Protective casing

For protection against mechanical damage as well as dusty and moist industrial

atmospheres, we offer a series of protective casings for all types of transducers; these

protective casings can partly be equipped with gear heads and limit switches, with a

degree of protection up to IP 68 (see data sheet “protective casings”).

Transducers of this type are predominantly used in commercial vehicles for

sensing the position of steering type axles or the angle of the articulated

arm of excavators.

For such measurement tasks transducers without a shaft exit are used.

Transducers with shaft exit also contain a hermetically encapsulated

electronic unit (see sectional view).

Such transducers are frequently used in water supply and distribution, e.g.

for sensing the position of mitre gates, weir gates and similar facilities.

Optoelectronic angular position transducers are high-resolution

measuring systems, available in a single- and multi-turn version, with low

temperature coefficient, outputting digitally coded angular position signals.

Single-turn transducers are used e.g. in the railway vehicle domain in con-

nection with traction switches on cranes as slewing ring transmitters.

Multi-turn transducers are preferably used together with rope length measur-

ing systems on hauling plants, bearer cable winches of crane systems or in

the field of machine tool engineering for sensing the tool position.

For measuring angular positions and converting them into electrical signals

for teletransmission purposes, either potentiometric (see data sheet

”precision rotary potentiometer“), inductive, magnetoresistive, incre-

mentally or absolutely coded angular position transducers can be used

according to the particular application.

They serve e.g. for recording the position of:

• weir gates and segmental valves

• valves and control drives

• ship’s engine telegraphs and rudder mechanisms

• swing gears and lifting gears of cranes

preferably used on measuring points, which are exposed to extreme

vibration or shock or to aggressive atmospheres.

This applies mainly to measurement problems one is confronted with in

energy industry and chemical plants, for instance while measuring the

actual value of the position of variable speed drives, or of machines in

paper-processing and textile industry, while measuring the position of

dancer rollers and very frequently in pendulum systems for measuring tilt

angles on cranes and excavators.

measuring systems without a shaft exit, fully hermetically encapsulated and

capable of measuring contactless the angular position of a permanent

magnet, which is attached to the measuring object.

Optoelectronic transducer systems

are available as models of synchro size 23, incremental and absolute coded

design.

Incremental systems convert the angle to be measured into a proportional

number of pulses, appearing in two tracks A and B with an offset of 90° for

identification of direction. Absolute coded systems are available as single- and

multi-turn encoders.

They contain a Gray-coded rotating disk with 12 concentric tracks, which are

optically scanned by infrared light emitting diodes and phototransistors.

Signal output can be either parallel via NPN or PNP transistors or analogue,

via a digital-to-analogue converter (DAC) with current output 4 – 20 mA.

All transducers can also be supplied, with field bus interface CANopen

standard and in a user-specific data format respectively.

Magnetoresistive transducer systems

are available as models of synchro size 23, optionally with or without driving

shaft (see dimensional drawing).

They are fully enclosed in an aluminium casing and contain a high-precision

magnetoresistive angular position sensor.

This sensor provides a sine/cosine signal, which depends on the direction of

the magnetic field of a permanent magnet.

A special integrated circuit converts the sine/cosine signal into an analogue

or digital signal, which is proportional to the angle.

A built-in micro controller provides for linearization, calculation of an

adjustable zero offset (zero referencing) and error control procedure.

Inductive transducer systems

are available as models of synchro size 20 (series 6.20) and synchro

size 23 (series 1023). They contain a differential inductor, realized in form of a

ring winding with a non-contact tapping.

The electrical output signals representing zero and final value of the

mechanical drive shaft angle are adjustable within a broad range of limits

via trimming potentiometers of the built-in or separate electronics.

For applications in potentially explosive installations, transducer systems

as well as electronic components are available with a degree of protection

EEx and Exd with ATEX-Approval.

Magnetoresistive transducer systems

are available as models of synchro size 23, optionally with or without driving

shaft (see dimensional drawing).

They are fully enclosed in an aluminium casing and contain a high-precision

magnetoresistive angular position sensor.

This sensor provides a sine/cosine signal, which depends on the direction of

the magnetic field of a permanent magnet.

A special integrated circuit converts the sine/cosine signal into an analogue

or digital signal, which is proportional to the angle.

A built-in micro controller provides for linearization, calculation of an

adjustable zero offset (zero referencing) and error control procedure.

Inductive transducer systems

are available as models of synchro size 20 (series 6.20) and synchro

size 23 (series 1023). They contain a differential inductor, realized in form of a

ring winding with a non-contact tapping.

The electrical output signals representing zero and final value of the

mechanical drive shaft angle are adjustable within a broad range of limits

via trimming potentiometers of the built-in or separate electronics.

For applications in potentially explosive installations, transducer systems

as well as electronic components are available with a degree of protection

EEx and Exd with ATEX-Approval.
