A Big Thank You!
I want to express thanks for the wonderful welcome you have given me and
my family. The first worship service and the gi+ of a beauful stole were
a tremendous blessing. The ice cream social was a fantasc me to get be,er
acquainted with many of you. The renovated offices have been a marvelous
bonus, too. I’m very fortunate to serve as a pastor at Lovely Lane UMC.
Now I have tried to spend my first month learning about the excing ministries
at Lovely Lane . . . and there are many! The Capital Campaign team has been
working hard to move to the final stage that includes foyer and sanctuary
improvements. This group is anxious to share their progress a+er worship on
August 26. The Trinity Lane Preschool move to St. Ludmila is also well underway.
The new site will be up and running this fall. I was impressed with a recent site
visit to the new place. Many people have been working hard to make this
transion possible. Addionally, I might li+ up the compleon of Vacaon Bible
School and the fun theme, “Rolling River Rampage.” It was great to see so many
people step forward and assist children in the church and community.
Moving ahead to the fall, I’m looking forward to Sunday School resuming as well
as many of the study groups normally available. I am eager to lead the Adult Explo
group on Wednesday nights with an addional me tentavely scheduled for
Sunday nights. A parcipant could join the study on either night.
It is a great me to be in ministry at Lovely Lane. Pastor Jenny and I are filled with
enthusiasm as we connue to learn about everything going on and the numerous
ways we can further the great ministry taking place.
A scripture reading I have been reflecng on at this me is Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust
in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your
ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.” (NIV) Relying on
the Lord, I joyfully carry forward with each of you. God is so good! A Thousand
Blessings to each of you! Sco,
P.S. Huge thanks for wearing nametags on Sunday mornings - so helpful!

EAST CENTRAL DISTRICT UMW MISSION STUDY DAY
Tuesday, August 28th
9 am - 2:30 pm
Asbury UM Church
350 27th Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids
The theme for this workshop is: "WHAT ABOUT OUR MONEY? A FAITH RE-
SPONSE.” This study, which had been presented at Mission U, will be led by Mis-sion U instructor, Connie Dicks. This study explores how we understand money in context of our faith. Economic Justice is one of our four UMW Mission Priorities for this quadrennial. The focus of this study is both personal and communal. It ex-plores our own relationship with money, money choices available to us, and how we respond to economic inequalities in light of our faith.
For this workshop, each carload of participants are invited to bring a salad to share for lunch. For more information and to make reservations, please contact Cheryl Murphy (377-6205).
LOVELY LANE'S UMW is not meeting dur ing the summer . We invite all women of our church to join us on Thursday, Sept. 13th, at 6:30 pm when we’ll re-sume meeting for the fall. We plan to watch a movie at our 1st meeting, the topic of which will be announced in the September newsletter.
We’d like to provide the women of Lovely Lane the opportunity to grow spiritually within a loving, caring fellowship, and we welcome all women to join with us! Please help yourself to a 2018 program book, have a good rest of the summer, and we look forward to seeing you this fall!
UMW TUESDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY
In May, we had just started to look into the Gospel of John. Due to our taking a summer break, we don’t meet again until Sept. 11th, when we’ll continue our study and again meet weekly Tuesdays from 9:30 - 11:15 AM. Our group meets in Fire-side, except on the third Tuesday of the month when we move to the Library (due to Justice For Our Neighbors needing Fireside that day). We invite you to join with us next fall! We now not only LUG OUR MUGS, BUT ALSO FILL THEM AT HOME; SO, DO COME PREPARED WITH YOUR FAVORITE BEVERAGE IN HAND. If you have any questions, call Cheryl Murphy (377-6205).

AllIReallyNeedToKnow
ILearnedInKindergartenby Robert Fulghum
Most of what I really need
To know about how to live
And what to do and how to be
I learned in kindergarten.
Wisdom was not at the top
Of the graduate school mountain,
But there in the sandpile at Sunday school.
ThesearethethingsIlearned:
Share everything.
Play fair.
Don't hit people.
Put things back where you found them.
Clean up your own mess.
Don't take things that aren't yours.
Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody.
Wash your hands before you eat.
Flush.
Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you.
Live a balanced life -
Learn some and think some
And draw and paint and sing and dance
And play and work everyday some.
Take a nap every afternoon.
When you go out into the world,
Watch out for traf*ic,
Hold hands and stick together.
Be aware of wonder.
REMINDER TO SNOWBIRDS

PRAYING OUR WAY
FORWARD
On February 23-26, the General Confer-
ence Special Session will vote on how
our United Methodist denominaon will
go forward on the issues of LGTBQ
church weddings and ordinaons. The
Council of Bishops has proposed a way
that allows for individual churches and
pastors to make their own choices while
remaining a connected denominaon.
Bishop Laurie asks that we pray our way
forward so we might be One in Christ.
To honor her request, please PAUSE
AND PRAY daily ll Feb. 26 for our
church’s mission and way forward. Pray
between 2:23-2:26 AM or PM, OR at
another 1me. You might spend 1 mi-
