THIS SUNDAY’S GOSPEL READING Some Sadducees, those who deny that there is a resurrection, came forward and put this question to Jesus, saying, “Teacher, Moses wrote for us, If someone’s brother dies leaving a wife but no child, his brother must take the wife and raise up descendants for his brother. Now there were seven brothers; the first married a woman but died childless. Then the second and the third married her, and likewise all the seven died childless. Finally the woman also died. Now at the resurrection whose wife will that woman be? For all seven had been married to her.” Jesus said to them, “The children of this age marry and remarry; but those who are deemed worthy to attain to the coming age and to the resurrection of the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage. They can no longer die, for they are like angels; and they are the children of God because they are the ones who will rise. That the dead will rise even Moses made known in the passage about the bush, when he called ‘Lord’ the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob; and he is not God of the dead, but of the living, for to him all are alive.” Some of the scribes said in reply, “Teacher, you have answered well.” And they no longer dared to ask him anything. Luke 20: 27-40

FROM FR JOE

End of the Jubilee of Mercy

The Jubilee of Mercy announced by Pope Francis is drawing to a close this Sunday, on the solemnity of Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. It was a time to encounter the mercy of God the Father through Jesus, and then to be merciful like the Father. We also may have thought about the works of mercy. At our school these were symbolised in the hands of mercy. These decorated the hall entrance to the church. Archbishop Philip Wilson invites people to participate in the Year of Mercy final Liturgy on Thursday 17th November before the closing of the Mercy Door at St Francis Xavier Cathedral on Sunday 20th November. This liturgy will take place at 5.45pm, commencing in St Mary MacKillop Plaza adjacent to the Cathedral. He writes, “The Year of Mercy has been a great gift to the Church and I thank all of those who have participated so deeply. I pray that the fruits of the Year of Mercy will not be forgotten but will remain in our hearts and be evident in our actions.” This Sunday is also the third Sunday of the month: the parish/school family Mass, and morning tea after the 10 am Mass. We hope to see you there. God bless you all, Fr Joseph Lee SDB, PP

SALESIAN MISSIONS The work of the Australian Salesian Missions is carried out in more than 130 countries and our Parish has been a strong supporter of the missionary work for more than 20 years. In keeping with that tradition, a number of fundraising efforts will be held in November and December 2016 at Brooklyn Park and Richmond. From 12 November to 11 December 2016, we will be selling raffle tickets after the weekend Masses at Brooklyn Park and Richmond. Great prizes to be won and we look forward to your support.

On Sunday, 20 November 2016, there will be a cake stall and a selection of crafts at Brooklyn Park after the 8.30am

and 10am Masses. Our fundraising efforts will close on Sunday 11th December 2016 with a light lunch of “Pasta or

Fried Rice in a Box”, dessert and tea/coffee in the St Mary Mazzarello Complex after the 10am Mass at St John

Bosco Church. The ticket costs are $8.00 per person or $15.00 per couple and no charge for children aged up to 5

years of age. Tickets for lunch are available from Yollie Bartsch, Angelica Fernandez and the Brooklyn Park Parish

Centre (Thursdays only).

Dear Parents, Friends, Staff and students of St John Bosco School, This is a busy time of year but a time to honour and celebrate many achievements as we come to a finishing time. Over recent weeks we have witnessed the blessing and opening of our new buildings. This has been a three year dream to create a wonderful learning space for our students and a wonderful gathering place for our community. There is much to admire and much to give thanks for. Our Opening gave us this chance and we were delighted with the day. In particular I acknowledge the presence of the Salesian Sisters, Sr Edna Mary MacDonald, Sr Delma Lamb and Sr Carmel Krohn. The Sisters travelled from Melbourne to join us, remembering their own time at the school and wanting to be with us to give thanks for the continuing Salesian ministry in our school. Our buildings have been blessed and reminds us of God’s presence in one another and in our community and in these special places. Last week was Mission Day, a chance to have some fun but at the same time to give to others, unknown in our world, by our actions. This was a proud day for us as we saw our students plan and organise their many stalls and giving generously to help others. There was a great spirit of joy in our yard that day. On Monday night we saw our instrumental students present their learning to their families. What a wonderful night. We saw the skill of our students developing with much confidence as each student stood in front of us to present their item. These efforts were appreciated by our audience. We give thanks for the tutors and parental support. At the moment teachers are working on Reports. Mia and I have the privilege of reading all of the Reports. Each Report tells a story of growth and achievement. That is why this time of year is such a positive one where we can see a year's investment in learning and where each child has come to in their achievements. There are many occasions where our staff share stories of successes and milestones of their students. This brings much joy to all of us, especially to the student. I hope you can see stories of growth and achievement for our school community and for your child. Thank you for your part in these successes. Paul [email protected]
