“Today is a good day, today is August 8, 2018, so it’s 8/8/18. For us, it means it will go very well. And then today it’s going to be 99 degrees, so it’s going to go very well forever. Today is indeed a wonderful day.
After 35 years, we will finally claim our birthright of nobility and become a model for those who will follow, including the person watching us in the mirror, and one day, we will look at ourselves in the mirror.
What will we see?
We will see ourselves with people of all cultures, walking on this bridge together, eating lunches, practicing Tai Chi, taking lessons together.
We will see the mentally ill smile.
We will see little children running, dancing, laughing.
If that is not enough to see, what is?
Thank you for coming.”

BUILD THIS WITH US DONOR TILE WALL
“What the poor need is not charity but capital, not caseworkers but coworkers. And what the rich need is a wise, honorable and just way of divesting themselves of their overabundance.” - Clarence Jordan.
Asian Health & Service Center’s programs are funded through diverse funding partners, including state and county contracts, foundations, and generous donors. Thanks to them, we are able to provide health services to the men, women, and children in our community who need it most. Our center has become home to many and our mission is to demonstrate love and kindness to all.
But as our clients and needs increase, we continue to develop new programs. This year, we are launching our Love and Kindness Donor Wall campaign to help fund new programs as well as support our increased services to new members. Needs are growing, but we cannot wait. We invite you to support and help us bring hope to those who need it.

CELEBRATE CULTURES AND DIVERSITY
COMPASSIONATE SERVING
Love and kindness can be illustrated through...A gathering place where people see it like
a home away from home, or celebrating the beauty of cultures despite diversity, or activities that enable and
empower individuals, and compassionate serving.

18YU MIAO CHINESEIMMERSION PRESCHOOL
A real story of Love and Kindness…Because of unconditional love from three families, Yu Miao Chinese Immersion Preschool was established in 1999.
The three families not only adopted their daughters from China, out of their love and kindness, they asked the Center to organize a playgroup for their daughters and hope that will help theirdaughters be proud of being bicultural and bilingual when they grow up.
Yu Miao ‘育苗’in Chinese means “carefully planting and nurturing young sprouts.” Give them good nutrition, and they will grow into great plants. Children are like young sprouts, too.Nurturing them early will help them become great people.
With the encouragement and inspiration of love from more families, Yu Miao expanded and was certified by the State as a Chinese Immersion Preschool and a Day Care Center with afterschoolprograms for K-3 rd Grade students since 2007. The preschool is located in Our Lady of Sorrows Parish Catholic School on 5239 SE Woodstock Blvd. The school has spacious classrooms, a hugegymnasium, private courtyard, outdoor playground and most importantly, a team of teachers serving with compassion and love. For further information and enrollment please visit our website atwww.ahscpdx.org/yumiao.html or send email inquiries to Principal Terry Yang at [email protected] or call (503)775-3767.

19 ENVISIONING THE NEW PROGRAMS
The new building, House of Love and Kindness in Lents provides us with more space for program expansion, here is what we are envisioning …
One Stop location for Fully Integrated and Holistic Care …
Family Practice / Primary Care Clinic will be provided on site in partnership with Rosewood Family Health at Lents
• Will serve everyone • Ages 0 to old age • With or without insurance • Regardless of
• Ability to pay • Language • Race/ethnicity • Sexual orientation & gender identity
Affordable Housing with added services targeting to Asian Residents…72Foster
REACH and AHSC have been working together for several years to identify a location for affordable housing that can serve low-income families and seniors of the Asian community as well as all other income-eligible members of the public.
72Foster was identified as an ideal candidate due to its proximity to AHSC new community center and clinic in Lents Town Center, just a mile down Foster Road from the 72Foster site.
The two organizations have partnered to connect senior residents of affordable housing with health services.
The design of this plan has been a collaborative effort by REACH and AHSC, starting with input on the design of the community and office space and units, Leasing Plan and Service Plan provided by representatives from the Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese communities at three community forums. We are embarking on a new model to provide culturally appropriate services onsite and through connection to the new AHSC health clinic and community center.
Transportation Services in partnership with Ride Connection…
Transportation is a barrier for low-income households in accessing healthy food options, medical care, and to being active and involved in their community.
AHSC has partnerships with Ride Connection and will offer culturally sensitive door-to-door service for health care appointments, group activities and events. Ride Connection will offer AHSC a 14 passenger vehicle to pilot the new transportation service to reduce social isolation, better access to community resources and promote active living.
