R PeopleI was reflecting over the recent bank holiday – enjoying my   “Me Time” and “ Down Time “ I mentioned recently that I was in Australia, visiting my family and friends and I realised how much I missed them and how great it felt to be around them.

When things are tough, whether work or personally, it’s so great to just spend time with people who are important to you, support and encourage you and those you can just be yourself around. It makes you realise what’s really significant and what matters in life.

It was actually a bit tough going back to Australia and for the first time ever not having any grandparents to visit as my last living nan passed earlier this year. So I know holidays bring up different things for different people, sometimes in London for me it can be lonely as I have no family here hence I travel so much. Something I love and enjoy.

Everyone likes to do different things and I think it is important to keep this in mind - spending time with family and friends, going for a walk or ride, reading, or even sitting on a couch and watching bad TV – whatever you choose, just make sure it is something for you.

My friends become my family here and I love to chill and spend time with them. I am so lucky we have WhatsApp, Skype, Viber and Facetime as it makes it much easier to keep in contact with friends and family abroad.

So think about what are you going to do for your next bank holiday. You all work so hard so how are you going to recharge and rest and enjoy your time off?

Switch off, tune out, no emails, no Blackberries – easier said than done – I have always found it difficult I never know how to turn off.

When I was in Oz, my mum would say “You are always on your phone, you only have two weeks with us, can you give us YOU, your attention and time” and I realised she was absolutely right I owe both my family and me that.

If you don’t take a break then you don’t feel like you’ve had a holiday or rest and we all need it or we get exhausted and burn out. Exercise, read, meditate, listen to music, cook, garden, a nice glass of wine maybe – as I said everyone is different and relaxes and chills in different ways.

So whether the weekend, a bank holiday, or annual leave – take time out for you and enjoy.

Toni-sue Morris at Evans Business Centres shares a story from the Nottingham Post from one of their clients who have mentioned how we have helped them grow and develop their business.

Evans Easyspace, Boughton

A haulage firm that helped to build Wembley Stadium and the Olympic Park has reached a milestone turnover figure of £2m – despite never having agreed a contract. Munson Transport, which also delivered materials during the construction of Arsenal FC’s Emirates Stadium, has grown annually since it was set up more than 20 years ago by Jim Munson with a single pick-up truck.

The firm, based at Boughton Industrial Estate, has attributed its success to flexibility in terms of the companies it works with and its office space. James Munson, one of Mr Munson’s three children who has now taken over running the business, said: “Transport companies usually run on contracts to guarantee work but it’s something we’ve never done because we don’t like to put all our eggs in one basket. If you have one customer that’s predominantly 75 percent of your turnover and something happens to your customer then you have no business left. So we just spread everything out across lots of different clients.”

The company was established by Jim Munson in 1993 and now boasts a 20-strong fleet of 7.5 tonne flatbed trucks, which deliver building materials such as steel and glass from warehouses to construction sites. It works with 300 customers across the UK and employs 25 staff. Mr Munson believes it has also benefited from renting space at the industrial estate, owned by Evans Easyspace.

He added: “We’ve come a long way since my dad operated with one small lorry and ran the business side of things from his conservatory. We have grown consistently year-on-year since the days when my dad started the firm, and to reach the £2m turnover figure is a tremendous boost for us. Our decision to rent space from Evans rather than owning our own premises has helped us to grow. We have been able to expand the space we take as our needs change. Initially, we were sharing a small yard but today we have our main office, a storage warehouse and two outside yards – one of which houses our fleet.” Projects the firm has worked on include a new restaurant at Ascot Racecourse, universities,

power stations, the United States embassy and glass frontage on shops in St Pancras railway station.

But working on sports stadiums and sites has perhaps instilled the most pride for Munson Transport, which is currently working on Tottenham Hotspur’s new ground.

Daniel Munson said: “A stonemason who used to be based in our industrial estate created some ‘Arsenal’ lettering that is used outside one of the entrances to the Emirates Stadium, and we delivered it for them. The stadium construction was such a big job and it was great to think that two small companies in Boughton were responsible for that. We also took out every hand dryer in the toilets, as well as glass and seats. When Wembley was being built we had wagons down there most days over eight or nine months. It’s great to be involved in stuff like that and gives you a lot of pride. I’ve been to the Emirates since and seen the ‘Arsenal’ writing. I’ll tell my mates we brought this down here and half of them don’t believe me.” Daniel Munson

The team at Stansted have spent years building a warm and welcoming business centre and we are very excited to become a Regus centre.

With this, comes the challenges of migrating to the Regus systems, hours of learning new methods of operations and processes, as well as the natural worries and frustrations which come with this process.

However nearby in Cambridge, one of our Coaching Community Managers is on hand to help. Dale Brassington of Cambridge, East Road has been working with us at Stansted to ensure our migration has been as smooth as possible.

