Cabot Bluestar (Jiangxi) celebrates its 10th birthday
Ren Jianxin meets with Cabot president
The Cabot Bluestar Chemical (Jiangxi) Co held a ceremony
at Xinghuo Industrial Park, on Oct 8, to celebrate its 10th anniversary. The company was founded in 2004 as a joint venture of Cabot and Bluestar to produce nano-grade, gas-phase silicon dioxide products using leading technology and
trichloromethylsilane (a byproduct of the silicone monomer production process) as raw material, while returning the hydrogen chloride resulting from gas-phase silicon dioxide production to the Xinghuo Silicone Plant as raw material for synthesis of chloromethane. This forms the cycling of chlorine, silicon and hydrogen for a silicon value chain, where resources are utilized between the silicon and gas-phase silicon dioxide industries. Over the past decade, the joint venture has had a synergistic effect and recycling of resources, while annual gas-phase silicon dioxide output has increased to 14,600 tons, from 4,800 tons, making the company the world’s largest gas-phase, silicon dioxide manufacturing center and a model of a recycling economy in Jiangxi province.
ChemChina’s president, Ren
Jianxin, met with the visi t ing p r e s i d e n t a n d C E O o f t h e US’s Cabot, Patr ick Prevost, at ChemChina HQ, on Oct 9, where the two discussed how to improve business management and increase enterprise reforms, as we l l as how to i nc rease cooperation between ChemChina and Cabot in great detail. A 7-person delegation of Qenos experts got a close look at Changyi
Petrochemical’s and other ChemChina companies’ compliance with SHE policy recently, in line with ChemChina’s call to build an SHE management system. Changyi Petrochemical, a pilot company of ChemChina, started its ChemChina SHE management pilot recently, so the delegates spoke with the company’s leaders about production, operations, technology, products and status concerning the SHE system, and looked at the team building and SHE management of production crews responsible for the DCC and reforming plants, spoke to managers and workers on the shop floor either at meetings or individually and gave their opinions on the company's SHE culture and management for furthering the pilot program. As a pilot company it will work towards ChemChina’s objective of building its SHE management and applying the Qenos SHE system to improve its SHE management and other activities.
When the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology published its
2014 list of national technological innovation role models recently, Aeolus Tire was a clear stand-out, gaining another national recognition after being named national corporate technical center, Chinese high-tech enterprise, Chinese quality industrial enterprise benchmark, and state-level IP powerhouse. For the past several years, Aeolus Tire has focused on technological innovation and building its R&D pipeline. The company has 297 national patent applications on file, including 28 for inventions and 11 foreign-related, and has 187 patents approved. The company is the industry’s first to develop a personalized online patent navigation system.
When the list of the global Top 75 tire manufacturers was announced
recently, Aeolus Tire was on it, at 26th place, and Double Happiness Tire, at 46th. The two have made the list many years in a row, with Double Happiness making it back on the list, in 2007, after a product readjustment, and where it stayed among the Top 50 for three years in a row. This year it was one spot above its 2013 ranking.
W h e n H u a x i n g Pe t rochemica l ’s new weighing system went into operation in late August, it meant the completion of three systems -- ration loading, automatic loading and d ispatch ing, and automated weighing – and the integrat ion of related functions and data and information, for a fully automated shipment p la t fo rm w i th a da i l y capacity of more than 23,000 tons. These three systems were said to be the first of their kind at an oil and gas company, mak ing t hem a good reference point for similar companies. These three systems cost 4.3 million yuan($704,000). Statistics indicate a daily shipment increase from 12,000 tons to 20,000 tons on average and more than 40-million yuan in daily sales, as a result. The automation of shipping management also reduces labor costs a lot and has increase the company’s output 10-fold and helped it push its marketing changes effectively.

Recently, when Li and his parents received some ChemChina assistance funds, Li wrote a thank-you letter to express how they feel proud to be a part of the ChemChina family. When Li’s father suffered a serious injury, 10 years ago, that left him unable to use his legs, Li, who was only 4-years-old at the time, learned to take care of his father when his mother was absent, thanks to her influence.

