sacred Space could be in your home where your family gathers, in your work place, where you do your homework. Spend some time reflecting at your Sacred Space each day as you journey through the Lenten season on the way to the risen Christ.

    STATIONS OF THE CROSS

EACH FRIDAY AT 7 PM CHURCH

Lenten Fasting and Abstinence Regulations All Catholics 14 years and older must abstain from meat on the Fridays of Lent, Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. However, this practice is great for the whole family. All Catholics between ages 18 and 59 are to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. To fast means to eat one full meal. Two smaller meals may also be taken for good health but together they should not equal a full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted; however, liquids including coffee, milk and fruit juices are allowed.

  • GROWING IN FAITH

    The Introductory Rites continued:

GLORIA: A joyful prayer that praises our God. The Gloria is a song, but sometimes it is read, where we praise God and recognize the Father as our heavenly King and Jesus as the Lamb of God. We do not sing or recite the Gloria during Sundays in Advent or Lent.

The Gloria is a prayer that is actually an ancient hymn with three parts. The first part is the song that the shepherds heard sung by a heavenly choir of angels at the birth of Jesus. The second part praises God by recalling all of His attributes. The third part prays to Jesus, asking Him to save us from our sins.

In the coming weeks, our goal is that these thoughts give you a deeper look at what we do as we gather at Mass so that each of us can enter more fully into the Mass each week. These thoughts are a walk through our Catholic Mass — the “Source and Summit” of our Catholic Faith!

IT IS TIME TO START PLANNING HOW YOU AND YOUR FAMILY WILL JOURNEY THROUGHOUT THE 40 DAYS OF LENT Practice almsgiving, fasting and prayer

Decide on an special way of fasting? What extra way might you pray? Accept your copy of The Word Among Us—daily Lenten meditations

Join us in having the Best Lent Ever! Sign-up online at DynamicCatholic.com/Lent Operation Rice Bowl Materials are part of the bulletin this week.

OPENING PRAYER: The opening prayer is the oldest and most important part of the entrance rites. In the earliest centuries, the Mass began with just a period of silent prayer before the reading of the Word of God. Then a sort of opening prayer was added.

First, there is an invitation to prayer: “Let us pray.”

Then a time of short silence during which all present their intentions to God.

Then the presider collects the prayers of all people into one prayer (sometimes called the Collect Prayer.)

Ending with the affirmation of the mediation of Christ “Through Christ Our Lord.” and “AMEN” : which means “It is so” or “May it be so” or quite simply “That’s my Prayer.”

A Catholic Culture of Life Initiative Day 714-

“Let us remember that in war all is lost and in peace nothing. Brothers and sisters, never war! Never war! I think mostly of the children, of those who are deprived of the hope for a dignified life, of a future: dead children, wounded children, maimed children, orphaned children, children who have the remnants of war as toys, children who do not know how to smile. Stop, please! I ask you with all my heart. It is time to stop! Stop, please.” Pope Francis

Gospel Reflection 8th Sunday in Ordinary Time

    February 26th — Matthew 6:24-34

Jesus reassures us that God will always care for us. Reminding us of God’s great love for all of creation, God’s care for the lilies and the birds. Jesus reminds us that we, too, are in God’s hands. Instead of worrying about things, should we not be about God’s work—caring for creation, reaching out to assist in the needs of others?

When you’re worried, what do you do? Because God cares for you, what might you do?

"The new member class for the Junior League will be running a month-long book drive in March to benefit the Children’s Book Bank with the goal of collecting 15,000 books! We are hoping to collect new and gently-used

books through 3 avenues - collection bins in the community, online giving at firstbook.fundly.com/project-branch, and tabling stations at local bookstores.

We are so excited that Holy Family Parish has agreed to house a box in the church vestibule for the month of March. A list of recommended books will be adhered to the front of the bin, however we would be happy with any children's books that you would like to donate. We also know that logistics can be a challenge, so we're happy to support book pick-ups at any location in Portland! Simply email [email protected], and we'll coordinate an appointment with you.

The last day to donate books or financial contributions on firstbook.fundly.com/project-branch, will be Saturday, March 25th. I invite you to learn more about our project by visiting www.juniorleagueofportland.org. Thank you again for all of your support! If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me, Kelley Brandt at [email protected].

Tuesday, March 14th 1 PM to 7 PM

Celebration Hall Be a part of our Holy Family tradition and sign up to donate blood. Each donation has the potential to help 3 people! Appointments can be made by calling our Coordinator Miki Van Houten at 503-771-0309 or 503-475-5772. We need donors to fill the evening appointments.