Dale has experienced this type of migration before, with his centre previously being an MWB centre, so he continuously assures us that all will go well. Dale is always available to come to our centre to lend a helping hand – even on his days off! And always at the end of the phone to talk us through step by step what we need to do and best of all he always ensures that we remain positive, calm and confident during these times.

From all of us at Stansted, we want to say a huge thank you to Dale for all his efforts so far and for his continued support in the upcoming months ahead.

“ We enjoyed a fantastic breakfast morning in Regus Lombard Street networking our made to measure suits for its clients.

Thank you to the amazing Regus team for your help and allowing us this opportunity.”

How long have you been at Regus? Since July 2013 (2 ½ years).

What role did you start with? CSR.

How did you progress? I progressed within the business thanks to my General Manager as a CSR, Lesley was a great mentor to me and encouraged me to continue to learn as well as self-taught on some subjects with the assistance of ROLA.

What does it take to develop your career? Continued support from line management and structured feedback and training opportunities.

What do you love most about your job? I love the variety that my role has from day to day and the interaction with so many different people.

What do you most dislike about your job? Completing the H&S folder!

What do you love about your coaching role? I love seeing people develop and bringing their personality out of them. It gives a great sense of pride and achievement when I see an inductee taking in processes and being able to go back into their own centres and flying the nest by themselves. There is nothing better than seeing someone you have trained grab the opportunity with both hands and run with it.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years? I hope to continue to develop my career within Regus to either Area Manager or another role which involves supporting centre teams with training or operation type requests. There are so many opportunities with Regus.

What are your passions outside of Regus? I am very into my arts and crafts, candle making is my most recent project.

What’s one talent you wish you had? To be able to sing!

What’s on your bucket list? To do a skydive.

When did you start? August 2015.

What were you doing before? I was the Customer Service Manager for Sonoma Baking Company in Sydney Australia.

What do you love most about your job? Meeting and greeting the clients and getting to know them on a personal level.

What’s the funniest experience you’ve had with a client? I ended up on a blind date with a client’s sibling (unknowingly of course) it was a bit awkward and funny at the same time LOL!

What are your passions outside of Regus? I love cooking. My specialty is crispy skin pork belly with chilli caramel, with sweet potato mash and parmesan with a dash of truffle oil, and Chinese broccoli with crushed garlic and oyster sauce.

What’s one talent you wish you had? I wish I could sing.

What’s on your bucket list? Trek Machu Picchu and climb the Great Wall of China.

How long have you been at Regus? One month, since 17th February.

Why did you join?   I’ve always wanted to step into corporate London, in a fast pace environment, so I took the opportunity when it appeared.  Upon researching Regus, I felt like it was a company I could learn a lot from and grow with.

What were you doing before? Before working  at Regus I worked within my family’s business consultancy company in Essex. Prior to doing this, I spent a couple years as a  chaperone to my younger brother, who used to compete in Go- Kart competitions throughout Europe. This experience was amazing as I got to travel and meet some intriguing people. Alongside this, I used to care for my grandmother as her part-time carer.

Tell me about your training and induction? It was an intense but fun period where I learnt a lot and gained motivation to succeed in everything I do.

What have you learnt most since joining? I’ve learnt that no two days are the same and that I need to be prepared for anything that comes my way at any given moment.

What does customer service mean to you?  Customer service is the heart and soul of a company. Within Regus I aim to provide excellent customer service as I expect it when I am a customer ‘ treat others how you would like to be treated’.

What do you do when you are not working? When not working I teach myself photography and video editing .

What talent do you have that people are not aware of? Well its been said that my singing voice resembles the late great Luther Vandross.

Your motto in life is? Treat others how you would like to be treated.

What is on your bucket list that you are yet to fulfil? Allow my mother to retire  and attend the Brazilian Carnival.

Our Colleagues out of work•

Some of you will be aware that last year I ran my 1st London marathon and managed with incredible support from friends, colleagues and customers to raise just under £4,000 for Macmillan Cancer Research.  Never one to turn down a challenge I have decided to do it all again and 8 weeks today I will take on the 26.2 miles once again.

This year I am running for a much smaller charity called Anthony Nolan, please take a few moments to hover over their charity icon on my fund raising page and read a snapshot of the wonderful work they do to save the lives of people with blood cancer. Every £100 I raise will recruit and maintain a potential blood stem cell or bone marrow donor to their register, simple equation... the more donors the better chance of a match and saving lives !

Last year I ran the 26.2 in 3hr 51. In 2016 I hope to raise the same amount for Anthony Nolan and will I promise try my hardest to break 3hr 40. (That’s around 8 min a mile) I can assure you the training alone is worth the donation let alone the hurt on the day... but remember every penny you donate and every mile I run will truly help Anthony Nolan continue to support people with blood cancer, help their families and aid research.

My sincere thanks, please dig deep and think BIG!
