I have a strong bias that individuals should use their unique skills and experience to impact an organization. While cash resources are always important, we desperately need people's knowledge, skills and experience to come up with new solutions to old problems.

OUR PLEDGE COMPANIESWho has taken the pledge?

What does it mean to pledge?

• More than 30% of the Fortune 100

•Growing small business community

•Representing all fields and sectors

•All committed to growing this high-value service sector

• It’s Free

•An organization’s pledge details are confidential

• Metrics are reported in aggregate

• Companies can adjust a pledge at any time to accommodate new goals

• There’s even a pledge for companies just getting started!

What are the benefits?

• National and regional networking events, webinars, newsletters all

focused on sharing best practices lead by peers, thought leaders and

industry experts

• A true growing community of inspiring and dedicated practitioners 12

THE PLEDGEYes! Our Company agrees to be a pro bono champion and will:

– Pledge to create or expand a skills-based or pro bono program to provide our employees with opportunities to give and develop their talents to serve the social sector .

– Estimate & report against a goal* -- a projection that your company aspires to in 2013-- in support of mobilizing billions of dollars in skills-based volunteering resources.

– Provide a short description of your company’s pledge and the services and sectors you hope to support.

– Share your logo for use on the A Billion + Change website and in national marketing and communications efforts.

* Companies that are just getting started can also pledge to the campaign

without estimating and then adjust their pledge as programs are established.

13

Value Propositions:

Outcomes:

• More than 500 programs and billions of dollars of service pledges

• Business community leading and supporting local communities

• A marketplace for skilled volunteering commitment, recognition, and learning

Value to pledge companies:

• We’ll help you share your skills-based volunteerism story with your stakeholders and the media

• You’ll learn from top decision makers in policy and industry connecting your local actions at a national scale.

• Our special events will allow partners to network with peers, decision-makers and thought leaders around the country as they implement their pledge goals.

• Pledge partners can also access the experience of industry leaders through vetted resources, including case studies, expert connections and survey data to develop, launch and inspire their programs.

14

Why Would SBV Not Be Helpful?

• Deliverable was disappointing

• Volunteers were not knowledgeable about the agency or

sector needs

• Too much of the organization’s staff time was needed for the

project

• About 25% felt that the project took too long to finish

• Another 25% felt that the volunteer did not have the right

skills

• 23% said they underestimated the scope of work that was

required
