G.’ which involved constructing rudimentary water transfer setup and a bot race. FACE and Sankhya conducted ‘Detective Quest’ which comprised of a treasure hunt and a game of tech taboo while JIDO hosted ‘Strong Arm’, an event which tested the mechanical basics of the participants. IEEE-RAS and Ingenium came together to host ‘Tech Sparks’ as a part of which the teams had to build a Da Vinci bridge, a self-supporting structure made of small wooden sticks.

The top three teams were selected for the flagship event which arrived under the banner of ‘Stupid Theory’.

Each team received a problem statement which proposed an unscientific theory and a power point presentation that contained a simple questionnaire. The solutions to the questions steered the teams towards a logical explanation that justified the ‘Stupid Theory’. Each team was required to give a 5-minute presentation on its cogitations and were judged based on the criteria of spontaneity and relevance to the topic.

The eventful day concluded with the declaration of winners and the organizing team thanking the faculty

Break Through - IEEE WIE EVENT IEEE WIE (student affinity group- SBA63931) in Collaboration with IEEE-PELS, IEEE-PES, IEEE WIE, IEEE COMSOC, Amrita School of Engineering, Bengaluru organized a technical fun event ‘Break Through’ as a part of Prabidhi on 2nd March, 2018 at Amrita School of Engineering, Bengaluru. Prabidhi is a tech day exclusively conducted for students every year by the Amrita School of Engineering. Teams comprised of 3 members. This was basically a fun event. In First Round, one of participant was asked a question based on general knowledge. Numbers from 0 to 9 were placed vertically on the wall and a puzzle reference sheet was given to the participants. The participant who was asked the question showed the answer to the other two by pointing a pointer that was connected to the rotating arm. With the help of the puzzle reference sheet the other two participants answered the question. In the Second round, a maze was placed vertically. Two magnets were placed on either side of the maze such a way that they were attached magnetically. The team mates were expected to guide one of the team members to bring the magnet out of the maze. The Third Round was called Kill the Buzzer, which was a buzzer round. One among the team members was asked to pick a name card which consisted of some technical names. The teammates were allowed to discuss on the name card for 30 seconds and the one who took the name card is asked to stand in a circle known as ‘Red Zone’. The other teammates were supposed to bring the clues related to that name card in 2mins. Person within the red zone, arranged the clues with the wires collected from his teammates to form a circuit in a way that the buzzer is switched OFF. The Technical Fun Event earned a good response from all the participants who in turn requested us to

conduct more programs in future. The importance of IEEE membership was highlighted in the same program. A

total number of 68 teams participated in the event.

Ms. Anjana Jain reviewed seven papers for International Journal of Emerging Electric Power Systems (Special Issue 2018), De Gruyter Publisher.

Two-day workshop on BIPED ROBOT JIDO, the Industrial Automation Club, hosted a two-day workshop on BIPED ROBOT on the 3rd and 4th of March 2018 at Amrita School of Engineering, Bengaluru. 95 students from all the branches participated in the event at Sudhamani hall. Contestants were allowed to participate in teams of utmost 4. The main objective of the ses-sion was to familiarize the students with the working of servo motors and their applications in a BIPED ROBOT. Mr. Nishanth Singh, a trainer at Protex Electrical Supplies Limited instructed the stu-dents during the workshop. He proposed several challenges and motivated them by announc-ing a merit certificate for winners sponsored by IIT Kharagpur. The students were introduced to the basics of Arduino and Servo Programming which

were medium for regulating the input and the motion of the robot respectively. Mr. Nishanth

enlightened the participants on the various applications of Arduino and Servo motors in

today’s technological era. Further he familiarized the participants with the components required for the construction of the robot. The participants spent the day implementing

distinct codes, verifying the output through a rheostat and mastering the servo programming.

Second day witnessed a practical hands-on session of the assembling of the robot. The teams

soldered their respective PCB’s, constructed their own robots. Mr. Nishanth then expounded the code for the smile, the movement of the robot and the Bluetooth control of the robot.

The participants uploaded the code on their respective Arduino boards and verified the

movement and the smile using a 3*3 LCD matrix. They examined the Bluetooth control of

the robot. Merit certificates were given to the teams with the best code for controlling a servo

motor with the application of a rheostat and with the best swift movement of the BIPED RO-

BOT.

The workshop ended on a high note with Mr. M.V. Rayudu (S6-ME), Joint Secretary present-ing the vote of thanks and the students look forward for many such workshops.

Internmela Amrita Center for Entrepreneurship, the E-cell of

Amrita School of Engineering, Bengaluru, organised its flagship event, Internmela on 17th March 2018, at Amrita School of Engineering, Bengaluru. The Event started off with registrations for students and companies that arrived for the event. Then it moved on with the inauguration ceremony. The ceremony was auspiciously started by light-ing of the lamp by Mr. Amanulla Khan, the chief guest, (an Entrepreneur, a business coach and consultant), Mr. Balakrishnan, (Vice HOD, CIR) , Capt. Rajiv Sood, (HOD, CIR) and Mrs. Amrita Verma, Mentor of ACE Club (Soft skills trainer, CIR dept.). The secretary of the club, Mr. Ashwin Krithik M. (S6-ME), then took over to give a speech that highlighted the importance of the rela-tionship between startups and interns. The audience was then inspired by the speech of the keynote speaker, Mr. Amanulla Khan. He spoke about different aspects of life, different experiences in life and about things that would make all the difference between a successful person and an unsuccessful person. As the inauguration ended the companies went to conduct interviews as the students went on to attend them. A new concept of scanning QR codes was introduced to let the students join respective groups where they were informed about the companies throughout the day. Some companies conducted tests and exams before qualifying students to interviews and some companies took interviews directly while some companies conducted group inter-views. Each company was taken care of individually and specifically, throughout the day, by their assigned start-up assistant. Each company was felicitated with a certificate and a memento. A total count of 43 companies arrived for the event and a number nearing 650 students attended the interviews. The event went on smoothly throughout the day with the coordination between the event organisers and the volunteers. The event ended on a good note. More than 200 students have been selected for in-ternships. Results from few more companies are awaited. Internmela has not only helped the students to get internships but also has helped them to understand them-selves better on the level of formal interactions with profes-sionalism within them.
