Setup You start to set the board up by having a black square in the corner to your left then put the eight pawns on the row second closest to you then on the back row put two rooks in either corner a Knight next to each one of them and a bishop next to the knights then put the queen on the tile it shares a colour with (I.e: white queen on white square) and the king next to that

Pawns

Pawns are a really important part of the game the are Your foot solders, you first line of defence, you last resort. You Have eight pawns and are almost alwaysthe first Casualties. They can move 1 square forward and one or two space forward on their first Move. they can only take other piece diagonally. If you get a pawn to the other side of the board you can swap it for any other typeof piece which has been taken. Its points value is one

Knights

Knights are interesting pieces there movement Patten is completely different to all the other Chess pieces. This can be good as well as bad it is good when you need something which can avoid all pieces on the board because its move are so strange it can be a difficult piece to master three

oneway and then one on the end of the line like so (see lower image)

Bishops

Bishops are my least favourite piece this is because you can forget about them easily And then lose vital pieces. This can also be an advantage but you have to rely on Your opponent to make a mistake or get trapped because each bishop canmove only on one colour respectively this can lead to many complications

RooksRooks are also commonly called castles But the correct term is defiantly rook or the plural rooks. Rooks have very straight forward moves the can move any amount of squares up down left or right they are quite difficult to get out of the back row because of a certain bishop move. RooksAre probably the best pieces to take bishops with.

Queens

Queens are the most versatile precise but because you only have one its a very horrible piece to lose and it is difficult to win a game if you lose your queen before theirs but it is still possibly. Queens are effectively a rook and a bishop in one because it can move any amount of spaces diagonally but as many up down left and right as well. Queens can only move

in one direction per turn

Kings Kings are by far the most important pieces in chess the hole game rests upon the forced taking of a king. Kings have the same moves as queens except theycan only move one square per move In order to cheque a king you have to move a piece into a position in which it has the ability to take it in next move your opponent will then have no choice but to move away from the danger is the king is unable to move away this is called checkmate in other words you win
