Doing Business with CSIRO
• CSIRO can work directly with commercial companies on a fee for service or co- investment basis,
• Can partner in programs such as the Capability and Technology Demonstrator, TCF Strategic Capability Program and through the DMTC and
• Can transfer IP through licensing arrangements

Advanced Textile Materials Laboratory•Quantitative assessment of sustainability including carbon, water quality, contamination and energy management in textile/garment designs.
•Develop testing and education capabilities focused on ‘sustainability’ of Textiles.
•Durability and performance of products using alternative resources to develop new sustainable products.
•Enhancing sustainability and reducing carbon emissions

3D Body Scanner
This fully computerised 3D Body Scanner using white light technology, scans the body in seconds producing a true to scale 3D body model and has potential uses in the following areas: - virtual fashion creation on 3D body scans for real time viewing- for health and fitness management - body shape analysis- garment sizing surveys- 3D product development for apparel and equipment - made to measure clothing

Thermal Skin Manikin
RMIT’s Sweating Thermal Manikin (or “Newton”) as he is affectionately known, is used under controlled conditions to collect data, whilst simulating human body skin responses to the wearing of textile apparel. Such data may be incorporated in the design of textile fabrics for the manufacture of e.g. uniforms, sports wear, or specialised clothing for specific conditions and environments. Such data may contribute to the purposed manufacture of apparel which is both extremely functional and comfortable to wear.

Sweating Guarded Hotplate
The M259B Sweating Guarded Hotplate simulates the heat and moisture transport processes of textiles which occur next to the surface of the human skin. The M259B conforms to the ISO 11092:1993 testing standard for the measurement of thermal resistance and water vapour under steady state conditions.

Ci4000 Xenon Weather Ometer
The Ci4000 Weather-Ometer®, with its’ advanced digital control system, is an easy to use laboratory weathering instrument. This equipment simulates exposure to a variety of natural weathering elements such as humidity, dew, light and temperature for diagnostic and quality control purposes.

Fabric Drape Tester
This instrument provides a means of determining the extent to which a fabric will deform when it is allowed to hang under its own weight. The results can be used to compare batch to batch draping properties or compare alternative fabrics.

Instron Tensile Strength Tester
The Instron Tensile Strength Tester is used to measure the tensile strength, resistance to tearing/bursting of geo textiles and other environmental textiles.

Perkin Elmer Laser Spectrum 400 FTIR
The prime function of the Perkin Elmer Laser Spectrum 400 FTIR is the molecular analysis and identification of chemical compounds, material contaminants and reaction monitoring.

Perkin Elmer Raman Station 400
The prime function of the Perkin Elmer Raman Station 400 computerised analyser is for the facilitation of quantitative and qualitative analysis of impurities found in textiles and polymers.

Perkin Elmer Gas Analyser
The Perkin Elmer Gas Analyser measures organic carbon as well as the nitrogen and sulphur content of textiles.

Atlas Moisture Measurement Tester
The Atlas Moisture Measurement Tester is used to measure the dynamic liquid transport properties of knitted and woven fabrics.

SDL Atlas Air Permeability Tester
The SDL Atlas air permeability tester is used to determine the resistance of a fabric to the passage of air through it. Constructional factors and finishing techniques can have an appreciable effect on air permeability by causing a change in length of air flow paths through a fabric.

MAY 2010 – ATTIC PRESS RELEASE
• Bruck Textiles, CSIRO, RMIT University and the Defence Materials Technology Centre have joined forces to establish the Australian Textile Technology and Innovation Centre (ATTIC).
• ATTIC is a centre of excellence in textiles research, development and innovation, utilising the collective facilities, capabilities and expertise of the above founding members.
Vision for ATTIC
• To create a centre of excellence in textile innovation, research and development.
• Capitalise on collective strengths of Australia’s textiles research facilities & industry expertise.
• To be available to the broader industry, within Australia, as well as the Asia Pacific region.
ATTIC METHOD• Independent Chairman – Peter Kreitals.• Forum for engagement to explore what is
possible. • A facilitator to broker discussion and
arrangements.• MOU between members.• IP resides in the projects, not with ATTIC.• Use of Workshops to develop research projects.• Work together to access Government research
funding.
