Dear Parents,

GOLDEN BAY YEAR SIX STUDY TOUR

The year six students continue to share stories about their fabulous experiences

following their Study Tour of Canberra last week.

Russell, Stewart and Deb were very impressed with the students and their thirst for

knowledge, amazing enthusiasm as they engaged with a large variety of places

people and experiences, and how they conducted themselves at all times as young

ambassadors of our school.

Deb is creating a CD with many fabulous pictures taken over the five days away.

SOCCER GOALS

A huge thank you from our kindergarten and Pre-primary students for the new

soccer goals donated by Jeshika and Anish Chand. Our younger students will get

hours of enjoyment from having this new addition to their play area.

BOTANY CLUB

Congratulations to our young Golden Bay Primary School Botanists who are focusing

on sustainable coastal care and Aboriginal Heritage.

Eighteen students from years four and five are currently working with Craig Wilson

from Perth NRM’s Coastcare Program and Sara Metalli (parent and Environmental

Scientist).

Our students are currently identifying and sorting plant samples that were collected

from our local coastline at the end of last year. The samples are being stored in a

herbarium in order to provide a reference for local coastal plant species.

The Botany Club will be setting up a greenhouse at the school and will learn how to

propagate and grow plants for re-vegetation of coastal dunes. In the future there

will be tree planting days at the school and at the local beach.

A recent visit to our dunes saw students checking for changes to the area and

observing significant re-growth of native species following the recent fires. This

was followed by a visit to the Rockingham Men in Trees Plant Nursery to see how

plants are propagated and grown from seeds.

School Car Parks

Thanks to all those parents using the

Tangadee Road and Arizona Parade car

parks. For safety reasons I allocated the

car park at the front of the school on

Thundelarra Drive as a ‘Staff Only’ car

park. A number of families cross the car

park drive area at the start and finish of

school.

I respectfully ask that parents not use this

car park unless they have a child with a

disability requiring close parking.

Positive Behaviour Support

The staff and students are continuing with the implementation of Positive Behaviour Support at Golden Bay Primary School. The Behaviour

Expectations Matrix has been completed and is on display in all learning areas. The next stage involves developing a series of lessons to

explicitly teach and model the behaviour expectations from the

Behaviour Matrix. These lessons will be taught at point of need and will be repeated and reinforced throughout the year, with the expectation that repetition will build fluency. The lessons are adaptable for all age groups from Kindy to Year 6 and will develop a common approach to behaviour support for our school community.

We have provided several new activities and resources to engage

students purposefully and positively during lunch and recess breaks. These activities will occur on a rotational basis and will include: trikes and scooters, dolls, dress-ups, lego, toy cars, trampolines and a giant size chess set.

More activities have been planned for the near future. These activities will encourage students to engage in meaningful play, and develop the values of excellence, respect and integrity in all aspects of their day.

IMMUNISATON

It is a requirement by the Education Department to receive all immun-isation records

from the Australian Childhood Immunisation Register (ACIR) print out. This can be obtained by calling 1800653809.

If your child’s immunisations are not recorded on ACIR it may affect your family payments.

An immunisation provider will assist children not up–to-date or vaccinat-ed overseas to receive

the correct scheduled vaccinations and have their records put on ACIR.

The nurses at the immunisation clinic at Kwinana Community Health 94192266 can also provide this service.

Please ring and book an appointment.

OSHClub News

Before School / After School Care Program

Program Update

Dear Parents and Children.

Welcome back to all our OSHClub family we hope you all had a wonderful holiday break!

Term 2 is well underway and so is our exciting new program at OSHClub, we are still welcoming lots

of new faces into our OSHClub family and are excited for many more to come along and join in with

all the fun we are having before and after school!

A reminder that enrolling you child or children in OSHCLUB is easy and free. All you need to do is

complete an enrolment form on line at www.OSHCLUB.com.au where you will have the option of

booking as either permanent or casual user. I believe this to be beneficial for all families as once

your child is enrolled you then have the comfort of knowing the program is available to you

anytime should any unforeseen circumstance arise. It also gives you the assurance that your child

or children will be cared for in safe, warm and friendly environment.

Please drop in and say Hello in Teaching Block 4

Opening hours are 7am to 9.00am and 2.15pm to 6pm.

We are currently updating our records and enrolments so there may be some forms that we need to

update and have parents sign over the next few weeks.

Also our lost property box is starting to over flow, so if your child is missing a hat or jacket feel free to

pop into Block 4 and have a look through if your child is missing an item.

RECYCLABLES WANTED

If you have any recyclable items laying around the house that could be used in our construction cre-

ating, feel free to drop them off at block 4. These items can include egg cartons, boxes, bottles, jars,

newspaper etc.
