The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is designing improvements for the Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue (9th Avenue East) and 15th Street East intersection. The primary purpose of this project is to improve traffic flow and provide safe pedestrian access along both corridors. FDOT will consider two designs. One design includes new left turn lanes on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue onto 15th Street East. The other design considers a roundabout at this intersection. Both options require right-of-way acquisition.

The project also includes design to add sidewalk at the following locations:

The project also includes pedestrian ramps to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines.

The project replaces the existing Manatee County Area Transit (MCAT) transit stop on the northwest corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and 16th Street East.

• East side of 15th Street East from Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue to 8th Avenue East• North side of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue between 15th Street East and 16th Street

East • On turn lane option, south side of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue between 15th Street

East and 14th Street Court East.
