Reflection – Second Week of Advent

This week we faces another budget and we all know that for many life is not easy. We face higher charges, property taxes, and uncertain times ahead. We are asked to give more from a dimishing pot of personal money. We look beyone ourselves to a government that imposes unfair charges on a population that are overstretched and under severe pressure. Many face unemployment, uncertainty and are trying to find hope in a increasing dark and uncertain world. As a communty we have built larger walls of isolation that surround our lives and we find it difficult to find meaning and hope. In all of this we are expected to live, to look for hope and to find the presence of God at work in our in our world. Perhaps this week is a time to be be gently, to STOP and take time to realise that you are a child of God in a very human and broken world. In the sight of God you are precious amd sacred. Seek his support through prayer and look beyond yourself to others, family and friends, for support and encouragement. Find meaning in life, in family and friends. Let this second week of Advent be a place of peace for you. Often what is most precious, most sacred is free – the air we breath, the old Cd we play, the conersations we share and the time we spend in prayer. Perhaps this week is a tiem to look for the good that surrounds each of us. SHORT N SWEETA mother was preparing pancakes for her sons, Kevin, 5, and Ryan, 3. The boys began to argue over who would get the first pancake. Their mother saw the opportunity for a moral lesson. If Jesus were sitting here, He would say, 'Let my brother have the first pancake. I can wait.' Kevin turned to his younger brother and said, 'Ryan, you be Jesus.'*************************A father was at the beach with his children when his four-year-old son ran up to him, grabbed his hand, and led him to the shore, where a seagull lay dead in the sand. 'Daddy, what happened to him?' the son asked 'He died and went to Heaven,' the dad replied.

The boy thought a moment and then said, 'Did God throw him back down?'************************After the church service a little boy told the pastor, 'When I grow up, I'm going to give you some money.' 'Well, thank you,' the pastor replied, 'but why?' 'Because my daddy says you're one of the poorest preachers we've ever had.'
