INS TRUCTIONS

• M ix together the butter, the sugar and the 4 egg yolks. S tir it hard, Private! The mixture is thick as hell.

• A dd the cognac (remember your S ergeant will be watching you, no matter the place) and the chocolate. Have I told you to stop mixing? Then keep moving on!

• A dd the f lour, the milk and the baking powder. I know I said nothing about baking powder, so what? Y ou’re a M arine: Y ou adapt. Y ou improvise. Y ou overcome.

B EWA RE

• Now listen up: after you have added the egg whites, you’d better be cautious. S tir the mixture carefully, slowly, because we don’t want it to lose its sponginess. Do it wrong, and you’ll get a brick instead of a dessert.

• If your S ergeant gets notice, (and he will, because he’s like God A lmighty) be ready for a great amount of pain.
