A Better Way to Integrate SAP and Excel Webinar Q&A
June 20, 2013
2A Better Way to Integrate SAP and Excel
Q: How is this spreadsheet created? Or does it come with Winshuttle?
A: The author typically works with a blank Excel workbook and uses the record-map-run process to embed an SAP Transaction script in the workbook. From there it can be distributed as a template to other users.
Q: How effective is this tool for initial data loads for brand new implementations. And for transactional data?
A: Extremely effective. There are several case studies on our website covering these scenarios. Also keep an eye out for future webinars specifically focused on finance.
Q: So the Mass Update capability could also be used to make updates to payscale tables?
A: Yes.
Q: When creating a script we need to enter a value for the field we are trying to capture. With a field that is grayed out we cannot enter any data. So how do I tell Winshuttle to read that field?
A: You can use the GUI scripting recording mode and it has that ability. You can find more information about GUI Scripting on http://wise.winshuttle.com/.
Q: I am interested in looking at some HCM transaction scripts - PA30, PA40, etc. Can you pls point me to where I might find them?
A: There are some examples available in our knowledge base at http://wise.winshuttle.com/. You can also contact us at [email protected] to arrange for a demo.
Q: If we have existing business processes in e.g. Visio can we import into workflow?
A: At this time we do not have native import capabilities for workflow.
Q: Can Winshuttle interface between CRM or Salesforce.com and SAP ?
A: Winshuttle does work with CRM but there is currently no native interface between systems.
Q: Can Winshuttle work with APO DP module?
A: Yes We can work with APO
Q: Can we create our own templates for specific T-Codes or processes?
A: Yes. You can embed one or more scripts in a template and use it to standardize a process across users.
Q: How do you enter multiple values in the required field, for example MRP Controller?
A: You would have built the input field differently, possibly using a list
Q: Where do you select the option to create a back-up tab when running a mass upload?
A: In the Advanced run options.
Q: I noticed the reference to Workflow. Is there a need to have OM implemented to allow for the workflow within SAP.
A: No, OM is not required. The demoer is referring to Winshuttle Workflow, not SAP’s workflow.
Q: For Winshuttle Query, do you write the scripts the same as in Winshuttle Transaction?
A: We refer to the Query building process as “Select-Map-Run,” since the builder is often working in a data table, rather than in the SAP GUI. But it is very similar and once again does not require programming to generate the script.

Q: Does Winshuttle Query support table joins?
A: Yes
Q: When Winshuttle Query pulls a master data record from SAP; would it warn if the record is currently in use by someone else?
A: No, Query is simply reading the data.
Q: Do users have to have the record privilege within SAP to perform the recording?
A: Winshuttle inherits SAP security policies, so the user needs to have SAP access to the t-code or table
Q: Why does the user have to logon multiple times?
A: Each time you go run the script you are starting a new session requiring a new logon.
Q: Is it possible to allow a “one-time” log in or something like that, or does the SAP credential window come up each time no matter what?
A: You must log in each time. You can have an Auto logon file that you would use for scheduled runs, but again it needs to authenticate in each session.
Q: Are you leveraging SM35 to create the recording and then exporting the recording from SAP to setup Winshuttle?
A: No, it is an RFC connection
Q: What is your licensing structure and cost?
A: Information on our Connect Licensing program is available on our website. For specific discussions of cost and licensing options, please contact your Winshuttle sales rep or email [email protected].
Q: How can I get access to Winshuttle products? Is there training for Winshuttle products?
A: Trial versions of products are available on a limited basis. Please email [email protected] for more details. For training options, please visit the Global Training section on our website.
Q: We already have and use Winshuttle TRANSACTION. Is a separate license needed for the other Winshuttle capabilities demonstrated today?
A: There are many licensing options. Contacting your Account Manager from Winshuttle and they can give you all the options.
Q: Are there any available quick references?
A: The Products section on our website has brief overviews of the different components.