The Zhuzhou Institute’s Li Meihui, who has been recognized as the
best employee of ChemChina, joined more than 10 others in visiting a primary school in the town of Langxi, Hunan province, October 18 - 19, to make a charitable contribution, as part of the institute’s charity initiative. Li donated all of a monetary reward she had gained from the company, of 13,000 yuan($2,100), along with nearly 20,000 yuan donated by 105 institute employees. Part of the funds were used to help poor households and the rest to purchase desks, chairs, musical instruments, uniforms for the school drummers, and other items. Li, who works in a lab, has been helping poor students in three villages in Hunan’s Yongshun county, since 2007. And her charitable impulse has played a model role at the institute, as more employees joined the generosity of their own accord. Li got the ChemChina best employee award, in May 2014. So far, she and her colleagues have given more than 500,000 yuan to around 150 needy students. This is a true sign of how the best ChemChina employees choose to give something back to society, an act that is well received by everyone for its financial assistance to needy students and contribution to the general morality.

I’m a happy little volunteer
I love singing
Catching crabs in Jinni Bay
This painting is a gift that Li Anran, the child of a Changyi Petrochemical employee, intended for a senior citizens nursing home where Anran did volunteer work. Other children volunteered to sing and dance or played a musical instrument for the old people at the home, and some young volunteers presented handmade ornaments as gifts. Anran gave one of his paintings to these elderly folks in hope that they will live longer and that their children will be able to time with them.
I do not love either painting or calligraphy, I love singing. Every Saturday, I go to the children’s culture palace in Wuxi to practice with a chorus, excited and happy, no matter what the weather’s like. Once, I got a fi sh bone stuck in my throat when I was eating fi sh, and it was painful and I couldn’t talk. Nonetheless, I still went to the palace to practice singing. Currently, I practice singing a while every day to keep myself ready, something that some people think is a bit crazy. In fact, I am pushing myself to the highest possible standards. I am a little girl committed to singing.
Several days ago, my mom took me to Jinni Bay in suburban Dongying to catch some crabs. After an hour’s drive, we got there and the place was so fascinating that I couldn’t help yelling. What came into sight fi rst was a sea and red grass on the beach, which extended far beyond the horizon and looked like a red carpet. I picked up a pail and walked on the red carpet barefoot, feeling so good with a spongy feel. Then a sudden pricking brought me back to reality and I saw a little crab waving its big pincers attacking my toes. I attempted to catch it right away with my hands, only to get my index fi nger squeezed by the crab so hard that I yelled out. The more I tried to get away from the pincers, the more pain I felt. It did not let go of my fi ngers until I exhausted my strength pulling it off. After I succeeded in getting it off my fi ngers, I threw it into my pail angrily, saying, “I don’t think you can defeat me,” to comfort myself. After seeing what had happened to me, my mom said patiently, “Catching a crab requires technique. They can’t clamp onto you if you grab them by the lower part of the pincers or by the shell.” She’s right, you know. I tried out what she told me. As we moved on, there was more sand and we caught more crabs, and I picked up many beautiful shells along the way. Several hours passed before we even noticed it, and Mom hurried me back to the shore, which I was reluctant to do until I was exhausted. That night when I got home, I had a sweet dream of being a little fi sh swimming in the endless sea.

Happy work, HealtHy lifeIt’s important for employees to relax through physical exercise sometimes during their off hours. And ChemChina companies encourage their people to work and live in a healthy, civilized, happy way and they like to get them involved in companywide physical exercises, for example, with the Lantern Festival fun game, the employee sports meet on Women’s Day, and outreach training on Youth Day. There are always a variety of ball games, such as basketball, football, ping pong, volleyball, billiards, or badminton that are popular with the
many young employees. And there are various games that have a lot of employees taking part, including blowing up balloon, shuttlecock kicking, running with legs tied together, a newspaper pass-along, and a gesture guessing game. The participants can show what they’re capable of doing during these activities and learn a little more about each other as colleagues, which is very important for a corporate culture of harmony. The idea of happy work and healthy life is shared by all the employees.
